Hypothyroidism all this time???
twyla420 replied to Kristy29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have grave's...which is from hyperthyroid. At first I lost, then gained a bunch. My weight went up and down. Surgery...the band has helped so much...and I make sure to get my levels checked every 4 mths. I take my meds like I should(most of the time) which really helps. Having a thyroid disease can cause your weight to go up or down...whether your hypo or hyper. Everyone is different. -

Does it hurt when you get a FILL????
twyla420 replied to samanthea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my first fill last week. I was so worked up over it, but I gathered my courage and went for it. I can honestly say...I didn't feel a thing. She numbed it with a small shot...which didn't even burn. It was over in less than a minute and I was on my way. I had to do two days of liquids followed by two days of mushies. Never had any issues with it and I do feel tighter....back in the green zone and very happy:-) -
I journal everyday. I find I forget what all I've eaten in a day...and will think to myself, I've not really eaten that much today. When, I journal, I can look and see what I've eaten and it helps me to make better choices. It holds me accountable. I don't count calories, or protein...etc. I just jot down on paper what I'm having and it only takes a few seconds. It's like a habit now and doesn't feel like a chore. My diet isn't perfect…I still have chocolate cravings, or eat a few chips here and there. It helps me see how my weight reacts to what I've eaten the last few days. Then I can make adjustments.

Thanks....I can't wait to try it. I love squash and I did try the spaghetti squash a few years ago and loved it. -

Spring into March 2010 Bandsters
twyla420 replied to NYSparklegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm still lurking around. Had my surgery March 24 and am still on track. I'm now able to eat about half a cup of food each meal. I've had no Pbing or stuck issues. But I have had some hair loss already. Last week I thought I'd try some extensions to add volume to my hair. Well, don't do it...my hair fell out by the handful and now I am having to buy a lace wig. I know I'm getting good protein everyday and I knew going into the band journey that this could happen. I was told my hair will probably come back so I hope that's true. But I also have a thyroid issue, so it may not. Oh well...we shall see. I'll just buy me some nice hair and enjoy being thinner. -
just how hard is the pre op diet?????
twyla420 replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know. I was allowed to eat veggies and one healthy meal a day on my pre op diet. I have to admit I cheated a few times. But I wouldn't recommend doing that as I've heard stories that it could mess up your surgery. Luckily it didn't for me, but I also didn't eat high fat foods. My problem was always the amount of food I'd eat. My advice is to take it a day at a time. Ask your doctor what you can eat if you can't stay on liquids only. Maybe you can have low fat food, such as veggies. -

WTG! You're doing great:thumbup: -
I do the P90x arms and shoulders video. I have noticed a difference the last few weeks.

You got to move it, move it.
twyla420 replied to karmaandkismet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started walking/jogging on the treadmill and do that three to four times a week. I also do the P90X arms and shoulders video a few times a week. I also like yoga. Just a few days ago I've started having pain in my port area...so I'm toning it down to just walking on the treadmill for now. I'm a little upset as I'd just started week two of the couch to 5k program. So, I'm a bit peeved that is being interrupted by my port pain. I don't want to have to start all over with my running. But, I guess as long as I am still moving and walking...I'll keep dropping weight. -
How is your life different post-op?
twyla420 replied to sb01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon added 4cc. to my band on the day I was banded, so I've had great restriction from day one. From what I've heard...everyone is different and the first few months is about finding the green zone. Where you eat small portions, and are able to control hunger. When my family sits down for a meal...it's still the same. I just eat from a saucer plate instead of a big dinner plate. Since I chew slow and take thirty minutes to eat... I'm usually the last one eating. It's crazy how much I was able to consume in just ten minutes before I was banded. If you'd like my advice...get into the routine of things. Write everything you eat down in a food journal. Establish an exercise routine. Start slow and work up to where you'd like to be. The only speed too slow is standing still, so just start it and keep at it. For me...eating around the same times everyday also has helped with my weight loss. -
How do people on The Biggest Loser lose so much weight?
twyla420 replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes, when life gets so busy, I break up my workouts into two 10-15 minute sessions a day. I get up ten minutes early ...hit the treadmill and then take 10 minutes before my bath at night and do it again. That way I feel I've done something that day. It all adds up. Also, you don't have to do cardio everyday to get a workout. I walk/jog three times a week and do yoga/ stretch three times a week. So, I work out six days a week and rest on day seven. I've read that a day of rest is so important. -
fills....banded march 24th

fills....banded march 24th
twyla420 replied to darkangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on March 24th too. Congrats on your loss. I went for my first fill last week. But I didn't need one. They said that I was losing at a good rate. I can only eat about 1/4 - 1/3 cup at a time, so they didn't want to mess with that. Yes, I eat every 2-3hrs. but they said as long as I'm losing and I'm not having issues with getting stuck of Pb-ing…I was doing okay. I've had no issues. If you don't feel you need a fill, just go and speak with them anyways. You'll be encouraged and can always make another appointment in a few weeks. There isn't a hurry. You're doing great! -
"It's only a Tool" scares me
twyla420 replied to HAL380's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyday...I still have choices. I choose to eat healthy foods that will fill me up and keep my body going. I choose to get on the treadmill and get my exercise. Before the band...I was the pasta queen. I ate pasta several times a week and I'd eat several helpings. Since the band...I do not even like the taste of pasta. I don't miss it at all. That blows my mind. The band for me has been life changing in that it really does make it easier to choose the right foods. I've past up so much junk since I was banded and I could have never done that before the band. I know I can only eat a little bit per meal...so I eat my protein and veggies...then I'm satisfied. After that I don't even think of food until hunger hits again. Before the band...I would constantly think what I could eat that day. I was eating myself to death. Now, I eat just enough to live. Food is no longer in control. The band has given me better control, and I couldn't be happier. There are a few times I've have something sweet. Chocolate for me is a must during PMS. But I only have a tiny bit. I get the dark chocolate and just getting a few tastes now satisfies me. I don't have to eat a King sized candy bar to fill I've had a dessert. -
Anybody wish they HADN'T done it?
twyla420 replied to mimirae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No...I don't have any regrets. I do wish I'd done this years ago. I've been overweight my entire life. The band is the first thing that really does not make me feel deprived. I can finally eat small amounts, like my skinny friends do, and feel satisfied. I don't miss feeling stuffed and miserable. -
:thumbup:Awesome! Sounds like you'll reach your goal. Keep it up!

Congrats on your weight loss. I'm so happy you're doing great! You sound so happy. I am too...it's been a month for me and I'm so proud I had this done. I don't know why I waited so long. I had second thoughts after reading some posts on here, but I don't regret for a minute having the band. I know it's early on, but I feel if I keep a positive attitude and do my part...the band will do its. So far, it's working for me.

What do you normally have for breakfast?
twyla420 replied to gingerjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have either an egg (usually hard fried with a bit of Pam) or a Morning star sausage patty or some cottage cheese. -
Dr. Richard Benavides - Dr. Benavides, Surgery Center of Richardson
twyla420 replied to hdmdavid's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. B put my band in a month ago. He seemed very caring and his nurses where great. I did have a problem with the people who schedule the surgery. It took all week calling and leaving messages. I finally called the after care people and told them my issues and someone called me back and got me scheduled. I would recommend you show up in person and make an appointment. Don't take no for an answer. -
I was home a few hours after surgery. I don't like hospitals, as I can never rest good. All I wanted to do was sleep the first night, and walk around the house, when I was awake. I think it just depends on your health and the doctor.

I just started this program today...I did the shoulders and arms video. Great stuff!
