I just saw your post. I live nearby and would love to be in touch with you. I was banded on 5/10 I'm also having a hard time.
  2. You and I must be twins. I'm wearing a size 16 and I've lost 55 pounds. I hear that you can lose the same amount the following year. Who knows?
  3. Try going on liquids for a day or so. This is not my idea but I've heard it from others and done it myself. It might help tighten you up again. I'm 7.65 in a 10 band and I'm fine. Not losing weight like crazy but I'm going to stay here for the while. I don't know how much you've lost but if you are feeling that hungry then you are and a little bit more might be all you need. I went from 7.4 (so hungry) to 8. (lasted a day) and then decided to split the amount to 7.65 where I am today. If I needed to I would go higher. What if 8.5cc is perfect for you? or 8.6?? My doctor said you can go to 11cc in the 10cc band. Let me know how you do.
  4. You need to stop eating and drinking 3 hours before you go to sleep. Add more pillows to your bed. I use two under my head and hug one. You can't drink anything!! If you need to then rinse your mouth but that's it. It's the drinking and eating that does this. Try this first and see if it works then get an unfill.

  6. I am 7.6 and doing well. I am almost 8 months banded. I need to eat very carefully but I'm not hungry and doing well. I'm close to 50 pounds down. Soon I'm going to be in the l00's. Can't wait. Try to get your fills as much as you can and then work with them. Drink slowly for 2-4 days. Add food very slowly. You'll get there.
  7. Guess what you should hope you have a hernia because your insurance will most likely cover that and you'll pay half of what you would have paid. 8,000 for me instead of $15,000. They split the cost of a lot of the stuff.
  8. Please keep in contact with me. I need you. I was banded on 5/4/10. I weighted 256 and pre-op I was 245. My last visit was about 2 weeks ago and I was 228. Do the math--we are in the same boat. I happen to like to exercise and do so 6 days a week. Zumba, low-impact whatever. I also am trying my best. I was filled up to 7.5-I got sick and went down to 7.2 and even here I can eat. I am a hungry girl. I try very hard not to cheat. I eat a small plate full--I do mean full 3x a day and I drink and eat fruit, ice-pops and sucking candy. It is so hard. I went for metabolic testing in my office and guess what? I have a slow metabolism. So that means it's just too bad. My doctor said it's just 1-2 pounds a week and that's just the average. When I went to the doctors and heard people say that they lost 40 pounds the first year I thought not me. I was going to lose 25 pounds every 3 months and stick to a schedule. Well that didn't work. I also met a woman who lost 50 pounds the first year, and 50 the second year and kept it off the 3rd year. I would love to hear more from you. I plan to try to work at this some more before I get another fill. Honestly at 7.2 I am shocked at how well I can eat. I ate an entire cantaloupe yesterday between meals. I also ate 2 protein bars and crackers, and sherbet. All my meals were good size meals. Today I was better. All I know is I would never lose this weight myself with no band.
  9. Check your shakes they come in all different kinds of protein amounts. The greek yogurt is 20 grams, a stick of string cheese which you can melt in your mouth is 8 grams, humus, refried beans, etc. all have protein and is under the soft food area. Also eggs, tuna fish with mayo etc. I can do 30 grams by 11 in the morning. But I am a hungry girl.

The foam and slime is coming because you are not drinking. Water--room temp or warm, very very slowly. Make it an hour to drink a cup. You will begin to feel better. Try that. And don't get upset, relax because that tightens your chest. Walk around while you drink. Stand up.

If you ate the chicken and got sick I would not be surprised. You need to be on liquids for 2 days after a fill and soft foods for additional 2 days. On the 5 day you can begin to eat other food.
  12. I took gas-x in the hospital. I bought it in and took myself. I never had gas pain. Don't tell them. It's over the counter and not going to do a thing to you. I had no pain. None. I was just sore when I took a deep breath. I had it 5/4 and I'm 56.

    Hello from NYC!

I used this practice also. And UpperEastSide was someone I had made contact with. I came from Florida to use Dr. Kurian. This practice has a lot-First go to smartbanders on Yahoo.com and join that group. Second go to the Wednesday night support group from this practice. It's usually the 3 Wed. call the office to find out when. Second you have the dietitian Rachel forever and she does workshops once a month and they are great. Make sure that Tammy the patient support person has your name and e-mail. What a practice!! There is so much going on there. Tammy is out until mid August but you can contact the office staff and get going. I wish I lived in NYC to take advantage of all of the stuff they do. I went to everything while I was there. I fly in and out (my kids live in the N.Y. area). Your in great hands. Use the office and all that they offer.
  14. I was so sick with that. Go to Walgreens and buy their stool softner and take that everyday with crystal lite and you'll be good to go. Ha Ha. That did it for me. I had my surgery 5/4 and I use it 2-3 time a week now. Good luck.
  15. Lazy me. I bought a box of muscle milk light from Costco. Done.

