My sister and I started this journey together over a year ago.  She ended up paying for her's because insurance would not cover it and had her surgery in October 2008 with Malley Surgical.  My insurance was through Aetna and covered all but the $1000 out of pocket expense.  My insurance required me to go through KC Bariatric Center of Excellence through Shawnee Mission.  I completed all the pre-approvals and had my surgery Jan 6th 2010.  It took about 4 months of pre-op planning to acheive that goal.  I am glad however that they prepared me as well as they did for the life style changes I have ahead of me.  I am encouraged by my sister's success, she has lost 100 pounds in one year after her surgery and has done well.  Another coworker of mine has lost 80 pounds in a year.I'm  hoping I too can be another success story.  It was hard watching my sister lose weight while I continued to struggle on my own to try to keep it off.  I really finally lost my will power all together until I got closer to the surgery date.
