    Flatulence

Wow - -this is a really old post I found! But it seems to be a common problem with lap band patients. I belch and fart from dusk to dawn. I am 5 months post op and it isn't getting any better. It actually got REALLY bad after my 2nd fill. Anybody found anything to help stop these pesky problems? I am not consuming milk - -only soy and greek yogurt so it shouldn't be lactose intolerance. The belching and passing of gas is OUT OF CONTROL!!! (LOL)

    Roof of mouth pain

it is from the tube that they put in your mouth during surgery. My pain lasted about 2-3 days. I have read the pain is normal.

    Two weeks after surgery

Hi - -today is my 2 weeks also!! I feel pretty good now, I went back to work this week, had pretty decent energy and then....not so much.. Oh well, the weekend is here, I am adjusted to the diet. My 1st appt with my surgeon isn't until week 6!!!! He really wants us to go through bandster hell!! I have lost 12 pounds in the past 2 weeks, hope i can keep some of this up for a few more weeks!!! How are you doing? Lauryn.

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hi, I LOVE bicycling and I owe it to bicycling that I got the LAP-BAND®. My husband and I bought hybrid bicycles last spring. I struggled to keep with him because I had to haul my extra 80 (hmmm--125) pounds. In spite of that, I saw the amount of calories I burned, and I saw the tone in my legs starting to take place. Since then, hubby has bought a Trek, and is doing 60 - 100 mile rides, and i have the LAP-BAND®!! I knew I could never do any of these rides (too many hills, and too long) at my current weight. I was banded 2/12/10, now my goal is to do a ride with him this June - - I am already 25 pounds lighter than I was last year, so I can't wait for spring and riding again - -I hope to only enter the gym on weekends when it rains:lol:.

    feel like a failure

In my pre-op talk with my surgeon, he said that there would most likely come a time that I would struggle and become too embarrassed / ashamed to come to the office for my regular appointment--but no matter how bad I was doing there were always people doing so much worse!!! We started this journey because we needed help, I don't think that will ever go away....go see your surgeon.

    Protein - help skin adjust?

MANY years ago I lost approx 86 pounds without any exercise. I was told to be sure to consume soy in my diet because the soy helps with the skin sagging. I did not have any excess skin. Now I am making sure that I use light vanilla soy milk in any Protein shakes or SF/FF puddings that I make. I have 100+ pounds to loose this time and hope the soy will help with any possible sagging skin. Lauryn
  9. In addition to my lap band, I had a hernia repair and liver biopsy done. I am 3 days post op and my worst pain is in the area of the incision done on my right side where the liver biopsy would have been done. It looks like the incision on the right side went inbetween some ribs....that might explain the pain. Amazingly, the least amount of pain (so far) is in the large incision where the port is. Wondering if this is normal and if any of you have the same experience. Lauryn
  10. Great question--I was wondering the same thing. I am walking and taking lots of Gas X - -this is helping some, but not with the gas under the rib cage, shoulder, etc.

    Banded Yesterday

HI Belle, I was banded yesterday the 12th. I also had the hernia repair, OUCH!! I have all of the same pains and issues as you do, and get a lot of relief from my pain meds. I hope to get outside to walk a little today, because the gas is setting in!! I am also unable to pee - i feel like I could pop, but just a tiny little drip!! We will get through this!! Lauryn
  12. Lauryn,

Hey there, sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. Just wanted to tell you that I'm surprised at your description of your doctor and surgery procedures. I totally want to support you in making a great decision. From what I can gather from my experience and others that I've read on this site, # 1 most important thing is to feel comfortable with the Doctor and Staff. # 2 Do your research find out what is normal from others who have had this operation. ie. specific guidelines pre and post surgery.. #3 Remember this guy is going into your gut. AND your paying him to do it..

How does the staff treat you? Have any of them had the operation?

Btw Great Job on taking initiative and Good Luck

    Jade

  13. Hi Jade - I am so glad to have know someone going through this at the same time.

My preop diet consists of this: loose 5 pounds! I met with the surgeon on 1/18 and that is what his instructions were. He is pretty tough and mean too (a no excuses kind of guy) - so I am surprized that he didn't order something like what you are doing. The day before surgery I have to weigh in to make sure I have lost the 5 pounds and also start a clear liquid diet that day.

I have gradually decreased my calories, watching protein and fat grams as he instructed. I started exercising (again) this week and cutting snacks. Also chewing MANY times!! Trying to make good habits that will stick after the surgery.

I gave up the full caffeine coffee last month and the sodas 2 weeks ago. I am VERY ready to get this started!!

Take care - keep in touch, Lauryn
