Hello Nancyinthenorth, I am starting my 2 week pre-op next wednesday and I am excited and nervous at the same time. I am more excited, but I am nervous because I won't be able to eat anything, and I have great support at home but I don't expect them to do the 2 week liquid diet with me. I mean they are going to be eating , I am going to be cooking for them, my boyfriend doesn't cook much, and we have 2 kids that will need to eat as well with him, and so I will be having all that temptation in front of me but it's a good way to show how strong i can be, so I am looking forward to showing everyone that I can do this, and I will beat this obesity thing!!! Good luck on your journey and I hope that we can help each other in the future!!!

have a question for you all. I had the lapband back in 2010 and had to have it removed in 2011 and so I just recently decided to have gastric bypass, but when I went to my doctor he gave me the option of having the gastric sleeve, I am not sure which is the better option for me. I want to see if anyone out there has had one of the other and can tell me what they are happy about and why they had one or the other?
-
Hi yocolefleet I have all the same things except sleep apnea. I have a severe case of acid reflux and it is awful!!! I hate it!!! I had the band already and it has been removed. I am very sure what I want now and I totally believe in my decision now more than I did when I started my research!!!! Thanks for the advice!!!
-
Thanks MissM see and that's what I don't want is to go threw the sleeve then have that not work for me and then go back and have a 3rd surgery??? I am just getting the bypass!!! I have decided its the best thing for me!!!!

Stuck - bypass vs. band
pupichupi replied to PrincessErin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is a choice you and only you can make, but I am a post banded person and I am on my way to get the bypass done because I had to have the band removed due to complications, and I wasn't told some of the things that I know now after doing much more research due to going to have the bypass done, that you have got to be super conscious on what your eating one the band and you have got to eat healthy or it's not going to work for you, as you can eat a cookie with the band and as long as you chew it up enough and don't drink with it, it's still going to go through. After my surgery with the band I could still eat a 6" subway veggie grinder? I didn't plan on it, but it happened??? I didn't have any filling at that point but that hole is still really small without the fill too??? You have to decide what is best for you? Good luck!!! -
You know what it sounds to me like you have done a great job of doing what you set out to do on the surgery, so my suggestions to you is that maybe it's time to let the cat out of the bag and let the people that your close to know. You shouldn't have to stress about going to dinner with friends or meeting with family and worried if they will find out. You have done this for yourself and who cares if they don't approve after it's already done, they have seen the results obviously. I think now you can just be like here I am and this is what I had to do to get my health in order, and if you don't approve well it's not your life and I am sure everyone will accept the fact that you did it, cause they love you, and they want to support you, but man I give you big props for doing it all on your own. That's insane, I had the lapband surgery prior to me now going in to have the bypass, and I remember how that was and I can only imagine how much worse this one will be and so I think your pretty amazing and I don't even know you!!! You do you, no worries about what others think!!!!

OK good so its not everyone!!! I am hoping when I lose the weight there will be more sex and some freaky sex too!!! Lol cause I weight too Much to do the fun stuff now???
-
Man I am not sure what to say about this sex thing, I don't want to loose the urge to have a sex life with my hubby!!! I hope for you all that you can figure this one out!!!
-
TinyMamiOf3kids, so you didn't lose your sex drive till you got to where you are now, or is it just cause your seperated?
-
Wow, so I didn't hear this??? I know I don't have any sex drive now, like I could care less about sex right now. I haven't had my surgery yet, my date is set for March 5th so maybe this will be something that I have to talk to my doctor about next week. Have either of you spoke to your bariatric physician about this? I would like to know?

Hi Wallflower, boy your story about your parents sounds like mine. I don't blame you, but at this point if that is the way they are going to be do you really want to tell them before your surgery? I'm not telling either of my parents. My Husband is taking me to the hospital and picking me up, I am not dealing with my mom and dad, specially cause I had my mom at my lapband surgery and she just was all negative about having the surgery and not that I am doing the gastric bypass I can only imagine how she is going to be. I don't want negative, I need positive, and my husband is basically the only person that knows. I am not even telling our kids at this point cause my kids have big mouths, and I don't want my daughter telling my mom, she is very close to my mom and I know she will spill it. So i am just keeping it to me and my husband and then from there I will move on. I am just ready, My tentative surgery date is march 5th and it could possibly be moved up, just waiting on my doctors office. I will find out more next Tuesday. So anyway do you, don't worry about who gives you the guilt trip, tell them that it was a surprise that you wanted to surprise everyone with your weight loss? Don't worry about your house too, if your husband and friends are as supportive as they sound then they will be there to back you up, and help with those things that you can do for a little bit. When I had my lapband surgery the only day I had a problem was that first day after surgery, because they fill your belly up with air and they can't get it all out after so you get gas pockets in your belly but get some gas x strips or melts, and you will do fine. Your going to do great, just have faith in yourself, and that's all that matters is you not everyone else!!!

Things are not as they appear

Betternowthanever you do look amazing and just congrats on your success I am going to follow your lead and do everything I can to get to where I want to be too!!! You did an amazing job and you are my inspiration!!! Thank you for posting your story!!! -
BrandNewBrandy, I know that you feel that telling people is the right way to go, but I guess it's also the person having the surgery's own opinion as to tell or not. Maybe there are other circumstances for not saying anything. I know I have my own reasons for keeping it to myself, and I will not be telling anyone that I do not want to know till I am ready. I just feel I don't want everyone to know till I know that I have things under control and I can explain to the ones I want that I am doing the best thing for me. As my work people we are a small company and they are all very thin and healthy and they just wouldn't understand my reasoning. I am the only one here that has a problem with my weight and health problems, they are all very uptight people and they are just weird. So those are some of the reasons I have decided to go on the route of not telling people. I feel this isn't a process I need people to help me get through its a process for me to get myself through, and I love being able to come on here and talk to people and get ideas, and what not but that is cause you all are not judgemental cause of the fact that you have all had it done, and have been through all the challenges I have and that bigloser2014 has been through so I can feel at ease and comfortable on here, but when it comes to everyone else, that is just not the way it's going to happen. This is my battle not anyone elses.

Emeree, I know how you feel, and to hide it really sucks, but you know what don't worry about how much you eat, and if you want to keep it a secret after they see you, then just tell them it's your new way of eating, portion control. That's what I am going to do. I just don't want to be criticized!!! I know I can't do this without the surgery, as I have tried so many times and failed, so this will force me to do it the right way and I will and I know you can too!!! Use the next 6 Months to get yourself together and don't worry what they all say cause you did this for you and your life no one else!!!
-
Bigloser2014, I am in the same spot as you, as the only person that knows I am having the surgery is My fiance, I didn't even tell my kids cause I don't want them to worry, but they also have very big mouths. I do not want anyone knowing cause I am always had a fear of failing. I always feel like I am the outcast of the family and no one approves of anything I do. So I just would rather keep this to myself. There is only one other person we have told which is our best friend, and I know he wouldn't say anything to anyone, so this is the way we are keeping it till I can prove to myself I am not a failure!!!!
