I don't know if you would call my port a burning feeling when I was pregnant but once I got into the 34+ weeks it did start to hurt, especially when I would bend over to wash my legs..I figured it was just the baby getting bigger maybe pushing on it or it was irritated...Just wanted to let you know that when I gave birth at 38 weeks I had zero issues with my port or my band..I actually didn't even feel it, and now that I am 3 weeks post I don't feel any pain in my port area at all..Hope this helps, and I hope the port burning feeling goes away soon...congrats on your pregnancy

Yes, I have heard of them and considered getting one for myself..We tried over a year to get pregnant so at the end we were trying anything to get pregnant...We were put on fertility meds but what also helped us a lot was using OPK strips...not sure if your familiar with them but you can get 100 on ebay for about $5.00, you just pee on them and they tell you if your close to ovulation...I started about 7 days after my period started and used one everytime I went to the bathroom...then you get a good idea of when and if your ovulating...they are wonderful and highly recommended for anyone trying to get pregnant...also I highly recommend Pre-seed, it is a lubricant that helps semen get closer to your eggs..it is the only lubricant that is safe to use while trying to get pregnant..I tried it for 2 months and it worked!! If these things don't work I would suggest talking to your OB and asking if there is some medication you can take that will help you ovulate...I was on Femara, I had zero side effects and it was very simple to use and obviously worked...best of luck to you and I hope you get pregnant very soon!!!

13 weeks pregnant, high risk and banded
aSpen replied to armywife71503's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I just had my little girl and I never got unfilled...I ended up losing a lot of weight my entire pregnancy...I went from 210 to 190 and stayed that way my entire pregnancy...not til the very end did I actually gain any weight..I weighed 198 when I delivered...my baby girl was healthy as a horse...no issues with her what so ever..I barely ate myself, although I didn't feel anymore restricted then I usually feel...I just ate slower and drank a ton of water prior to eating..I drank protein shakes in the morning to be able to get the protein and vitamins...just make sure you get enough protein and water..also make sure you take your prenatal vitamins too...Best of luck with your pregnancy and congrats..hope you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy.. -

Experiencing things with pregnancy
aSpen replied to rcruz's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I am 37 weeks and never got unfilled, although I have heard a lot of women have restriction problems as they get further along in their pregnancy...because everything gets tighter up in your stomach area from the baby growing...I don't have any suggestions other then calling your band doctor and asking if you might need to get unfilled more...Hope you get the problem fixed, getting stuck is not fun... -
Pregnancy & Delivery with the band
aSpen replied to Chicky abby's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks Abby for the info, I am due in the next 1-2 weeks I hope :cursing: I am so glad you posted about your experience. Overall this pregnancy (even though my first) has been fairly easy. I have not gained any weight and have not thrown up either. I also have the issue with my port sticking out, I have been having a tiny bit of discomfort from my port but if I move around it will go away. Congrats on your brand new baby girl  -
Fell off Lap Band wagon, wants back on, but found out I'm pregnant
aSpen replied to mshooper's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congrats on your pregnancy...I got my band in Dec. 2008 I lost 50 lbs very slowly and in Feb 2009 my husband and I started trying to get pregnant..well we went through a lot of ups and downs and ended up having to be put on fertility meds and having a miscarriage..but we ended up getting pregnant again in..I am 34 weeks pregnant and have not got an unfill and have been perfectly fine..I weighed 210 in Dec and dropped down to 190..as of my last appointment I weigh 194..my advice to you right now is keep your fill in as long as you can..I really think that made a huge difference..I ate what I wanted and exercised as much as I could..which was basically swimming in my pool and walking the mall looking to buy baby stuff  I really think at this point in time being pregnant you shouldn't worry so much about your weight and just make sure your eating the right types of foods to keep your baby healthy..exercise when and if you can and trying swimming it is fantastic..it helps with all the horrible pains..good luck and keep us posted on your progress!! -
Surgery soon and want a baby!
aSpen replied to jfaulk71's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Good luck with your band and getting pregnant...It took my husband and I over a year to become pregnant with the help of fertility drug called Femera. I would suggest trying fertility drugs such as clomid or femera they work wonders..I would also try Pre-seed, ovulation test strips..all those put together helped my husband and I get pregnant..and I swear by them..Good luck and I hope you have good news for all of us here soon!! -
Just wanted to let everyone know that Gallbladder stones during pregnancy are extremely common...especially with significant amounts of weight lose prior to becoming pregnant..so if your having unknown pains that may be the cause and some ob's don't always catch it..if it ruptures it can harm your baby and you... I was having pains under my right breast and was told it was heart burn or acid reflux, well needless to say when I went in for an ultrasound I asked the tech to check my Gallbladder and sure enough I have a large amount of stones.. It is the 2nd most common condition in pregnancy to heartburn..which I didn't know.. Just thought I would throw this out there, I did a lot of research about Gallstones because I knew I did not have acid reflux or heartburn..I tried every type of medication out there to help relieve the pain and attacks and nothing helped..now about 4 weeks after I give birth I will have to have it taken out.. Hope no one comes across these pains but please if you are talk to your ob dr and take care of the problem before it gets out of hand...hope this helps some of you.. Took these symptoms from a website: Steady pain in the upper abdomen that increases rapidly and lasts 30 minutes to several hours Pain in the back between the shoulder blades Pain under the right shoulder Nausea or vomiting Abdominal bloating Recurring intolerance of fatty foods Belching Gas and indigestion Extreme symptoms Sweating Chills Low-grade fever Yellowish skin or whites of eyes Clay-colored stools

