Stuff down pain and lonliness and self abuse for not being "perfect". I had my first appt with therapist this morning. Will see her again next week and ongoing as I continue this life-changing journey. Have "named" my band - My Hero. Life will be easier with My Hero walking thru with me.

Webster defines "diet" as a chosen plan of eating. We need to reframe this four letter word. We chose health and success with the help of the lapband.

Jax - your comments "struck a cord" with me. My step-father was a prisoner of war and had major food issues, understandably. However, growing up I experienced severe punishment relative to food. It never dawned on me that these childhood situations might still be affecting my attitude toward food. These boards are very enlightening.

Day was hardest for me from late afternoon to bed time. Getting easier every day.

Had my pre-op testing today. Very nice nurse explained day of surgery routine and toured the surgical center facilities. Had blood drawn, urine specimen, & EKG. Also was given lots more paperwork to read in preparation for this drastic change. My focus now is more on the preparations and changes, than on the reward. Will see therapist tomorrow. This is day 4 of pre-op diet and it is getting easier. Joyce

My son-in-law had gastric bypass and has lost 170 lbs. Not yet at his goal and he has been shopping @ thrift stores until he reaches his size. Has found has real bargains.

Sincere congratulations to all 3 of you. Have fun shopping and wearing all those new clothes - plus enjoy the empty closets and cleaning out all those items that no longer fit. :rolleyes2:

Hi Mom, I'm not yet banded, but I love the Boca Burgers. Soy protein is something I enjoy. I will start using tofu again after surgery. Making shakes with fruit juice, 1/3 cube of tofu and ice cubes. yyumm and very filling

I love to travel, so I can explain, boarding passes can only be printed 24 hours prior to flight. I'll be banded 2-22-2010 and wrote a previous message expressing that I hope to be invited to join you ladies for your trip next year. Looks like such a caring, supportive group of ladies/banders. Jax - you GO GIRL. My daughter has verbally attacked me about my decision. I will meet with a therapist before, during and after to receive tools in dealing with these issues. I do NOT intend to share this decision with friends. Felt I should tell family. Fortunately, my husband is very supportive. This is the tool I feel I need.

My date is the 22nd - we can do this together. Joyce

Such an interesting thread with diverse responses and experiences. I remember mentioning to a dear friend (always very slender) that, due to illness "you are losing so much weight". She was angry - responding that others had also mentioned "how thin she was becoming". Her opinion was that she would never say, "I can't believe how fat your getting". What makes people think they can comment on my losing weight. A good point - and I took notice. She was informational in her comment, not rude.

Just what I want to read. No pain - no hunger. Nirvana.

Janelle - I began pre-op yesterday. Enjoy the sun in Mexico and the successful banding experience. We'll travel this journey together and with the others in Feb.

I'm jealous of Kathy & Mariposa. So eager to be starting the new life and having surgery behind me. Go team Feb. 2010 bandsters.
