I really struggled with my decision for four years. I lost weight on the South Beach Diet on my own so my Primary care doctor recommended the lap band surgery. I went to the free seminar I like what I heard. I completed the six month requirement by Aetna at the time. I got laid off and lost my insurance. I had my husbands insurance but Optima didn't allow the surgery. So I was stuck, or so I thought. I found a new job and took the insurance. I called the provider and I asked before I took the plan. Aetna had the six month rider like my old insurance. I had a hysterectomy in December 2006 at that point I did not want anymore cutting on my body. So I let it go and tried on my own unsuccessfully. In 2008 I got ill to the point that I was missing work every other day. I had sinus surgery. While on disability for my sinus surgery I found out that I had ulcers, lesion in my intestines borderline hypertension, and just plain sick and tired. My E.N.T and my Gastroenterologist recommended the surgery so I went to the free seminar again in the summer of 2008. But there was one thing that I got mixed up.I was under the impression that I could still use the six months from 2006. So that mixed me up until January of 2009. So I started the six months back up and finished in October 2009. I had also completed all of the evaluations as well. So the final step was sending off all the information to Aetna. I was panicked I waited two weeks no answer. I called Aetna no one got the paperwork and the paperwork had to re-sent. Called the surgeons office I think I drove them crazy. Finally on December 30, 2009 I was approved for the Lap Band Surgery. So on January 4 I called my the surgeons office again, and again,. The office manager called me back to make my date. I thought it would something far out but no it was January 14, 2010. So I was banded last Thursday I still suffer with the gas that is expected but I don't regret my decision one bit.
