Straws? Can anyone shed some light for me?
pnw218 replied to DisneyAddict's topic in Food and Nutrition
It all made more sense to me - quantity wise - when I looked around online to see, in inches, how big the new stomach is. I believe it was about 3-4 inches long and as big around as your finger. If that is correct, no wonder we are stuffed after just a few bites! We do Friday lunch for our employees and it will take me all afternoon to eat my little plate of Mexican goodies! It was hard to take the little sips at first. Now I can take a decent drink and I have used a straw a couple of times. My favorite Water bottle has a built in straw so I am anxious to get back to using it. -
Peach Tea, which wasn't my favorite flavor before surgery, is now one of my best friends. I have used both the Crystal Lite and "regular" decaf tea. Drinking it warm has been a comfort food.

Welcome and congrats on your surgery! Hopefully it is just a matter of your body adjusting to the reduction of meds and the new sleeve. Not real familiar with high BP tho so can't comment specifically. Good Luck! Sounds like you are off to a great start!

funny stuff! BooM Princess and Full of Poop! I easily go 2-3 or even 4 days without going but everything seems normal when it does exit. Not too hard, not to soft, it is just right! Sounds like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears! If I add benefiber then it all moves too quickly. I think someone told me at the beginning of this that you are eating less so would go less?? If I get uncomfortable, I will do something about it. But so far so good : )

The voice of reason! And your vision is 20/20. Good luck with your research!! :biggrin0: If you would like to hear about my personal experience, I would be happy to share it privately. And no, I am not on their payroll and I don't accept referral fees from the coordinator I used. -
Congrats! Slow and steady - that has been my routine so far. Not huge exciting numbers but progressive and I am happy with that. The time certainly does go fast! Glad you are feeling so well : )

I am sorry to hear you don't feel well : ( I had a couple of days feeling light headed but never vomited, so I am not much help. Once I added some yogurt, potato Soup and Protein it went away. Checking with in with your nurse or dr just to be cautious is probably a good idea.

I got into probably my smallest pair of 12's this am, even tho the scale didn't change! I have some nice slacks 14's - hardly worn and really comfy material. And a pair or two of jeans. If you want them, pm with your address and I will stick them in the mail :biggrin0:

I feel like a broken record sometimes talking about it - LOL However I think it is good for people to know that they do have choices. Some people may have certain medical issues so it is important for them to stick with what their dr says 100% - but others may have options.
Good Luck! Happy to answer any questions you might have : )

I also take wellbutrin 300mg. I think I skipped the first two days after surgery and then resumed taking it on day three. Dr told me to just space my meds out like 15 minutes apart or so - I take a few others as well. My wellbutrin is probably my largest tablet. It was a little scary to take at first but after a couple of times, it was fine. I did make sure to have something in my stomach tho before I took my meds. Made that mistake with my back meds and I felt yucky the entire day.

We disagree and that is ok. There is no law that says we have to agree on everything. If and when I am provided proof that convinces me that one doctor is better than another, I might change my mind. For now, I am not going to cry wolf just because someone posted something on a chat board. I find it very hard to believe that any doctor has a perfect record. -
Got into a little trouble today..
pnw218 replied to girldep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on soft foods during the first week. Doctors all have their own opinons which is why we are often told to get a second opinion or even a third I followed the Cornell University guidelines for the most part and it worked well for me. http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf -

I agree with you, however there is no way of knowing if the good reports are true either. Keeping this site to advice regarding what to pack, what to eat, etc. before and after surgery would be great - altho even that doesn't work for everyone. It is helpful to have a variety of info to read and then decide what works best for you. There is just no way to know who is telling the truth and who isn't when it comes to doctors, clinics, complications and successes. Unlike many people here, I have never said anything negative about any doctor or clinic. I have only said that my experience was good and I saw nothing to be afraid of. -
What they said : ) The Atkins diet especially seems to cause gall stones (or sludge) to form. The pancreas doesn't like to be messed with at all. I had an ERCP last August to fix the bile duct muscle into the liver; could have been a day procedure except pancreatitis can occur several hours later. I lived an hour away from the hospital so had to stay over night. From what I have heard, there are many things that can set it off.

Sleeve set for Apr 19th, anyone else?
pnw218 replied to lil.ole.me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stacey, if you can get past the first 3 or 4 days, you will probably feel better. Getting off the sugar is hard. I used to get terrible headaches when I lo-carbed it. My goal was 20 or less carbs; now I am just staying under 40. -
crazy with all of the earthquakes lately!! And I thought having sun, rain and hail in the 1.5 hrs during my daughter's baseball game was crazy today! Hope you are feeling well : )

Congrats!! The surgery is a wonderful tool ~ you will love it! OK. There will be a few days that you might not 100% love it, but most of the time you will : ) That date will be here quickly!!

I have tried not to stress about the amount I am losing. Truthly, I am thrilled to be down 28 pounds. I certainly couldn't do it on my own. Since the second week, I have only been losing an average of .5 a day. Some days the scale moves, sometimes it doesn't. I wish I could weigh only once a week but haven't been able to avoid the scale yet. I am going to go thru old clothes this weekend. I need pants! LOL Congrats Lee! Glad your scale is behaving : )

Ditto to everything mentioned so far. The first two days were lousy, by day three I was better and it just gets easier every day. I never thought I would be able to take a decent drink again and now I have to remind myself not to over do it! I still burp if I eat too much or too quickly : )

I am SO about to lose all of my hair...= [
pnw218 replied to TiffanyIsMajor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL I stock up whenever I can! Never even entered my mind tho until a cruise that stopped in Costa Rica. Two nurses that we hung out with took us to a pharmacy with them. They had an entire shopping list! Figured if they could do it, so could we! -

Tiffany ~ I wonder if your thyroid med is available in Mexico? If you have an old rx bottle, you might bring it and check. I have done that before in Mexico, the Caribbean and in Europe. There are also meds you can buy without a prescription. Don't know if your's would be one or not. Your coordinator may be able to ask the dr ahead of time as well. Another touchy subject but I have never had any issues. -

Beginning to eat solids (suggestions?)
pnw218 replied to pastorgregumc's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I ate most of the same things you mentioned, but I had to take it very slowly, like Oregondaisy said. Sometimes it took me over an hour to eat 2 oz. I never did vomit but my tummy has gurgled like crazy everytime I try something new. It does sound like you had liquid too close to your meal. There are several guidelines out there but try to stop drinking 30 minutes before and and 30 minutes after to see if that works better for you. Depending on what I am eating, I will have very small sips with my food. Sometimes ya just need it to get the food down -
