Ok, I really wasn't sure where to post this. My girl friend has had the lap band done for a year and a half now. She has lost ALOT of weight. She was at about 230-240 lbs and is down to about 130 and is an 8 cc band. However, with so much weight loss she has a self conscious issue with her stomach and breasts. Her stomach isn't that big anymore, mostly it seems like excess skin with a smaller amount of fat there. Her breasts are, "Grandma boobs", as she has been calling them since they aren't as full and have sag to them. She hasn't felt comfortable with her new body. She went out shopping for swim suits and decided on one that didn't show her stomach. When she first got the surgery she said she couldn't wait to lose all the weight she had and be able to walk around in string bikini's and stuff like other girls. I think she is really disappointed that she can't do that even while being smaller cause of her stomach. Will time help with both of these or what can she do to help? I always try to be as supportive as I can.

She is 20 years old. I tell her she is beautiful every day. As a guy, being told I'm handsome makes me feel handsome but I suppose for a girl being told your beautiful and feeling beautiful are two very different categories. I might try some kind of muscle building exercise with her just to do it with her.

I wasn't sure where to post this exactly so I decided here since it does involve meals and food but also the surgery itself. My gf has had an 8 cc band for the last 1 1/2 years. She got put to a 5 cc fill about a month ago. She has gone from about 250lbs down to about 190. She has always had trouble keeping food down. Mostly things like bread. I think because she tends to fast that she doesn't really chew anything very well either. Just my guesses, I'm not doctor. She also doesn't eat much. I think its out fear of getting sick with each meal. However, she became dehydrated a few days ago. She was vomitting alot and complained of lightheadness and simply not feeling well. She went to the doctor and had them take out half a cc or so. She is doing a little better, even though her skin is dry and she looks 5 years older. The doctor has her drinking things like orange juice, Water, and tomato juice. She said the doctor said that someone people have to be a certain range from their "sweet spot" or else they get dehydrated. How is this so? Her meals haven't consisted of much. Some days I ask her what she has eaten and its never anything enough to sustain a person for a day. I really don't remember the last time she even had two decent sized meals a day. She never eats 3 times a day(which may not be necessary for some lap band patients i suppose). Can I have a list of what others with lap band eat in a day? Whether its 1 or 3 times or more a day? I'm just not sure she is doing this right or quite possibly I just don't understand that this is what happens. I'm not in the medical field so I may know absolutly nothing. Any info, thoughts, comments, corrections, are welcome.

My girlfriend has had the lapband surjury done. Its been 6 months now and she has a 8 cc band and has about 3-4 cc's so far. She just went and got another cc. She hardly eats anything and what she does it usually throws it up. For example last satruday she tried some breakfest, took three bites, and it was back up 10 minutes later. That was about noon. Come about 7 or 8 at night she had a piece of cherry cheese cake(which is very yummy by the way) and ate about half of it. That was one day. Even before she got the last cc when she ate she was always getting sick. I know getting sick is part of it but in my opinion she needs to be getting SOMETHING in her or else its like starvation. Whats the best way for her to take care of herself? I don't mind any comments on understanding things or corrections I need. She also goes back in the middle of febuary for another 1/2 cc.

how to maintain after surgery
Eishiba replied to Eishiba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We live about an hour away so I don't see her everyday. She lives out in the sticks and doesn't have internet. I have told her about this and keep telling her what responses I am getting so its not like I'm doing this behind her back. I want to get her going on 60 grams of protein. I guess she hasn't gotten used to what she can and can't eat. -

Whats a poutch test? She doesn't handle bread well. She also says its bad to drink while eating. She usually drinks like coke and stuff. (i myself can't stand carbonation of anything.) She ate some steak and mashed potatos last night. Today she didn't eat until about 2 or 3. We tried some steak n shake where she orders a plate of like 3 pieces of chicken and fries along with some kind of milkshake with nuts in it. She had one and a half of chicken and maybe half her fries. She said the milkshake goes down better. She said taking smaller bites and chewing more was helping and she still mentioned feeling sick. She does better if she stops for maybe five minutes and then continues. Dumb question but since the surgury is designed to help make someone go longer with out food. Can the meal she had last night of steak and mashed potatoes keep her going til 2 or 3? Can I get a suggestion of a REAL diet for someone with this condition? Any suggestions or anything would be great. I'm also going to be keeping tabs on what she eats. -

Sometimes she doesn't vomit. Sometimes she can go a day without it. She usually mentions feeling like she is going to though. Alot of times when she eats I notice she stops. I suppose thats when everything is working its way down to the lower part. But thats where I get lost cause I thought it was supposed to let you go longer while "full". She waits about five minutes and then goes back to eating. She usually makes the comment, "don't mind if I get up and go to the bathroom just in case." At the time I would tease her a little about vomiting cause I thought it was normal and we tease each other all the time knowing its not out of being mean. Now that I know its not normal to be vomiting its serious to me. I think I want to get her to start keeping track of what she eats and keep record of what comes back up and what stays down. And ye, she has lost weight since then. About 16 pounds is what she said. -

She doesn't seem to throw everything up, I know she doesn't handle bread cause of how it reacts in the stomach. Like she had a little bit of steak a few days ago. I think she isn't chewing fully or something. I can't catch on to any common factors in what she eats and throws up. -

She says she is chewing her food slowly, fully, and taking small bites. I was thinking of suggesting to increase her chewing and do smaller bites. Her version of small may not be someone elses I'm assuming. In reply to sld21, certainly she isn't eating too much right? I really don't think she is eating enough...at all.
