What is happiness?
JJLaw08 replied to fatty no more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I'm not at restriction because I can eat like a horse. I also can eat any type of food, never get stuck, eat big bites, and don't chew very well. I'm looking forward to reaching restriction! -
I'm getting Banded May 6th and I am worried about vomiting!
JJLaw08 replied to Quinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Feb. 8, 2010, and I have not vomited once due to eating. I had trouble using the restroom a few weeks after surgery that made me vomit, but nothing really related to the band. I had my second fill (5 cc in my band now), and I can still eat like a horse. I don't have any problems eating anything right now so no vomiting issues. Don't worry. It is not as bad as you think . -
How long after surgery till your appetite returned?
JJLaw08 replied to JustAskinThx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine came back after about 3 or 4 weeks, but the hunger hasn't been bad. I did get hungry sometimes before I got the band, but most of the time I ate just because I wanted to. I wasn't really hungry, and it is still a struggle for me after the band. -
What do you normally have for breakfast?
JJLaw08 replied to gingerjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually eat a Protein bar. I like the Think Thin and the Jim's Permalean Peanut Butter bars. The Think Thin has like 20g of protein, and Jim's has 23g of protein. It holds me until lunch. I used to eat cereal for breakfast, but it doesn't have much protein. I will sometimes eat that for supper, but not often. -
I am 23 and was banded on Feb. 8, 2010. Everything went smoothly with the surgery. I didn't have any gas pains. My back did hurt a little right after surgery, but I think that was from lying on the operating table. I have lost 32 pounds, and I have had 2 fills. My second one was today so I have 5 cc in my Realize band. I am a little nauseous right now. I don't know if it is from drinking my protein shake or water too fast, but hopefully it will get better. Hope this helps!

Anyone struggle with nausea?
JJLaw08 replied to okiegirl79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was having kind of the same problem last week. It had been going on for a week or two. I would get nauseous after I ate supper. I don't know if it was because I ate to fast or ate to much at one sitting. I would gag a few times, and it went away. It hasn't done that this week, so hopefully it has passed. -
experiencing terrible pain in port area when bending over
JJLaw08 replied to Katy517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel. Mine still hurts sometimes when I bend over. I was banded Feb. 8 with the Realize band, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I also get a weird cramp in my lower left side. I got it this morning when I was working out. It's weird. -
Question of the day?
JJLaw08 replied to princesslaurie1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That has happened to me twice since surgery. The first time was when I started eating solid food about 5 weeks after surgery, and then after I got my first fill. I don't know what causes it, but it's bothersome. -
It's my PMS week this week, and I am dealing with head hunger as well. I feel like I am hungrier this week than the others, and I do notice I have been eating more and grazing more. I'm not at restriction yet, but the TOM has always got me.

I don't see why drinking up until you are going to eat is going to make a big difference? Liquids go right on through. I can drink right up to my meal. I don't drink during my meal (I thought it would be hard but it really isn't), and I wait about 30 minutes after to drink something.

What are you making/taking to Easter dinner
JJLaw08 replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My grandmother always cooks turkey and ham and dressing. Just like Thanksgiving! -
I just had to tell about this awesome show I saw last night called Jamie Oliver's food Revolution. Jamie is a chef from Britain, and he has come to Huntington, WV (so called the fattest city in the world) to try to help the schools feed the children healthy food not the processed crap that almost EVERY school in America feeds their children. One part of the show, Jamie went in to a class to see if the children knew the names of common veggies. They didn't even know what a potato or tomato was. I thought it was a great show, and it really opened my eyes to what food I eat.

A bit concerned with lack of appetite
JJLaw08 replied to vow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will find you. I felt the same way you did, but when I could eat soft foods, it started back. It is nothing bad though, but I do get hungry now. -
Off Topic- Did anyone watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution show last night?
JJLaw08 replied to JJLaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those "cooks" were so rude to him, and they didn't see anything wrong with what they were feeding the children. I guess the "cooks" were mad that they actually had to cook instead of sticking everything in the oven or whatever. I know that experiment was gross. I can't believe those kids would still eat that after watching it be made. I guess it does start with the parents, but our GOVERNMENT should know that what they are regulating in the schools is not doing nothing but hurting the children. -

