My name is Donna I am 43 years old. I have been over 220 pounds for 25 years, I tried twice before to have the lap band done but due to insurance it was never approved. I got a new insurance  June 2009 and it said it covered bariatrics, I was a little skeptical beacause the last 2 times I went through all of the reqired testing and was still denied, so I didnt get my hopes up this time. It wasnt until November 2009 that I got the nerve to call Ashley at Dr Vuongs office; I asked her to see if my new insurance would cover the lap band procedure; she said she would verify benefits and get back to me. (I still did not get my hopes up). She called me the next day and told me the good news; not only does it cover 90%, the only requirement is a nutritional visit. I was shocked, I couldnt beleive it was finally going to happen. I scheduled an appt with Dr Voung and began to prepare for surgery. Over the next few weeks I prepared for surgery by adhering to Dr Vuongs requirements which consists of 1 week on a 1200 calorie diet where you must lose 1 pound and then 2 weeks of Optifast prior to surgery. I followed his orders and had surgery on January 12, 2010. I am ready for a new year and a new me.
