Before May of this year, I would of never thought it would be possible for me to get the Lapband. Busy mom of three boy's ages 6-15yrs. old, and working part-time as a Pharmacy Tech. also my hard working husband who will work over 50 hrs. weekly, never thought I would ever have time for a surgery. Thankfully one of my co-workers who I was in the office with, was nice enough to talk with me...and let me know how the surgery is, and how it works. That 15 minutes changed my life! After talking to her, I called the number and decided to meet with a surgeon to discuss my options and if I should try and get the LapBand. My BMI was well over the limit, and then it was in the hands of the insurance. I would try dieting and going to the gym, but as much as I tried everything I would eat, would add to my already heavy body! I knew nothing would work, and that being heavy runs in my family. My mother is currently over 400 lbs. Waiting aprox. 2 months, was so worth the good news, that I would be approved. Things went quickly, surgery was set. My nerves were going crazy, as I was hoping this would be for the best..not only for me but my family also! I knew I could not afford to take many days off after the surgery, so I was really hoping everything will work out. Morning of the surgery, my surgeon was so patient and caring...I looked into his eyes, and he said "don't worry sweetie everything will be ok, I will take good care of you"...I will never forget that morning. I was sore afterwards, not that I couldn't handle, though. I went back to work after 6 days, and then after two weeks felt almost perfect. Things do need to change, especiallly the foods I eat. Not just the quanity. I am still adjusting to having it...but I am thankful to get this opportunity to improve my life and to live a healthier, happier life. I am going on 6 weeks since the surgery, I have lost 26 lbs. and I go for my first adustment in 4 days. I am happier, I love how people see me, and can't exactly put their finger on what is different about me...since the weight goes so naturally off. I hope to have many more great stories to tell as my journey, has just begun! :)