Yep, they were like 1st graders I think. It comes on ABC if anyone wants to look it up. It's a pretty neat show. -
Do you eat 1cup of food for every meal?
JJLaw08 replied to LuvinLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not at restriction yet, so I can eat more. It's usually a lean meat and veggie. I usually do not eat a snack during the day, but if I do it is cheese stick. Since I'm not at restriction, I can eat fast and I don't have to chew well. I'm learning though. -
I am in North Alabama, and mine was $11,800 but I got a $500 discount through the hospital because I paid in full early. So the total was $11,300 which included program fee, surgeon's fee, doctor who puts you to sleep fee (can't spell it ), and up to ten fills the first year. I did have to pay some to get my ultrasound, blood work b/c I haven't met my deductible yet. The first doctor I talked with about it was going to charge $15,900 I believe, but I heard the doctor who I went with was a good one and of course was cheaper so I went with him. Hope this helps!

corn or flour tortillas???
JJLaw08 replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat flour tortillas, and I have 4.2cc in my band. They didn't bother me. I tried pizza crust, and it hurt a little. I don't chew well enough though. I am learning. -
Health care reform passed
JJLaw08 replied to kirafiki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree something needs to be done. The doctors bills, etc. for procedures are crazy. I am self-pay for the lap-band. Why did blood work and a ultrasound cost $4500.00? Luckily I only had to pay like $400 of that. Also, why did it cost me $7200 to spend a few hours at the hospital after surgery? I guess that included the OR and everything (not the surgeon's fee or other doctor fees). My mother had knee replacement a few years back, and she had to stay in the hospital like 4-5 days. The bill for that procedure was over $200,000. Of course the insurance paid for that, but still. Something needs to be done for things like this. I hope this bill does better than a lot of people think. I will pray it does. I just don't want everything to increase in price over this (like food or gas or whatever). -
worst case of hemmorhoids
JJLaw08 replied to festivus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had kinda the same problem. I wouldn't go for a week without using the bathroom. When I did, I was on the toilet for an hour or more, and I threw up. I was white as a ghost, and I had to take off work b/c I felt bad. I started taking milk of mag. and it does the job. My doctor recommends Colace so I got some of that to try. -
Health care reform passed
JJLaw08 replied to kirafiki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard this is going to give all the illegal immigrants access to healthcare (I don't know). How is that fair? Also how is it fair that they will REQUIRE everyone to have health insurance or face a fine. There are some things that are good, but is requiring everyone to have it unconstitutional? Also, what about the small businesses with 50 workers that will be required to carry insurance for their workers. Will this not increase prices on their products thus causing inflation? I don't know about you, but I don't want to give the government anymore in taxes than what they are already getting. Like I said before, I'm not into politics and I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm trying to learn why this is or isn't a good thing. So no bashing me for these questions. -
Health care reform passed
JJLaw08 replied to kirafiki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She did call, and they said it wasn't covered. She used to be included with my dad's insurance when he worked for Delphi. When he quit, they had to get new insurance. The mammogram used to be covered on her old insurance, but not now. She has all these pre-existing conditions. She has degenerative bone disease which has caused her to have a few vertebra fusions and knee and hip replacement. The insurance isn't that great even though it is through BCBS. -
Health care reform passed
JJLaw08 replied to kirafiki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Who is going to pay for all this? They said they wouldn't raise taxes, but who is going to pay? Also, what about the quality of healthcare? What about if you need treatment for something, and it takes months and months to get in with a doctor? I'm asking because I don't follow politics much. Not trying to start a fight. I don't know what will happen, but I know my mother's insurance would not cover her mamogram b/c they said it wasn't medically necessary. She is 50, and breast cancer runs in our family but it's not medically necessary. -
Dr. suddenly quits practice, did not notify me!
JJLaw08 replied to fhce13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is crazy. They should have contacted you. I went for my first fill last Tuesday, and I didn't get a call to remind me. I don't know if it is because I'm self-pay or if they expect you to keep up with it. -
I can't get my calories to where they should be, any suggestions welcome!
JJLaw08 replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about other doctors, but mine wants us to get 1000-1200 cal. a day. I've always heard your metobolism wouldn't be so good if you didn't give your body enough calories. I don't know.
