Help!!!!!! Has anyone gained weight at the mushie stage????
vgerbus replied to gigim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The time between your surgery and your first fill is for your body to heal. Any weight that you gain is very minimal compared to what you would be gaining if you were not banded. Now is not the time to worry about gaining or losing. I had the similar thing happen after my surgery. I am now two years out and have lost 85#. Take a deep breath and give yourself a break. You will be losing in no time. -
Anyone know a $200 or less fill doctor in DFW area
vgerbus replied to flowers's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Flowers, I did use Dr. Maese for a while but the drive to Dallas was three hours each way as I lived in Shreveport, LA. Someone on this site gave me the name of Dr. Kathleen Querry. She does fills in Marshall, TX which would be quite a ways for you but she also does fills in Paris, TX. You might check but I think Pais is closer than Tyler. Her fills are $130.00 w/o floro. If there is no fill the visit is only $30.00. I only have her Marshall phone #903-938-7200. -
I think this might be the link you are looking for. Mexican_Bandsters : Mexican Bandsters I don't go to that site much anymore. I have found that there are a few old timers that seem to get under each others skins and there is a lot of bickering back and forth between them. I find most of the questions I have I can usually find the answer here and if not I usually will post a question here.

Spicy food will not hurt your band. I love spicy! It will occasionally give me heartburn however.

Congratulations!! on your upcoming surgery. You are exactly one month after my surgery. I had a TT, MR, BL, BA, & lipo done at the same time and was sent home the day of surgery. My surgery was only 4 hours but you should do fine going home the day of surgery. I didn't have the pain pump but had some good liquid pain meds. I was off all pain meds by the third day after surgery but I am taking Motrin right now because of the 20 lb watermelons sitting on my chest. I would suggest a recliner to sleep in for the first few days. I didn't have the option of using a recliner beause my friend who is helping me recover doesn't have one but I really would have loved to have hd one. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. The last few weeks should just fly by. Wishing you no pain!

Both my band doctor and my fill doctor are ok with me taking asprin. The only thng that will get rid of my headaches are Excedrin. In fact my fill doctor said she would rather me take the excedrin instead of Motrin because she has seem more patients come in with problems from the Motrin than the Excedrin. Each doctor is different. Right now I am having a hard time because I just had surgery and I am having to go asprin free for another week because of the blood thinning that asprin causes.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I had a similar situation happen and things can work out if that is what you want. My initial step was a divorce and 6 months later and lots of soul searching and counseling together and apart we remarried and have been together since. Married in 91, divorced in 96, and remarried in 97. That is not to say that it has been a cake walk but it is so much better. There is more to my story but I won't bore everyone with the details but you can email me privately if you want to talk.

It's great that someone started this thread. I am scheduled for a tummy tuck, breast lift w/augmentation and lipo on June 3. I am getting extremely excited and also a little anxious but more excited than anything.

Disapproving family...help!
vgerbus replied to Aphrodite1984's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be fine having surgery in Mexico. I did it almost two years ago in Monterrey, MX and would certainly go back again if I needed. The first time I did take a friend with me because she could speak Spanish and was my interpreter. I don't even think I needed her until we went out shopping! Most of the nurses didn't speak English, but the patient coordinator should give you a sheet with some common phrases to help you communicate with the nurses. The second time I went back down was for my first fill, by myself, and I went out shopping by myself. Never had a problem, didn't carry a lot of cash, I did take my purse with me, still never had a problem. There are places in Mexico I would never think of going to because of high crimes and such but there are also places in the US that I would never think of going to for the exact same reasons. Don't let anyone here scare you away from having surgery in Mexico and don't let your family scare you away either. Show them the research you have done. Make sure you have an aftercare doctor lined up BEFORE you go to Mexico as many doctors will not give you "fills" or aftercare if you are not their patient, regardless if you went to Mexico or just a different doctor in the US. Only you know if the doctor in Mexico is really who YOU want. -
I live in Louisiana but I am having my surgery done in Omaha, NE, because my BFF is going to take care of me for 3 weeks after surgery. I figured I would get more sympathy from her instead of my DH. I am having a TT, BL, BA, and Lipo for $11,350.00 including Anastasia. The more procedures you have done the better the price.

Have you had your first fill yet? The time between your surgery and first fill is time for recovery. Any weight loss between that time is purley a bonus. Once you start receiving your fills you weight will start to go down again. Good luck!

Cheryl, Have not had the surgery yet (June 3, 2008) but I did look on a website for patients banded in Mexico. (I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico) I did find one doctor on their site, Dr. Stephen Malley,5820 Lamar Suite 200, Mission, KS 66204 (913)492-2530 $250/initial consultation $100/fills thereafter. I don't know how current this information is but you should give him a call. There were also 2 doctors listed in Topeka, KS. Not sure how closer/further this is than Omaha. I only had one reply from anyone in Omaha. I still need to call the number I was given to see if they would consider doing an unfill if necessary. If you want the names of the doctors in Topeak let me know and I will forward on the names and numbers.

