Creative way to buy new clothes!!
patsal replied to Beachbunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that's a great idea if you have the time for it. I am a clothes pack rat and know I need to get rid of nearly everything. I'm getting ready to put fall and winter stuff on ebay now--like the pp I am not hoarding these fat clothes! -
Does anyone have a break down of how much weight you lost after lapband surgery?
patsal replied to tryingtolose100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just saying what the PA told me when I said I thought I should be losing more quickly. Mea Culpa if that is incorrect information. -

patsal replied to tryingtolose100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The norm on lapband is 1 to 2 pounds per week weight loss. When the body loses too rapidly there is the danger of lots of hanging skin. Exercise will hep with that to a degree. -
Sometimes I don't think I will ever get this right!
patsal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my Dr. appointment yesterday. I lost a pound since the last visit (5 weeks). It was very busy as they had to fit all the afternoon patients in in the morning because the PA wasn't going to be able to do the pm appointment. Well I talked to the PA in training, and she seemed nice enough but still asked questions that were really odd to me--like if my hypertension was better---umm yup I am fat, but no I don't have hypertension and never had, if anything my BP runs on the low side. Next she asked where I thought I was ...yelllow, green or red. I said yellow as I am always hungry and am eating off of a salad plate rather than a saucer. Shared that I get hungry between meals and that I am getting all my protien in. I asked about hair loss since it is coming out in thick gobs when I wash my hair, She told me that I wasn't really losing that much hair, it was just my imagination...seriously, you can see my scalp:sad:. When she asked about exercise I shared that I walked 2 days per week in the summer plus I go to the gym 3 times per week and do 40 minutes of cardio and about a half hour of free weights. I added that since the weather had turned rather cruddy for walking I had added an extra day of cardio. She told me that the exercise I am doing will only help me to maintain my weight and not to lose any. WTH, I didn't do much of anything before being banded. Next she told me to cut out snacking before bed...again WTH, I never eat after dinner even if I am hungry. I explained all of this and felt like she thought I was lying about what I eat and how much I exercise since there was only a 1 pound loss:mad2:. Next comes in the reg PA. She said add biotin to help with the hair loss and double check to be certain I am getting my 80 grams of protien. Said to keep exercising and add extra gym time if the walking outdoors wont work due to weather. She says lets go with a bigger fill this time, I think you need it. This sounds all good. She however decides to let PA in training do the fill...she missed the port, ok so try again, misses the port but thinks she can root around with the needle to get it in. Now I am saying ouch and have tears streaming down my face:crying:. Reg PA takes a look... umm she is off by an inch and a half, remove needle and reg PA does the fill. It is all good, but I am still hurting 24 hours later. Reg PA tells PA in training that sometimes belly fat and scar tissue can be tricky and make you think it is the port---ok may be true, but my port sticks out and you can feel it pretty easily. Plus hey I 'm right here in the room and do not need to feel like her error is my fault for being fat, heck I am here becasue I am fat! So, now I am being extra careful to do the sequence of food progression so I don't get any stuck episodes to casue extra swelling. I bought the biotin and started taking those, but I still feel like she really thought I was laying around eating twinkies. BTW inches are still melting off rapidly and I had to go out and get all mnew pants for work. Oh well at least my students are seeing a difference..."Wow, Mrs. M, you lost a TON of weight" and I'm thinking thanks, could you call my PA in training!:tt2: -

You are all the best! Next time I will print off the last 10 days or so of my food/exercise journal that way I don't have to go away feeling bad. In my mind I think I've looked at the bigger picture so I am not that alarmed by the loss of only one pound--I figured there would be a real plateau sometime. Sure I'd like it to be 10, but I'll be perfectly happy if I meet my Christmas goal of Onederland. It's only 19 more pounds so I'm sure I can do it. -
Waiting period to eat after a Fill?
patsal replied to Border's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Clear liquids for 24 hours to 2 days, Full liquid for 2 to 4 days, mushies for 2-4 days , regular solids, with regression to clear liquids through to all steps if I have a stuck episode. As the fills get higher I personally find that opting to the side of caution is better and I have less trouble once I get to solids. Last fill I followed the higher end suggestions and had no regression, so I plan to do the same this time. -
I will get mine next month. I usually get one since I am a teacher and end up getting everything the kids do.

I sold my 26's, my 24's and my 22's. Next up are the 20's and 18's. I put them on ebay. I listed in lots and separately. the ones listed separately I did better on, while someone really cleaned up with entire wardrobes from CJ Banks and Coldwater Creek--the large boxes of lots consisting of 20 or more items went for about $10, while the things I listed separately sold for like $5 or so each. It can be time consuming, but I will list the other things separately since DD is going to use the money to help fund a France trip.

This is how mine are done as well.

I added an additonal day of cardio and have been tracking all of my food, looks like I'm finally getting the scale to move in the the right direction.