Had Twins and now need to get back in the banding world! NEED HELP
aSpen replied to Amcmh95's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
First off Congrats on your twins!!! I had struggled with fertility issues like you and that in itself is very stressful let alone having twins at 25 weeks...you are a very strong woman and I commend you on that.. As far as getting back on track I know it can be hard having two 9 month olds crawling all over the house...I have also heard that the first fill after pregnancy doesn't always take or take that quick...I would wait it out a little bit and teach yourself again what your suppose to eat and the correct amount...Also you might want to consider going on a liquid only diet (if your not breastfeeding) and see about getting your hunger and stomach back in control...I know with my doctor after a fill I am to be on a liquid diet for 3 days and if I notice that after then if I start to get hungry I put myself back on one to shrink my stomach down..if that doesn't work maybe you should go back in for a little more fill even though you have a 4cc band..I have just a little over 3cc's in my 4cc band and I am still pregnant but I haven't had any issues..I would try to work with your band and relearn it..things might have changed since you were pregnant..your hormones, eating habits and so on... Life savers for me are Protein shakes in the morning, I get the generic ones from Walmart and drink one every morning they hold me off for a few hours..I think everyone is different and it just depends on your body..I never was someone that watched my diet with the band..just adjusting the portion on food intake helped me lose the weight and thankfully for me I can eat everything, nothing gets stuck..I hope you can get back on track and lose the unwanted weight you want gone...good luck and of course we are always here for you for support.. congrats again!!! -
Agree with Brie..I think what is most important right now is that your baby is getting the proper care he/she needs..I think a lot of women that are banded and get pregnant are terrified they will gain weight and never be able to get back down to the weight they were prior to getting pregnant...I would wait until after then go see your doctor and talk to him/her about what you can do to shrink it..You shouldn't be ashamed that you gained weight while pregnant it is completely normal banded or not banded..I hope everything works out and you get back on the track you want to be on and you have a wonderful birth...congrats on your pregnancy!!

Sickness while pregnant?
aSpen replied to Brie_SDmamaofTwins's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I had morning sickness as well, although I didn't throw up often it was no different then normal throwing up I do on occasion...But there is medication like Shay has said and if Phenergan doesn't work they have Zofran which is a miracle drug and doesn't have as many side effects as Phenergan...I did not get unfilled at all and still haven't and the morning sickness of course has passed but it was nothing that I look back on and think wow that was bad...good luck with whatever you decide -
Congrats on your birth!! So glad everything turned out great :blushing:

Has weight loss affected ovulation timing?
aSpen replied to crazydaisy0729's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I had problems getting pregnant, we tried for over a year and had to be put on fertility meds..however...yes I feel losing weight had messed up my period and ovulation..my periods were shorter and always seems to come anywhere between 27-34 days..so yes I consider them to be out of control...your best bet is to get on Ebay and buy ovulation test strips...I literally lived on these..I tested every single time I pee'd and knew exactly when I was ovualting..they are cheap and work miracles...if you want extra help grab yourself some pre-seed it is amazing..the first month I tried it we got pregnant..it is one of the only lubrications out there that are safe and help with pregnancy..but def get some ovulation sticks, and just test at least 2 times a day..in the morning and evening..good luck getting pregnant!! Hope you don't have to try long :smile2: a really good place to go for trying to conceive is www.themommyplaybook.com there are so many women on there that are trying and have some great ideas..hope this helps -
7 wks pregnant - over 40 Yikes
aSpen replied to gordonfmly's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congrats on your pregnancy...I am 26 weeks pregnant and I have not unfilled at all..I have been banded for 1 year and 6 months and have lost roughly 50 lbs..I have not gained any weight since I have been pregnant... I would say a few questions to ask your doctor is to find out if they have ever dealt with anyone with a lapband..my doctor has not and had to do a lot of research..I would get on a prenatal vitamin right away, ask about extra folic acid...and also I would say as far as getting unfilled that is up too, I don't understand why so many women jump to get unfills when honestly I have had ZERO issues being filled...As far as morning sickness goes it is normal from pregnancy to pregnancy and you might throw up or get sick to your stomach...if you feel your morning sickness is getting bad and you can't keep anything down talk to your doctor about getting some medication to take...I had horrible morning sickness and had to take Zofran and it made everything better..but what I was told during morning sickness time, it is more important for you to keep your fluid intake up then to eat...your baby will get what he/she needs from you..just remember drink lots and lots of water.. Being over 40 your going to have to have a little more genetic testing then women under 35..I would definitely opt for the genetic testing at 12-14 weeks, instead of waiting later..but that is my opinion..just keep your protein intake up..I drink Walmart brand (slim fast) shakes and eat Luna bars (which are yummy) to get my extra protein..keep your water intake up, and just enjoy your pregnancy..:smile2: -

