I have also been a big guy. When I married my wife, I weighed about 270 lbs but it was weight I could live with as I worked out and tried to stay fit. After marriage, however, and then going on to law school, the weight came on gradually. Eventually, I found myself hovering between 330-340. I yo-yo dieted for 4-5 years, getting down to around 290-300 and then shooting back to 330-340 quickly. One graduating school, it became even more difficult. I found myself on the road doing highly stressful work 1/4 to 2/3 of every month. I gave up on working out, and all meals consisted of restaurants or fast food. That last 18 months before being banded, I completely gave up. I balooned to 381 lbs before starting my pre-op diet. Getting banded was not fun. It hurt more than I thought it would in recovery, and recovery lasted longer than I had expected. The first few days I questioned the wisdom of what I had done. But after a week, I slowly started to feel much, much better. I am glad I wasn't given the complete details on recovery as I might have been scared off of doing this. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made!
