Did you try Fill Centers USA? Fill Centers USA - Lap Band Fill - Lap Band Support - Lap Band Post Surgery - Weight Loss Surgery - Fill Center USA - LapBand Adjustments - Bariatric Surgery - LapBand Fill I am scheduled for surgery on 3/24 in Mexico and was so worried about not having a doctor here who I will go to for aftercare. I had called Fill Centers USA and they have someone in my area that I will go to as a back-up. I ultimately found a bariatric doc who will take me on as a patient. Good luck! -
Lap-Band in Mexico, scheduled for 4-29-10

I am scheduled for surgery in Mexico on 3/24 and I could not be more excited. I did so much research and decided on using Dr. Kuri. I had a lot of the same problems you are encountering with my family and a few friends and that is exactly why I was very selective about who I shared this with. My husband was/is my biggest supporter in this. He will be with me during the whole journey. My advice to you is do what you feel is the best thing for you. As long as you researched the doctor you've chosen and are comfortable with your decision, go for it. Also, the second most important thing to do is line-up your after care/fills, etc. with a doctor near your home. I had a lot of trouble finding a doctor to take care of me after the surgery but I found one. please email me if you have any other questions....jdt36x@yahoo.com. Good luck to you! -
New to group BMI 30 surgery in May

Oh, and I agree with you 100% about the whole cosmetic surgery thing. My best friend told me she didn't think I needed a lap-band, that I didn't have to do something so drastic. I told her I love her but I didn't question her when she got breast augmentation so I asked her not to judge me. I actually didn't say that until she said she was concerned about me having surgery which would result in a foreign object being left in my body. Was she kidding? Thats when I brought up the breast augmentation. The way I look at it, I'm 47 and I've been dieting for the last 20 years. My BMI has been creeping up and is now a 33. I want to end this now...lose the weight and get my life back. My family has a history of Diabetes and I want to end the cycle. The lap-band is a tool that I've been missing and I pray that I will be successful with it! -
New to group BMI 30 surgery in May

Lining up after-care was a nightmare for me! I called so many doctors and kept being rejected because I was having the surgery out of the country. I really felt discriminated against! There is a Fill Center USA nearby but I felt strongly about wanting to be a patient of a bariatric doctor. I finally found a doctor about 100 miles south of where I live in Ormand Beach. There are a few other docs who will see me 3 months after the surgery so I'll see what I want to do. May will be here before you know it. I scheduled my surgery in mid-January and I cannot believe it is now only 26 days away! -

You all are so fortunate that your insurance seems to be covering most of the surgery. I was rejected from BC BS even though I have a BMI of 34, osteoarthritis and diabetes. I just couldn't afford to self-pay with a US doctor so we will be going to MX for the surgery. The doctor was actually referred to me by a local bariatric surgeon who was trained by the MX doctor! I will be following up with the local bariatric surgeon for all my after-care, fills, etc. -
Congratulations! How are you feeling? I am having surgery on 3/24 by Dr. Kuri in MX. I live in FL and the only part of the whole MX thing is the long flight home! I am petrified that I am going to be so uncomfortable and in pain. How did you feel going back? Also, how are you handling your after-care? Will you be going back to MX for fills, check-ups etc? Thanks for answering these questions.

Thanks for asking these questions. I will be banded on 3/24 and have many of the same! My surgery is in MX and the only thing I am dreading the most is the plane ride back home! I do not look forward to sitting in a plane seat for all those hours feeling achy and bloated! -

I just posted the following in the support group of the same name and I thought I'd post here also: Hi All, My name is Jacquie and I am originally from Long Island, New York but just recently relocated to Ormond Beach, FL with my husband. I will be banded on 3/24 by Dr. Kuri in Mexico. I decided to use Dr. Kuri after a lot of research. Unfortunately ( or fortunately depends how you look at it) I have a BMI of 33.4 so I do not qualify for coverage with my insurance carrier, BCBS. I have arthritis in my knees and ankle and was just told I am pre-diabetic. I checked with a few docs here and was told that I would qualify to have the surgery with them, there was no chance I could get it covered. I just could not afford the cost to be self-pay here. So, we leave for MX on 3/22 and will be banded on 3/24. I have a wonderful support system with my husband and children and I have lined up a great doctor for my after-care when I get home. I am excited to have found all of you and I look forward to supporting and being supported by all of you! Jacquie -
