Not sure what I am doing wrong!
patsal replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What would I ever do without you guys to guide me in the right direction? After journaling for yesterday and today I noticed the protien grams were way low...Like 30- 40 when they should be 80-90. Makes all kinds of sense now. While I was on vacation I was using 2 shakes per day to supplement what I was certain was way too few grams of protien. I had weight loss while on vacation. Once I returned home, I slacked with the protien shakes because I was able to eat more, but 2 ounces of protien like chicken after cooking is around 14 grams of protien. So I was getting 40-48 grams per day with shake for breakfast, chicken for lunch and tuna for dinner, etc. This also explains my extreme fatigue, really sore muscles after working out, lack of weight loss, and hair loss. -
hmm doing the .37 math thing makes me need 82 grams per day...after paying close attention to journaling all food, that puts me at about half of what I am supposed to get and explains the insane amount of hair falling out. I'm going to look at my protein supps and see what I need to do to get the grams up. This could also explain the lack of weight loss I am experiencing.

Because there is just enough time between fills to forget fully how crappy the swelling plus restriction makes us feel! Hope you are back to your usual self in no time!

You are not a loser and you should not give up! Admittedly this process can be slow and frustrating at times, but you need to take control as others have said. Talk to your Dr. if you don't like the answer, look to see f you can find another Dr. who will listen to you. Journal what you are eating and make the necessary changes. If you keep doing the right things you are bound to lose weight.

Not sure what I am doing wrong!
patsal replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My salads have gotten quite big moving them from saucer to dinner plate, so I made that switch with dinner tonight. I will add the shake as well, since I am willing to try anything to get this going again. I almost started the liver reduction diet today thinking that might help to get me back on track and certainly give me all the protein I need! If I could just get the scale to move in the right direction again before I go to the dr. I would feel better. -
Not sure what I am doing wrong!
patsal replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, I am watching what I am eating, I have about 2 ounces of good protien--fish, chicken, pork, beef for dinner with a salad--which is now like a full cup of lettuce rather than a 1/2 cup. Cooked veggies round it out as well as fruit if I am still hungry. Breakfast is a protien shake to keep the grams up, but occasionally it is a scrambled egg. lunch is half a sandwich, and a cup of Soup, or salad with meat and cheese. I am low carb pretty much south beach phase 1 and sometimes phase 2. Snacks if I am hungry are things like greek yogurt, string cheese, hummus, whole wheat crackers or pita. Exercise is 3 x per week at the gym--35 minutes of cardio followed by strength training for an additonal 25 or so minutes. Usually I walk for an hour one or two more times per week. -
How Much Saline @ First Fill?
patsal replied to 2beskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In a 10cc band. 2cc, 2cc, 1cc., .5cc, .75cc removed going back 9/1 asking for.4 cc (I think!) -
how do you know if your too tight?
patsal replied to janaey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what you are sharing, you may be too tight. I felt that way and had some removed. I feel worlds better and can eat the right amount of food to prompt weight loss. remember a too tight band is what causes many band problems like slippage, erosion, gerd, etc. If you are unable to keep about 2/3 to a cup of food down at any meal than you may very well be too tight. your weight loss will slow as well. -
pre-op house cleaning!!! Just venting...
patsal replied to jingleboob's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This too shall pass. My Ds is a total slob. I learned for certain it was him over the past two weeks. I cleaned my house thouroughly before leaving for a two week vacation. Usually on vacation I am constantly cleaning the villa, this time, I barely had a thing to pick up. My DD and DH are pretty neat and the mess was all from pigpen. Now I get home, the plants are dead--opps forgot to water them, the lawn is shin high--oops I forgot to mow, the gas tank in the car is empty--oh used the gas money to take my gf out to dinner. Get in the house...carpets have all sorts of debris on them...oh was I supposed to run the vac? The kitchen floor is covered in sticky messes...I wiped it with paper towel...The sink is full of dishes and the dishwasher was run with pots and pans with all sorts of food still in them...needless to say I had to rewash all the stuff in the diswasher by hand, scour what was in the sink, take out two weeks of trash, rewash and scrub everything. That was just the first floor, the bathroom had not been cleaned and two weeks of clothing was on the floor, towels were washed, but he forgot to turn on the dryer. I don't know, he will be 19 in September and bless his room mate at college, this kid is just a mess. And none of it is from lack of knowing what to do or having been taught what to do. Counting down the days to a clean house...and we are now at 14 until he leaves! woohoo:rolleyes2: -
Watch those gummies cause with restircition they may stick. For now they are fine, but after you finish that bottle go to a centrum complete chewable or even flintstones complete. They dissolve fully so you won't have any stuck.
-
It is a learning experience, stop beating yourself up and move on. Today is a new day, stick with the pre-op for the rest of the duration and you will be fine. If you feel the need to cheat, make a better cheat choice that isn't high in carb, the purpose of the pre-op is to help purge the carbs and excess glycogen from your system!

