Support Groups in Coconut Creek Area
Boca replied to Denise J Trujillo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just saw your post. I live nearby and would love to be in touch with you. I was banded on 5/10 I'm also having a hard time. -
You and I must be twins. I'm wearing a size 16 and I've lost 55 pounds. I hear that you can lose the same amount the following year. Who knows?

Begging for you help!, Please help
Boca replied to Suznty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try going on liquids for a day or so. This is not my idea but I've heard it from others and done it myself. It might help tighten you up again. I'm 7.65 in a 10 band and I'm fine. Not losing weight like crazy but I'm going to stay here for the while. I don't know how much you've lost but if you are feeling that hungry then you are and a little bit more might be all you need. I went from 7.4 (so hungry) to 8. (lasted a day) and then decided to split the amount to 7.65 where I am today. If I needed to I would go higher. What if 8.5cc is perfect for you? or 8.6?? My doctor said you can go to 11cc in the 10cc band. Let me know how you do. -

Reflux when laying down to sleep
Boca replied to hransom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to stop eating and drinking 3 hours before you go to sleep. Add more pillows to your bed. I use two under my head and hug one. You can't drink anything!! If you need to then rinse your mouth but that's it. It's the drinking and eating that does this. Try this first and see if it works then get an unfill. -

I am 7.6 and doing well. I am almost 8 months banded. I need to eat very carefully but I'm not hungry and doing well. I'm close to 50 pounds down. Soon I'm going to be in the l00's. Can't wait. Try to get your fills as much as you can and then work with them. Drink slowly for 2-4 days. Add food very slowly. You'll get there.

Can you have a hernia and not know it??
Boca replied to zeniada's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guess what you should hope you have a hernia because your insurance will most likely cover that and you'll pay half of what you would have paid. 8,000 for me instead of $15,000. They split the cost of a lot of the stuff. -
Discouraged - Don't think I was ready for the band
Boca replied to Ms_C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please keep in contact with me. I need you. I was banded on 5/4/10. I weighted 256 and pre-op I was 245. My last visit was about 2 weeks ago and I was 228. Do the math--we are in the same boat. I happen to like to exercise and do so 6 days a week. Zumba, low-impact whatever. I also am trying my best. I was filled up to 7.5-I got sick and went down to 7.2 and even here I can eat. I am a hungry girl. I try very hard not to cheat. I eat a small plate full--I do mean full 3x a day and I drink and eat fruit, ice-pops and sucking candy. It is so hard. I went for metabolic testing in my office and guess what? I have a slow metabolism. So that means it's just too bad. My doctor said it's just 1-2 pounds a week and that's just the average. When I went to the doctors and heard people say that they lost 40 pounds the first year I thought not me. I was going to lose 25 pounds every 3 months and stick to a schedule. Well that didn't work. I also met a woman who lost 50 pounds the first year, and 50 the second year and kept it off the 3rd year. I would love to hear more from you. I plan to try to work at this some more before I get another fill. Honestly at 7.2 I am shocked at how well I can eat. I ate an entire cantaloupe yesterday between meals. I also ate 2 protein bars and crackers, and sherbet. All my meals were good size meals. Today I was better. All I know is I would never lose this weight myself with no band. -
How can I get more protein?
Boca replied to Twinkles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check your shakes they come in all different kinds of protein amounts. The greek yogurt is 20 grams, a stick of string cheese which you can melt in your mouth is 8 grams, humus, refried beans, etc. all have protein and is under the soft food area. Also eggs, tuna fish with mayo etc. I can do 30 grams by 11 in the morning. But I am a hungry girl. -
The foam and slime is coming because you are not drinking. Water--room temp or warm, very very slowly. Make it an hour to drink a cup. You will begin to feel better. Try that. And don't get upset, relax because that tightens your chest. Walk around while you drink. Stand up.

If you ate the chicken and got sick I would not be surprised. You need to be on liquids for 2 days after a fill and soft foods for additional 2 days. On the 5 day you can begin to eat other food.

How painful was your surgery on a scale of 1-10
Boca replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took gas-x in the hospital. I bought it in and took myself. I never had gas pain. Don't tell them. It's over the counter and not going to do a thing to you. I had no pain. None. I was just sore when I took a deep breath. I had it 5/4 and I'm 56.
