    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Tweety - I try to stay on liquids for 24 hrs. after an episode. The band is aggravated. Then proceed with caution - very small bites and chew thoroughly. We want this to work - use our tools carefully.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Tweety - PB is productive burp and slime occurs when the food refuses to go down and body secrets "slime" to help. When a bander vomits, the food is covered in this slime - I find it helps the food to move out. Forgot to congratulate the lady who is pregnant. Best wishes. Northern Mist - welcome to the club. It is a learning experience and part of the journey. My third fill did the job for me - I feel I'm at sweet spot too. I asked for conservative fills on #2 and #3. Honestly reviewing your food with your doctor will help guide him/her. Congrats on your progress.

Laura, Arlene, Cheri, Janet - thanks for your input. So interesting what success tips have worked for each of you. I'll use all help available. Julie - you have a busy day. Take care of yourself. Relaxing today - a graduation party yesterday and some obedience training for my dog.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Welcome to the club. I experienced a bad week with 4 episodes including vomiting. However, trying new foods was the cause - and food that was too dry. This is a trial and error journey. And for each of us it is different. I've lost 25 lbs. and feel marvelous. However with 35 more, I've decided to recommit to the band rules. I'm journaling food to be sure that protein, calories and carbs are in line. Great to know that vomiting won't kill us - just see as a learning tool.
  6. Wow and congratulations. And thank you so much for taking the time to share. Learning to change our lives with the band is very challenging. So we need to hear all the benefits. I'm down 25 lbs. now and feeling marvelous. Almost 4 months banded and the journey is becoming more familiar. Determined to go all the way to goal and NOT settle for less. Joyce

Janet - I'm a breakfast person, and I appreciate your input. My totals for the day: Calories: 754 Carbs: 42 Protein: 100 I'll start counting fats too like Peaches if the scale doesn't move. I refuse to only lose 1/2 of my total goal. I intend to see that goal # on the scale before the end of 2010. Jessica - I like the idea of weighing only once a week. Laura K - glad to hear the date was enjoyable. I'm very surprise how little ppl care about how much I take home. And, yes, I believe you should have taken what you didn't eat, even on a date. Shows you know the value of money. I also have calories left for a bedtime snack.

Lori - thank you for the info and portion size and NO WHITE starches. With these extra hints, I feel confident of reaching goal. 37 lbs. left to lose. That would put me at a weight I haven't seen in 30 years. Hard to imagine.

Cheri - you inspire me to get to know myself better. Your description of your strengths and weakness (journaling, calender issues) and the solutions - marrying or hiring others to handle for you. Excellent. Janet - thank you for your response to amounts of calories and protein. The journal I'm using was produced by Allegren and suggests 75 grams of protein per day. The nutritionist for my surgeon suggested more - up to 120 grams. I'll observe what works for me as I journal. The health food store owner (who works with lapband and bypass patients) felt my carbs were too high and that might be my stall issue. He suggested water, rather than milk in my morning shake. I'm trying 1 c skim milk & water. Breakfast shake: Prot: 41 Carbs - 26 Cal - 342 (I add I ta of peanut butter) Scale was 200 today - come on 199. Haven't seen that number in about 10 years.

LauraK - good luck with lunch date tomorrow. Congrats on all hard work and sore butt muscles. Peaches (Candice) I loved the quote too. Keep them coming. Janet - I'm still trying to decide if I'm too tight. Good restriction. After only 4 months, it is difficult to know what is the right feeling. I AM able to exercise - just have to take it easy on knees. I'll post my daily totals to see how they measure up. What is your goal for grams of protein, carbs and calories?
  11. Windus - hope all goes well for you. Thanks for posting.

Graduation parties are calling to all of us. For us its a Grandson who plans to go to KU next year. Tomorrow afternoon. Well, ladies, time for me to recommit too. Judy, I'm with you. Have held my loss in a stall @ 23 lbs. since March 25th (approx.). Time to shake things up. Visited with a fellow bander at lunch, then stopped by the health food store to review my eating. This is my pledge to myself: 1. Start journaling food again broken down protein, carbs, calories. 2. Drink more water & record amounts 3. Severely reduce daily mashed potatoes for lunch - to once on weekends. 4. Substitute water for 1/2 of skim milk in shakes for breakfast to cut carbs. 5. Increase exercise & record. I'm so close to onderland - now @ 201. Want to see those numbers change and loss continue toward goal. Judy & all my friends - I'm with you. Jessica - you have inspired by not allowing injury to stall your losses. This group rocks. Joyce

Lori - sorry you had such a rough day. Re: vitamins - Laura would be best to answer that question. Re: mortgage company - we own 9 commercial buildings, our home and have other assets (our businesses). Had a small balance on 1 bldg. and the bank was making us jump thru hoops. So, we just paid it off too and told them to go fly a kite. We are a couple of old Jewish people who have worked our hearts out for a lifetime with perfect credit - but, alas - they kept asking. Try to be patient and just forge ahead. Judy - way to go - no snacks. You inspire me, girl. Dinner @ Houlihans - they have small plate salmon. Smaller portions and smaller prices. Still brought home 1/2 of 4 oz. portion. Busy day in KC. Having lunch tomorrow with 31 yr old man who was banded on same day with me. Always enjoy his company.

