Have PCOS-considering VSG
blaqk replied to lovesthebeach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hey love, I have pcos as well and while I'm still pre-op, my nutritionist and my surgeon and I have talked extensively about what effect pcos will have on my weight loss. My surgeon for one thinks that it shouldn't have an effect on my weight loss because of my age and other factors, but my nutritionist has warned me that having pcos will make it harder - not that I wont lose the weight but that I'll have to be prepared to work harder for it. It's sort of a double edged sword though, because they've both told me that this is pretty much the only reliable way that I can lose the weight, unfortunately. -
Should I cancel my surgery? Help!
blaqk replied to karaserene1985's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You shouldn't listen to what your family or any naysayers say to try and talk you out of it, you should just look at yourself and figure out what's right for you. Remember that only about 5% of people will be successful with maintaining weight loss without some kind of surgery, but then again you could be in that 5%. I personally know someone who went to a personal trainer and a nutritionist and lost about 100 pounds and has kept it off for more than five years. However I also know that I went to a personal trainer and nutritionist for a year, and didn't lose any weight at all. It's different for everyone, so no matter what we say here you have to figure out what's going to work for you :smile1: -
congrat's on your date!

don't worry honey, it's totally normal to be a little nervous/scared. Hell my surgery is 12 weeks away and yesterday I had a huge panic attack about doing something so drastic so young, and almost called my surgeon to tell him I'd changed my mind. But this is definitely a good thing you're doing, for you and your daughter. She'll be so proud of you once you've finished this journey, and it's not an easy way out. So don't think that. You're going to be fine poppet, don't stress!

I finally got my surgery date, for the 10th of June. I had really hoped to do it in April because I have a month off of school then (i'm in my last year of university), is it crazy to be disappointed? I understand why he doesn't want to do it any sooner, he's friends with my dad and so he wants to make sure he feels totally prepared and has a really good team to do it... but still I walked away from our appointment feeling horribly disappointed about it being so far away. I guess I'd just hoped to have lost a bit of weight/be eating normally again by my birthday (July 7) and obviously want to have the surgery as soon as possible, but am I just being ridiculous?

it actually went well! It took like 1 1/2 hours and she was asking a lot of questions bout my past (I have a history of self-mutilation) and I was worried that she was going to say I couldn't get it but yay, she said I was an excellent candidate!

how was your psych eval? I have mine tomorrow (well it's after midnight to technically today) and I'm really nervous for some reason.

Hey guys, I dont get sleeved until April, but I wanted to try and do two weeks of Optifast now so that I could A) lose some weight now and  see what it will be like when I have to do it for real. Anyway my question is, I've been following it for today (three of the mousse's and two cups of veggies), and I am so hungry. Does it get easier? The hunger sort of comes and goes, but I'm hoping someone might have some tips for fighting it?

I agree with Bambi... for me if I had a piece of cheese today then tomorrow it'd be 'oh an apple surely would be okay' and then everything would landslide. Just think of it as: you don't have to do this for much longer, and you have you've done so well. Just think how proud of yourself you'll be going into surgery having totally stuck to the plan!

Best friend is trying to talk me out of surgery
blaqk replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree with everyone else, I think deep down your friend might be a bit jealous and insecure about how it's going to change your friendship. And she's als probably thinking that if you're doing something like this and she just stays the same then se's going to be left behind/she's going to look bad compared to you. Or maybe not, but I imagine if one of my friends was about my size and was going to get wls, then I'd probably be a bit jealous and such. I only had one friend not be supportive initially and that was because he thought I was just doing it so I could date hotter guys. I just sort of chuckled and reminded him that my last partner was a model, and then asked him how many model's he'd dated. Silly boy. -
I haven't had surgery yet, but I keep getting people's opinions.

Hmm I'm still pre-op but when I first brought it up with my parents they both sort of laughed it off and said I wasn't overweight enough and was too young, but since I gave them all my research they've been supportive (although I think they still don't want to talk about it really). My friends have all been amazing, they're all really excited for me and one of them has even promised to buy me a pair of short-shorts once I've lost the weight  I dont think any of them think that I've cheated, they know how hard I work to try and lose weight ad how annoyed I am at it not working