Incredibly painful port site!
aSpen replied to mommakatx2's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Lately I have experienced port pain, my scar hurts (assuming from stretching) and the port if I lay wrong it feels like it is tearing..but overall it is just discomfort not knock me down pain...I hope the port pain goes away soon...your only a few weeks away..congrats!! -
I myself don't have GD, so far anyways. I have my second screening for it in about 2 weeks. I have a friend that is almost 26 weeks pregnant and found out when she was about 13 weeks and was shocked as well. She has said overall she was very scared in the beginning but has really accustomed herself to her new diet...she is on insulin and says it is not as bad as she thought it was going to be...she has actually lost weight and feels her eating habit have improved 100%, although she does not have the lap band she is a bigger girl. I am sorry you found out you have GD, but in a way it is very good that you did so you can get the right care for you and your baby..Congrats on your pregnancy..

How much weight did you gain?
aSpen replied to CindyLou2u's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Thats great news Cindy, I am 25 weeks now and still haven't gained a pound...I am down a few more pounds from when I posted at 15 weeks but I eat what I can when I want and make sure I get the right amounts in with the right Vitamins..I just don't understand why women feel the need to get unfilled..I never once thought about it..not because I was afraid to gain weight but because I didn't see a reason to..esp since the doctor said everything is perfect.. I have had some reflux and have tried a few different meds but Zantac seems to work the best for me, just remember if your taking tums they make you constipated..so don't take too many.. Such great news your having a girl  That is what I am having too..congrats again!! -
Seems like enough to me but honestly, my doctor said try to get the Protein in...so I drink a Protein shake every morning..although I feel I eat a lot and I eat what I want but it is usually healthy I haven't gained a pound and I am 25 weeks...so I would keep a book of what you eat and talk to you doctor about the amount of food your taking in..only he/she can tell you if your eating enough..and if you don't eat enough your baby will get the nutrients from you regardless...congrats  Also keep taking your prenatal Vitamins, I actually take extra folic acid but you have to talk to your doctor about that..

When did you get unfilled after finding out you were pregnant?
aSpen replied to PSJ71's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I am 25 weeks pregnant, and I don't plan on getting it unfilled...I have lost 20 lbs since I found out I was pregnant and haven't put on a pound yet..but dr. says everything is ok and to just keep an eye on what I eat..I don't think you have to get unfilled as long as your able to get food down and eat the right types of food.. -
Congrats to all the preggo bandsters;)
aSpen replied to jfromsd's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
First off I want to congrats on your pregnancy  I know what it is like to have PCOS, I was diagnosed over 2 years ago and had a very difficult time getting pregnant...Second I want to tell you to look into Fill Center USA's they are all over the United States and provide fills for patients (like us, I was banded in Mexico too). They are a bit on the pricey side to begin with but the 2nd fill drops down in price a lot..It has been very hard for me to find a doctor locally that would provide me with fills since I did not get it done in the United States or by them...As far as being filled or unfilled during pregnancy, honestly I think it is a personal choice..I myself don't count calories, I also have become a vegatarian (not by choice) apparently my baby does not like meat so I have just been eating what I want when I want...I drink at least 2 protein shakes a day to get that extra protein and I eat alot of veggies, fruit and fiber cereal..My doctor honestly has no idea really what a lapband is all about, I am his first patient but I think as long as I am able to keep my meals down, my intake steady then I am good to go...I also haven't gained any weight since I got my BFP (big fat positive)..I actually have lost 20 lbs and keep losing which my doctor doesn't feel is a bad thing...so I hope your able to find a doctor..and once again congrats on your pregnancy... -
I had the test done and also drank the orange flavored one..honestly I don't remember it having a alot of fuzz in it..but it wasn't an issue..it doesn't taste great and I would say if you have morning sickness be ready but other then that you will be fine..good luck and I hope you don't have GD..

Honestly I have no idea, but I would def go to the doctors and get it checked out it sounds like it hurts very bad...good luck hun and congrats on your baby
