    Newbie Here! Banded 9-10-10

Well, I was banded on the 13th and I don't have the gas pain or the shoulder pain but I am trying to walk as much as I can. I go back to work on Tuesday and I am scared to do that because sitting at a desk on the phone all day makes it easy to just graze at whatever might be available.
  2. I'm so excited! I got (what I hope is my last) surgery date yesterday! Sept 13, the day before my birthday! I hope this one goes off without a hitch!
  3. Well, I should have had my surgery today but last Thursday my Dr's office called to say that they needed to cancel my surgery because they got my labs back and myTriglycerides were over 800 and I needed to get them down before they can re-schedule my surgery. Does anyone know how to lower them quickly?

  6. I go in on 8/2 for my second attempt at getting my band and I can't wait. I just hope that this time I do not wake up from my surgery to hear my surgeon say, "Sorry, we were not able to place your band". Though I am mostly optimistic about this surgery, there is a little bit of doubt that it may not work again or what if I fail at this too! I mean I have been on a thousand diets and they worked but I gained it back. I realize this is a tool and I need to change my life and I am ready. I hear all these people talk about the band does not work and they have only lost like 15 lbs and they are barely eating anything but I never hear them say that they have gone to gym, gotten on bike, treadmill or even taken their dog for a walk. I know that it takes more than just eating less. It is the whole package and I AM READY!! :smile2:

    2 Weeks pre-op

Well, good luck to you all. I am having another surgery to be banded on 8/2 as the 1st one was not put in. I do not have to do a pre-op diet, which I am glad for. I am so ready to have this surgery over with. I started this journey in Jan and wish that the band was placed in May (too much abdominal scar tissue). Make sure to update the site and good luck!
  8. Well, I am having a 2nd surgery to place my band on Aug 2nd. My 1st was April 3rd and I had too much scar tissue so they had to bring them down and then wait a couple of months to heal. I have all the same scars though, so it looks like I had the surgery but there was no band when I woke up! But I can't wait for Aug to get here. Although, I have lost 10 lbs since my surgery which was just a little more than I gained before my surgery!! Good luck to all of you!
  9. So after my last banding fiasaco 2 weeks ago I got my new surgery date. 8/2/2010. I hope that there are no problems this time and everything goes off without a hitch! I guess now I am a August Bandster! Anyone else out there?? :smile2:
  10. I have had 4 previous abdominal surgeries and on 5/3/10 attempted to have my lap band but I had too much scar tissue. So my surgeon cleaned up the scar tissue and now I have to wait for that to heal and attempt my surgery again on 8/2/10.

    Got my new date

Thanks for the support. I have a great surgeon and the office staff is great too! My Dr assures me that I will get my band with the next surgery. The only reason why they could not band me the last time is to make sure that the band did not cause an infection. I have faith that everything will turn out great! Right? I am glad to hear that we will start to change our lives in the same month. Good Luck!!
  12. So, I am going into surgery to have my Lap Band on 5/3 or so I thought. When I woke up in recovery I was told I had too much scar tissue to clean up and in order to not cause infection from a "foreign body" I would have another surgery in 2 months to get the band put in. I was just released from the hospital today. This is so discouraging! I was so ready to start my new life. This is just another little bump in the road to my ultimate goal of being healthy. Thanks 4 reading! :bored: Daryl

    Looking for May Bandsters

:cool2:To all my fellow May Bandsters: Had my surgery on 5/3 and woke up in recovery to hear my DR say, "I am so sorry, but we were not able to band you today. You had too much scar tissue on stomach and bowel. We had to clean you out and now we have to wait for you to heal for 2 months and then we can try this again"!! REALLY!! That stung.....AND HURT!! But I will have to wait and now be a July Bandster. Thanks for all your stories and I will keep on looking to see how everyone is doing!!

Banded 5/3 - OOPS, No Band!!

There was nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening. I had too much scar tissue from 4 previous stomach surgeries. And yes it was one of my fears, waking up in recovery to hear that I was not banded.

What does this pre-op diet consist of? My Dr. said I did not need to do one. Only clear liquids the day before surgery.