Any One Have to Keep Getting an Unfill? - Going in for 3rd One.
patsal replied to lap5280's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to have 3 unfills and then after 6 weeks I just had a very small fill. The one thing that the PA siad was it is common to mess it up after an unfill. Meaning that we get a too much fill, can't get stuff down but keep trying and it causes swelling. A little more is taken out and we think we can resume solids and many often forget to follow the clear liquids, full liquid, mushies solids. She said anytime I PB I should go back to the clear liquid, full liquid, mushy than solid. Things get swollen and it takes time to heal them. I am comfortably losing 1 pound a week again and will get a slight fill when I go in four weeks. Following the clear, full, mushy, solid this time each time I had an issue really made a difference. -
8 weeks so I'm going to go for 8 pounds. I am a slow loser and it will end up more like 6 pounds but I'd like to stretch it if I can!

If the pills are too large they make a children's pixie stick variety of mucinex mini melts on the dosage it says 2 to 4 packs for anyone 12 or older! (the downside is there are only 12 packets to the box, but if it helps to get it down...)

As I've posted before I just got myself really back on track. If I got to count pounds I lost than gained, than lost again I'd be at goal, lol. The important thing is that through all of the ups and downs I still had a net loss, still fit in a smaller size than when I strated and am now going in the right direction to goal. Next challenge I will set a more realistic goal and since I know myself and my weight loss pattern better, I hope to be more successful. Leigha, congrats! It has been very encouraging to follow you through this journey.

No weight loss...will they still give me a fill?
patsal replied to rpm2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't see why they wouldn't give you a fill. The band only works when it is used properly and to use it properly requires getting you to restriction. -
No additiaonal weight loss. Got my fill today so that should help. I will not make my goal, but maybe a pound or two more would be good.

Try cutting those dime sized pieces in half and putting your fork down between bites and chew, chew, chew. What you decribe is how I feel after I have eaten too much too fast. Slow down a bit as your meal should take almost 30 minutes to consume.

The scale is not moving and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I was ok, not thrilled, but ok being a slow loser of 1 pound per week, but now I am not even getting that. A little background. Got a fill in June, it ended up being too tight, suffered for 3 weeks struggling to get down Water and not able to eat solids. Got a little taken out, went back in three weeks with no wieght loss. Dr. thought I needed more out, took the full amount of the fill out plus an extra .25 cc. Went on vacation, followed the plan and had a few ice creams--heck it was disney for 2 weeks--I lost 4 pounds with all the extra walking, plus using the gym like I do at home. Been home 2 weeks, I have no restriction, I can gulp a full bottle of water all at once, and am eating from a regular sized dinner plate--before I was using a saucer. I ahve lost no weight. I am concerned because 1. I am not losing weight, 2. I have no restriction (could I be hurting the band?) and 3. I want to be successful. Appointment on 9-1, I will be asking for a fill, but how do I know where to go? Back to where I was before the last fill for sure...that would be back to 5cc in a 10 cc band. At that point I was a little restricted but felt like I was still able to eat too much, able to gulp liquid, etc. I'm thinking about asking for .4, enough to take me to where I was (5cc) plus the little bit (.15) I needed when they gave me the .5 that was too much? To clarify 5cc was too little, 5.5 was too much, and 5.25 was too much. I thought if I got it right it would be smooth sailing into the holidays, if not the risk of overeating is higher. Since June 12th I have only lost 4 pounds.

Well, almost a year and lost no more weight
patsal replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So consider this posting of yours as a restart. Do a 14 day preop diet to purge the carbs from your system and then move to mushies, and finally whole foods, don't get fooled Next, check your restriction, IF you need more, get a fill. Don't be duped into thinking that you have no restiction if you are eating mostly high cal/high carb slider foods. Dense protien will make you feel full and should keep you from experiencing hungar for hours at a time. Good luck! -
Anyone drop a shoe size?
patsal replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went from a 10W to a straight up 9. I'm not quite halfway so I am expecting more and buying less in the area of shoes as a result! Funny, because I figured I'd be safe buying shoes, but I wasn't! -
Wow, Congrats, that is great! Hooray for you! I cannot wait until I get there and I am so looking foreward to being just one pound less than my DH!
-
My DH has gout and takes a daily prescribed med to keep the purines (I think that is how it is spelled!) under control. He steers clear of wild game, organ meats and asparagus. His med is called Allopurinol and he takes 300 mg daily. Since being on this med he has had no attacks. Good luck, from what I see when he has had an attack it is so painful.

Steri stips came off in shower today and...
patsal replied to jingleboob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it more like the goo from a wet scab where the shower water was trapped under the steri strip? Mine was like that and the Dr. said to just use some peroxide on a qtip to help dry it back down again. -
I've been slow and steady at about 1 pound per week until about June when the loss came to a crazy halt! I have lost about 4 pounds in the last two and a half months and I am not happy at all. Heading to the Dr. soon so a fill is in line, resumed journaling all my food and discovered a sever protein deficiet. I am dragging it back on track, but this is way slower than I expected! Thinking now about all the weight I can have off by Christmas--hopefully I will be in Onederland--that is my goal! Looking back to exactly a year ago...I was in a size 24/26 and in misery. I am now a comfortable 16P--no more "W" after my number, thank you! I exercise nearly every day and have been taken off about half of my meds and the ones that are left the doses have been changed. Moving from a very unstructured summer vacation mode to the structure that comes with the school year should help. Good luck everyone!