My Symtoms....Anyone Else?
patsal replied to raeraesd80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call and get seen asap. However, in the mean time, take MOM and that should help with the dull pain. Go to bland foods and watch your portion sizes, that in tandem with the prilosec should help. Before banding I was on 2 prilosec per day, one when I got up and one before bed. Do not eat anything after your dinner meal, but continue to drink plenty of water. -
How long did it take until you got restriction?
patsal replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is so different for everyone. I have had 4 fills and two slight unfills after a surgery in February. I am losing weight very consistently now and have almost no hunger, but I feel like I am eating too much at meals. I plan to leave things alone so long as I am not feeling hunger between meals and still losing at a rate of 1-2 pounds per week. If that changes than I will get a slight fill to give me better restriction and keep me from feeling hungry too soon. I'm guessing if all the parts are in place, even if I think I am eating too much but weight is coming off, than it is all good. I'm guessing too tight restricts too many calories that really are needed and makes one go into starvation mode slowing weight loss to a standstill (where I was for the three weeks before the slight unfill). -
HELP What should I do
patsal replied to keepinfaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with Trishfish on this one. Do the two week pre-op diet of shakes to purge the bad carbs form your body and rid yourself of cravings. Once you've done that slowly add dense protien like fish, chicken lean pork and lean beef to your diet. If you have not been to the Dr. go and get a fill if necessary. Track your progress on one of hte many sites available to you. Get your butt moving by exercising 3-4 times a week even if it is only walking it will help. Good luck, I'm sure you can do this if you are committed to it! -
I had 5cc in a 10cc band. I thought I was almost there but still eating too much. I got a .5 cc fill. Took it over the top, couldn't even keep Water down in the am, no solid foods for three weeks. still lost 3 pounds during that three weeks. Went in had .25 cc taken out. 3 more weeks I can get liquids down no problem, but food is troublesome and I cna only get about three bites before I start sliming and get stuck. Lost no weight. Saw the Dr. not the PA. He removed .5 cc. I now can eat way too much from my perspective, but I am losing weight so I can't complain. I may have .25 added when I go back since I am able to fit in 4 ounces of chicken, half a cup of cooked veggies and a cup of salad at dinner. I have no hunger between meals. That makes me 4.75cc in 10cc band, but I think I should be at 5 or just a bit higher than 5. However if I am losing weight, not hungry between meals, etc. when I go on Sept. 1, I will not get a fill.

Just back from my two week vacation at Disney World, I lost 4 pounds! I cannot believe it. I am so happy, that adjustment to take a bit more out before I left for vacation really made a difference. I can get a bit more food in and have no hunger for hours and hours. Loving my band!

No loss, but no gain, I had a bit of an unfill, and I am feeling much better. I suspect I will see a loss on Monday!
-
I was the same way. I had them aadd only .5 cc to my existing 5cc in my 10 cc band. I went 3 weeks barely able to drink, and mushies were a trial to get down. I went in and had .25 taken out. Over those 3 weeks I lost 3 pounds. Went in yesterday shared how I culd drink ok, eat about 1/4 cup of food before throwing up, then also shared that I was in perm slime mode. DIdn't matter what I ate or drank after about 1/4 cup I would slime. It made drinking all my water difficult, it made getting in enough calories and protien impossible. I lost no weight during those 3 weeks. Yesterday the Dr. took more out of my band. He said I should not be feeling like that and that with it too tight too much damage will ensue. From the effects of inadequate protein to possible band erosion, I was more than glad to get some taken out. I am now down 1 pound since yesterday and I feel like a whole different person, I have more energy, and can eat my whole cup of food again! I think what you are describing sounds like you have too much fill, I'd get some pulled out.
-
Just back from the Dr. Ended up being unfilled .25cc so back to 5cc in a 10cc band. I was unable to eat more than three bites befor ebeing sick, so a little unfill was the rec. from the doc. I have not lost any weight in 3 weeks, so hopefully being able to eat will help me to start losing again!

Looks like I'm back to my usual slow and steady one pound...beats nothing, but...

How many of you had insurance cover your Lap Band?
patsal replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Independent Health, approved the first time after meeting with Dr., Psych, and Nut. All of those were covered with a $20 copay each, $20 copay for pre-op testing and $20 copay for each fill. I love my insurance! -
how much am i gonna loose? start 225lbs
patsal replied to feelfat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PBing and sliming are not like regular throwing up--that yuks me out too. Once I had my first PB episode, thankfully at home, I learned it isn't the same as throwing up. I also learned what not to eat and that when you get the soft singnal of full don't go for that last bite. Even if there is only one cracker left in the box, wrap it or toss it cause you are not going to keep it down anyway! The port pain is usually just a quiet quick reminder that it is there, sometimes a waistband overlaps it, and a wrong twist will cause a quick pain. Or being seated weird will trigger, but it isn't constant or anything. I'm a slow loser so I lose about a pound a week. You will be faster most likely as you are much younger. -
Amen sister, I had to move over from the big "W" recenlty, wow it takes a long time to shop now. A funny aside. My DD ws about 7 at the time, she has wide feet so she knew her shoe size had a w with it or don't even ask me for them. Anyway, she was with me shopping and I found something I liked but couldn't find it in my size, well, she found one and she says, "look I found a 24 wide" So I tell her it stands for "womens sizes" however I get where she was coming from and my butt is wide--thanks to my band it is not as wide!

How many cc's before you reached your sweet spot?
patsal replied to DottieAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 5.25 in my 10cc band. I am close but not quite there. at 5.5 it was too much and I couldn't even keep water down. When I go in two weeks I have to decide if I want anohter fill or to just leave it alone. The appointment is on the 21st and I leave for vacation on Saturday the 24th so I am worried about having too much restriction and not being close to home. -
Questions about fills, protein shakes and suppliments....
patsal replied to koreabandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Though I know we are all different, that fill seems like a lot for a first fill! I have a 10cc band and was overfilled for me at 5.5 cc. THey did 2 cc the first fill, 2cc the second fill, 1 cc the third fill, .5 the fourth and .25 came out three weeks later. I go in two weeks and I'm thinking .1 and I'll be perfect! For vitamns I use Centrum complete chewables, and I like unjury powder. chocolate is my favorite, unflavored mixes well with crystal light, strawberry sorbet mixes well with crystal light lemonade, and vanilla makes great smoothies, or add some extracts to change the flavors up. I agree withthe pp who shared that the chicken soup can't get to a high enough temp to really enjoy.
