Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
morichesdonna replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hiatal hernia, too, and had the same sensation of pain in my upper chest, almost feeling like I needed to burp. My doc said that it was a gas bubble. Someone in a support group told me that bay leaf tea would help. I tried it and although it was not immediate relief, it tasted good and I no longer have that feeling. I had my surgery on the 12th. Good luck! Donna -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
morichesdonna replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Wednesday, Oct 12th. I had to be at the hospital at 8:45am. As soon as I got there, they brought me in to put on a gown and put me in one of the pre-op waiting rooms. During the time I was in there I saw several nurses (checked vitals, put in IV, etc). I also saw the anesthesiologist, the two doctors, and the bariatric coordinator from the doctor's office. My husband was with me the whole time. At about 11:30am or 12pm, they said it was my turn. I was able to walk to the OR. I was introduced to the nurses who would be in surgery, got up on the OR table, and fell asleep. I woke up in recovery. My husband had been called to come back in since I was out of surgery. As soon as a room was available, they brought me up and offered me ice chips since I was parched. I got up to go to the bathroom. They brought me down to radiology to check the band. Everything was good. I was in some pain, but not too bad. I had a hiatal hernia that was repaired. That seems to have given me the most pain. My chest hurts and it hurts to take a deep breath. I stayed overnight. I didn't sleep very well, probably because after the anesthesia, all I wanted to do was sleep all afternoon. I stayed overnight and did a lot of walking. Got to leave the next day. I'm still a little sore, but I haven't needed any of the pain meds today. I'm having trouble getting in all the clear liquids that they expect at the slow rate that they expect you to drink them. But I'm trying. Hoping that everything else will go easily. -
I had the surgery same day with hiatal hernia repair, as well. I have pain in my chest from the hernia repair. I have had a lot of gas, too. Not too much pain in my shoulder. I'll go back to the doc on Tuesday.

Thank you!

Got the okay! My nasal culture came back negative. I called the surgeon and they said that it is not a problem since it is negative. Yeah!

Thank you! I'm calling the docs office in about a half hour when they open to discuss it with him.

It is really unbelievable! I have no idea whether or not they will go through with my surgery now or not. Its really frustrating. That should be something that is asked at the beginning of this journey, so that it can be dealt with early on, not a few days before surgery. I don't know how to add you as a friend. If you let me know how to do that, I will.

@ Britneygirl - I am having the same issue, but I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. I did not have one doctor ask me if I had MRSA. I had it about 5 years ago (same as you) with no issue since then, but now my PCP student assistant asked me on Friday when I went for clearance if I've ever had MRSA. I said yes but that it was about 5 years ago. She said that it could be dormant, but when you put a foreign body in your body it could become active. They did a nose culture, which I am waiting for the results. My doc was closed today, so I could not discuss this with him. I will call tomorrow.

What is plication and what is the difference? Donna

I have gone through most phases of the "work up" before the actual operation, but because I ended up having a very bad problem with my back this year, I was out of work for about 2 months. I don't have anymore sick time (and I won't for about 2 years as I was given advanced sick time). What is a true and reasonable amount of time that I will need to be out of work? I can work credit time to accrue some time off hours, and annual time, but that is it.

Recovery Time????
morichesdonna replied to morichesdonna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may have to just wait a while before having surgery to guarantee I have enough time to take off in case I do encounter any problems or issues. So, I will probably be putting this off again. :smile2: -
Recovery Time????

I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully, you'll start to feel better soon...... Have you gone to your doctor since the operation to talk to him/her about this? Did you have the same problem before the operation? I'm just curious. Feel well. -
Recovery Time????

This is great to hear everyone's opinion. If I had the surgery on a Thursday, I could take off Th & F (Sat/Sun) and possibly return Monday. For me, the worst part would probably be walking into the bldg from the parking lot. Its a pretty good walk. -

Thank you. At least that gives me a basic idea. I have a desk job, too, but I do a lot of walking around since I am a lead. I have to help everyone else.