Janet - I used a trainer twice a week for two years. He was highly educated and certified in everything. An ex-Marine too - and young. He was a great friend (spending that much time together) and a good person. HOWEVER, he also sometimes pushed too hard and knew everything. He had me doing one legged squats which inflamed my left knee horribly. A year later I had a knee replacement - not caused by the exercise, but osteoarthritis and age. Sometimes he just would not ease up. Overall, it was wonderful working with him. Glad you let your guy have it. grrrr... Busy day for me - a marvelous massage, errands and spent time with 17 yr. old grandson & his friend. Then created an advertisement for granddaughter who is a hair dresser to promote her business. Now will meet DH for dinner - fish, of course. Dreary, rainy day in KC - but expecting 87 degrees on the weekend. Joyce

Arlene - way to go -- 3 more lbs. You are really doing well. Congratulations, gf. Peaches - love reading the OA messages. I was also in that group in the 80's and enjoyed their direction and inspiration. Lori - sounds like the movers have things under control. And you are keeping up with the papers from the mortgage companies. Julie - I lost my post today too. So frustrating. It just would not send/post. grrrrr.......

Janet - thank you for the compliment. We all need them. Peaches - re: personality traits - very quick wit and bright, fast mind. A motivator and hard working, goal directed. And tired, now that I'm older. It is a great challenge to us all to take a look at our strengths. Not bragging, just acknowledging what God gave us. Karen - way to go on the planting. Will enjoy all summer. sleep well, ladies. Sweet dreams.

Dang, Julie. Hope the doctor can help you thru this. Lori - sorry for the rough day with Gd/ma. Bet sadness over your leaving is at the core, as you suspected. You have been so good to her and she will miss you dearly. Jessica - sports injuries are a part of exercise, sadly. Hope your doctors office can offer some suggestions - perhaps water aerobics? Had to work about 3 hours today cleaning up messes from our office manager leaving. Thank heavens I can do it at home in my PJ's. Still don't like it. Spoiled, I know. But at 67 I should be retired.

Jessica - sorry about the problem with aleve. The ladies here pointed me to adult liquid tylenol for pain relief. The info on one of the lap band info boards advises NO NSAIDS. They mention ulcers can occur with use. They pills must not pass easily thru the stoma. I agree with Karen, your accomplishments are to be congratulated. You have evolved into a powerful young woman. Way to go, GF.

Way to go Peaches. Karen - Memorial Day at the lake sounds wonderful. Old fashioned, good, clean fun. Bought tickets for movie "Sex and the City" for the 28th. For DD & her GF to join me. Will go to Forks and Screen theater so we can enjoy meals and drinks with in seat service. Love it. Went for coffee with another bander & she shared her Mediterranean (sp?) cruise memories. Two weeks and wonderful trip. Lost 3 lbs. while gone.

Lori - I admire your offer to volunteer & help out and your desire to meet your commitment - however, the # of days was not specified AND your circumstance did not include an impending move when you agreed. Would they be willing to find someone else for two of the 4 days to honor your change of situation? Thanks to everyone for helping me join you on FB. Cheri - thank you for sharing Breakfast amounts that are "normal" for you. I was considering an unfill, but now believe I'm in the sweet spot. It's difficult for us "newbies" to embrace the new "normal". Karen - loved your observation about loving ourselves and finding serenity in our lives. My yoga journey began about 10 years ago and has provided the tools for me to embrace a new life. Time for a snack.

    backing out

Renee - sending support for your decision and best wishes for your success. As some of the others have mentioned, for ME, it was not possible to lose and maintain loss. The band will NOT allow overeating. And, once in place, my experience is - there is NO giving up. The band forces me to behave and overrides emotional eating.

Jodi - my last name is Cramer, and would love to join you and other ladies on FB. Your pix look gorgeous of new place. So great that you will be moving so quickly.

Morning ladies - today I'll have a shake for breakfast & see how the day goes. Hopefully no Pbing or vomiting. Going to dinner (fancy) tonight with friends to celebrate 42 or 43 years. She was a TWA flight attendant & still models her original 1960's uniforms - perfect, body. Needless to say, she does not know about the lap band. Pray I don't vomit, will make very careful choices. Would love to join you all on FB but don't know your last names. Help.