Getting my surgery May 10, 2010

I am getting banded on 5/3 and so excited....and so scared. Scared of failing! When I am at work I think of other things but at home it's all I can think about. I am ready for all the changes that come with the band though so I know it will be great! Good luck to all!!

    Hello from southern california

Hi Tracie, I am from San Clemente. Not quite as far south as Sashay and I am having my surgery in 7 days. I am 38, 5'7" and weigh 237. It wasn't until last week I realized just how ready I was for this life change. All of my friends and co-workers as all thin, small & cute. I have never shared my weight with ANYONE. EVER! I was talking to my boss last week about all these changes that I will be going through and I found myself telling her my true weight. And then on the same day, I also told my best friend. That is when I realized that I am completly dedicated to loosing this weight, getting healthier and taking control of my life. For me, this was my 1st step. I have been making myself crazy recently about the what if's? What if the band slips, or erodes into my stomach or I don't loose anything, but.....what if I don't have the surgery, what happens then. I have gained 7 lbs since January and I am a diabetic with Hypertension and a bad back with a lot of pain. And again I am only 38. So, with these health challenges that I already have, the surgery sounds like heaven to me. Good luck and I am sure that you will get your date soon. Once you get it though, don't start thinking of reasons not to get the surgery. Keep up the momentum!!
  19. Yes, May 3rd! Thank goodness. My original date was Sept 1st. UNACCEPTABLE to me. They said they had a cancellation and boom got a date of 5/3. No, no pre-op diet. WHere do you live? I live in Cali. My email address is un4getable2u@cox.net if you would like to email me directly. My name is Daryl.

  20. I live in Cali. Nice to meet you Amanda. How old r u? I am 38 and have a son who is 16.

  21. I would love to have a buddy to talk to about all this. My thoughts really drive me nuts. These next 2 weeks are going to be hell. I do not think time has ever gone so slow! hehe! my direct email is un4getable2u@cox.net. My name is Daryl. What is yours?

  22. Hello! I am sooooo excited! I am getting banded on May 3rd. I had my upper GI, chest x-ray and one on one with my surgeon yesterday. I am having my pre-op blood work tomorrow. This journey started in Jan and I realized that fighting the whole cardiac clearance thing only caused me unnecessary greif! This next 2 and a half weeks are going to be agony! You wait and wait to make a decision to do this and then once you decide to jump in with both feet you hurry up and wait some more. I am excited. energized and scared all at the same time. What if I fail? I have tried all of the diets before and lost some but ALWAYS gained it back. I realize this surgery is only a tool to help but then I wonder, what happens if I don't chew long enough or take a drink after a bite. Will I stretch out my new stomach? Will it erode into my stomach and then I have to have it removed? My mind is racing a million miles a minute. WHAT IF I FAIL?? I can't talk to anyone else about it cause they would not understand. All of my friends are all skinny and while they all support what I am doing none of them have ever had a weight problem. I would love to get down to about 150-160 which is not unreasonable for 5'7" and big boned, but I know I need to make small goals 1st. I bought a dress online a few years ago for a banquet dinner and when I put it on, I looked like a stuffed sausage. So currently my goal is to be able to wear that dress to another banquet dinner scheduled for Aug 1st. I hope & pray I can get past my fears and work this out! I will keep y'all up to date on my progress. Thanks for all the support!!

    Looking for May Bandsters

I would hate to be told I had to do a 6 month Dr supervised diet 1st. I don't understand why they make some do that. I think it is the insurance company! I had to do an orientation, nutrition class, Dr's Talk and cardiac clearance. I had my one on one with the surgeon on Tues and he told me that I did not have to do a liquid diet until the day before surgery. I started this in the middle of Jan and I thought that was a lot. I am getting banded on 5/3/10 and I am so ready to start this new journey into my new life. I wish you all the best and hope that you get your date SOON! GOOD LUCK!
  24. Because I live in San Clemente and Moan-day's are so busy at work, I have not attended. Although, once I have my surgery I plan to start attending.

    OMG! I am devistated!

I am not sure why they scheduled me so far out. They said it was the 1st available surgery opening and that was NOT with Dr LaPorte. But when I have my surgery in May, Dr LaPorte WILL be doing it. WEIRD HUH? BUT GOOD FOR ME!