    The truth about me...

You need to check out the above website or go to a doctor that can physically help you. That injury might have done something to your brain. Other that than men almost totally do not have friends. It's almost a myth that they do. I've only seen guy friendships on TV. My husband doesn't nor do any of my friends husbands. They get together when we get together. When my husband plays tennis together with other guys that's it. Ladies, lunch, go shopping together, talk on the phone. Not happening with the guys. Not in my family or among my friends. I don't know if they are too lazy to do it or what. So I am glad that you have a woman in your life and that seems to work for a lot of guys.

Okay by now you know that you need to take some out but here's what to do until then. Go with warm water or tea. Don't drink in the morning. Sip a tiny bit slowly. If you can't sip slowly get a child's sippy cup and use that. That's it for the day. Try to add a room temp. shake later on in the day. 12:00-2:00. Again drink it very slowly. Do this for 2 days. Then add some greek yogurt the next day. 1/4 teaspoon at a time. Just touch it to the yogurt and then put it in your mouth. The more water you get into you the less bubbles and slime. I'm filled 7.5 in a normal 10cc band. I went to 8 and had them take out .5 right away. I can eat now-fish etc. but I'm going to have them remove some again because I'm getting reflux at night. Until you go to the doctor realize that you still can take your vitamins and you can drink so you aren't going to fall over. Think of it as a crash diet until he can unfil you. Good luck.
  19. I really gave up meat. Veggie burgers, eggplant, humus does great. all kinds of fish as well. I have reflux at night so I will get a tiny unfill. I'm at 7.5 . I never eat junk.
  20. I am with you. I can't believe I'm not losing more. I had my surgery 5/4 and was then 245 (256 before the pre-op diet) and now I'm at 230. I am filled to 7.5 and eating very little. I'm having reflux at night so I will have a unfill on Monday when I see my doctor. I am at the gym 6 days a week. Zumba, strength training, etc. I can believe it's so slow. I had them do a metabolic test on me and mine is slow. Well no surprise there. The doctor suggested adding flax seed and flax seed oil and strength training. All of which I've done. I eat fish and more fish. I am having 60 grams of protein a day. Morning-greek yogurt with flax seed (20) lunch- fish (10) dinner fish (10) Finish eating by 6 then I have a shake (14) and a zone bar (14) I follow all the rules and stop eating and drinking by 8:00 Any thoughts out there.

    My Dr. is Fill Happy

Believe it or not sometimes you have a fill in there already. You might want to ask about that. I was shocked to find that my surgeon had put in 2cc during the surgery and I thought I asked all the questions I could. I went up to 3 1/2 for my first fill. Then I did another shorty after. Recapping that was 5.5,then 6.5 and lastly 7.5. I enjoy the fills. The hunger is gone and you eat so little it will shock you. I am going to get a slight unfill this Monday because I am getting reflux at night and that's got to stop however otherwise I'm staying with this. Here's what to do-Follow the rules. Drink slowly--don't eat for 2 days. Add yogurt and soup and stuff like that for 2 days. I also don't drink or eat at least 2 hours before going to sleep. I don't drink an hour before and after eating. Go with fish, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. Good luck.
  22. I was banded at NYU by Dr. Kurian on 5/4. I'm always amazed by all the different "rules". I'm allowed 2 shakes a day. I use Muscle Milk light, and all the liquid, broth etc I want. The soups like Pacific and Imagine are organic and sold in a box are very good. I watch the calories on them but they are a wonderful addition to your diet. Drinking really helps. If I feel hungry it works wonders. I can't believe we are on the other side of waiting for the surgery. I am on this liquid diet for 10 days. On Friday I go to the doctor and then I start my second 10 days and go to the yogurt, humus, applesauce phase. And then FOOD. As a mother's day gift my daughter-in-law made me Granny Smith applesauce which is in my freezer waiting for me. How nice.

    one week post-op

I had the surgery on 5/4 with Dr. Kurian at NYU. 5 women and 2 men had it also on that day. We all had a meeting the following morning with a nurse to go over all the rules. Everything went wonderfully. I have been feeling really well. I've never been in pain and at most I've been sore. Can't believe the hunger is gone and I'm eating so little. I also can't believe that my stomach is so big. I tried to put on the skirt I wore to the hospital and it just went over my hips. It's getting better but I still look like I swallowed a watermelon. Going to the Dr. Friday for a follow-up. I'm so happy to be on the other side of the operation.
