Hi! I'm going to a seminar on Thursday, seems to be a Q&A session. What I'm really wondering is what to expect when I schedule my surgical consult. What really happens at this appointment?
-
Oh. I would hate to have to pay for it myself, so I'll just have to see what happens with my insurance. The speed of the process would be nice though. The longer I have to think about something the more likely I am to back out... Back to the sleep study question though: Have any of you had any previous surgery history where a sleep study wasn't performed? I had my gallbladder taken out back in May and the only testing I had to have was a pregnancy test and a comp. metabolic panel. As far as I know there were no complications during the surgery but the anesthesia did make me really sick when I was coming out of it. Does it really just depend on surgeon preference?

Thanks guys! I'm nervous about the whole process, even the seminar, but very excited and ready to get started!

I am definitely a more of a keep it quiet kind of person as well. In my opinion it is not really anybody's business. Would you go up to someone who hadn't had surgery and ask them how much they weighed or had lost? To me these are private things and unless volunteered should not be asked for. I discussed with my PCP today and how I felt about not wanting anyone to know. She said that she completely understood because she doesn't even let most peopl know that she is pregnant until it is obvious. Too many questions and nosy people, even is the majority mean well. There is already enough stress and pressure in life without having other people monitor it for you!

Hi! My name is Michelle and I am from Kentucky. I just turned 26 last week. I have wanted to have this procedure for years but have never really followed through. I have mentioned it to my PCP but other than that, nothing. I've decided though that I can't afford to NOT have the procedure. I may not be around in 20 years to regret not having it. The time is definitely now, more accurately the time was years ago. Have you guys always had weight issues or is it something that has just happened recently, within the last 10 years or so? I don't know anything other than what I am now and remember my first trip to the dietician when I was in 3rd grade.

Smitten Kitten, Off topic here, but how did you're process go so quickly? I notice it was roughly a month from your consult to your surgery.

I am so glad that I found this site. I just turned 26 and this procedure is something I have considered for quite a while. I am going to a seminar in my area on the 21st of this month and am excited and nervous at the same time. I know that beginning this journey will be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have a few question. For one, is a sleep study always required or is it case by case? I had my gallbladder removed about 8 months ago and other than some basic bloodwork I didn't have to have any other special tests. Also, what kind of support systems does everyone have? I am very uncomfortable discussing any of this with people so this site is a godsend! (Not to say that you guys aren't people, its just so much easier to chat online!) I have been on some kind of diet or another practically since I was in 4th grade. I also worry about some of the documentation because I have always refused to be weighed at the doc's office. Sorry for the ramblings. I really need to organize my thoughts!
