I have spent the majority of my life fighting my weight, but after high school it careened out of control. At that point I began trying all of the different diets. I did weight watchers repeatedly, LA weight loss, and a medically supervised program at my local hospital. All of these programs worked, for awhile. My problem always seemed to be that when I did make the wrong choice, I would eat way to much. I don't know that I have ever really felt full. People have talked about that feeling of discomfort and not being able to move after Thanksgiving dinner and I could always stuff more down. I always thought surgery was like giving up, but I also knew that I didn't want to be the mom from "What's eating Gilbert Grape". I lost 50 lbs on the medically supervised diet at the local hospital but it was so repetative and so expensive that I had to stop. I gained all 50 lbs back within 8 months and I knew I had to try something different. I spent lots of time on the internet researching all of the different weight loss options. I read lots of stories about people who had been banded and I thought that it might be the answer. I did some praying and some questioning and some more research and made my decision. I am now 3 weeks post op and have totally changed my tune about surgery. This is nothing like giving up, this is like starting over.