Hello to everyone in Omaha, I was born and raised just across the river in Council Bluffs and I will be having plastic surgery in Omaha in June. I was banded in September 06 and I am down 85 lbs. I am trying to get everything lined up and I am needing to find a fill doctor in Omaha that could give me an unfill should it become necessary after my surgery. I was banded in Mexico and know that a lot of doctors won't touch Mexican patients, and my fill doctor where I am living now (Louisiana) doesn't think I will need an unfill but I need have a doctor's name just in case. Any names or numbers would be greatly appreciated. This was also posted in the General Lapband Surgery site but it has some how disappeared and is also posted in Lapband Fills site because I know from my own experience that not everyone goes into all the different sites on Lab-Band Talk.

Wheetsin, I have been in almost the exact scenario but with a 4 year old in the car as well. Hire a good lawyer, a good lawyer is worth every penny you pay him and can handle all the paperwork hassles and BS from your insurance and the persons who hit you!

Is Excedrine OK to take?
vgerbus replied to angelface's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fill doctor prefers that I take Excedrin over Motrin which is a good thing because Excedrin is the only product that will get rid of my bad headaches. To be sure though, talk to your own doctor. -

Thank you for the name and number. I will certainly check her out to see if she could do an unfill if necessary and if not her maybe she could give me a name of a doctor who could.

February/March 08 plastics
vgerbus replied to losingjusme's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
One more thing, How may of you had unfills? My band doctor said that I shouldn't need one, the PS said I didn't need one, but after reading the posts from Kareyquilts I am wondering if I shouldn't get at least a small unfill. -

vgerbus replied to losingjusme's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have a question for everyone that just had PS. For the ones that had muscle repair, do you think that made your pain worse? My doctor says that he is pretty sure I won't need muscle repair but won't know for sure until he gets in there. Do you think your pain would have been less with out the muscle repair? I am having a TT, BA, BL & lipo of hips, thighs, back fat, and butt on June 3rd. I can't wait, just worried about the pain, especially if I need muscle repair. -
New to site from Louisiana
vgerbus replied to Jeanettia's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I am originally from Nebraska but currently living in Shreveport, LA. I was self-pay so I was banded 9/06 in Mexico and have been very happy with my results. I am currently down 80 lbs. (originally wanted to loose 100) and have scheduled plastic surgery for June 08. Where in Louisiana are you? Who are you going to use for your fills? I had a hard time finding someone close to Shreveport at first but am very happy with my fill doctor now. -
My port is on the right side just below my rib cage. The inscision is just to the right of my belly button so my port has moved up. I was in a serious car accident with broken ribs on the left and had lots of scar tissue so that is the only reason my port was placed on the right side. loose skin and sagging breast
vgerbus replied to monakj's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It depends on the person and the amount of weight needed to loose. I have been banded since 9/06 and I have lost 80+/- depending on the time of day. I recently set my surgery date for a tummy tuck, BL, BA, and lipo for June 08. My belly is not a huge apron because I didn't have a huge amount to loose, but I lost a lot of volume in the breasts. I went from a D to a large B, small C. Valarie To be related is merely an accident of DNA, but friends are God's apology for relatives -
I used Dr. Maese for some of my fills. I live in Shreveport, LA. He is reasonable but is very agressive with his fills. With each fill, I was filled on a Thursday or Friday, and each time I was back in his office within 5 days because there was too much of a fill. the two times I was filled/unfilled, I lost 10# each time before my unfill. I started to look for another fill doctor after the last time I was overfilled. If you live close to Dallas, he is reasonable for the price of fills but just be aware that he is agressive with his fills and if you are not close to Dallas is it worth your time and gas to go back for an unfill. Especially if you had band issues you do not need more problems from over agressive fills. Just my 2 cents. I know that you are looking at Kuri and Sanchez but I used Dr. de la Garzia in Monterrey. He works out of OCA Hospital. My total cost not including airfare was $8,200.00. This price included the day before surgery in the hotel, which is located on the 4th floor of the hospital, very nice rooms, two beds for family or friends to stay with you, then the day of surgery you were sent to a private, very large recovery room until the third day where you were sent back down to your "hotel room" until you left on the 4th day. Fills are done under floro and there is no charge for your fills for life. I have only gone down for one fill with him because of the price of airfare vs. what my fill doctor charges. When my husband gets his new job I may be flying to Mexico for fills because it looks like it will be cheaper than paying a fill doctor in US. It will also be a mini vacation for me. When you go down for your fills, your fill is free and you also get a night at the hospital "hotel room" for free. You will only have to pay for any meals you order from the hospital. If you want to check out his web site it is litenfree.com. Valarie
