Well I had my one week post op appt today and I'm down......11 pounds! Wahoo! This may not sound like a lot to some of you but it's amazing to me! He still has me on a full liquid diet for another week then I get to move to puréed foods then to soft. I see him again in 5 weeks. After hating this thing for the first few days I think this band and I are going to be bff!

Jealous!! I'm one week too but was told one more week of full liquids. I'm so ready for eggs! I dreamed last night my mom made brownies and I got to lick the spoon lol. I'm so ready for mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs (not together of course) lol. Enjoy! -
Like you said everyone is different. Mine took 3 days and I have BCBS of Alabama PEEHIP for educators. They're pretty picky and it was only three days. That's just me though. Hopefully not much longer!!

I wore 14's in middle school lol. I'm starving but seeing your success makes me proud for you and excited for me to get there! -
5 days post op and made it through Christmas!
amber2604 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I'm 5 days out and made it through Christmas and it's gatherings!! I didn't cheat once and in so proud of myself! I stuck to this full liquid diet. I have my first week follow up appointment with my surgeon on Monday and I'm hoping he moves me on to mushies!! I wanted so bad to eat crab cakes, mashed potatoes, and dressing but I couldn't. What did your doctors move you to after your first week? I'm eating pudding and yogurt but I'm getting hungry between meals and I have a small fill. Like 1.5 cc. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!! -

Also, my mom got me some sugar free Reese cups and some sugar free dove chocolates in my stocking. When can I eat those? -
Couple post op questions
amber2604 replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 20th too. At first I was so miserable. I felt like this was a huge mistake and was wondering what the heck I was thinking. Being Christmas time with food around doesn't help lol. Anyway, I started full liquids the next day. I just started drinking carnation instant Breakfast chocolate flavor mixed with 1% milk and it's great! Makes me feel full for a while. That's the only way I've been getting in Protein bc the whey protein shakes suck! I've also been sipping the Soup part out of chicken noodle soup bc plain chicken broth is grossing me out lol. As far as gas pains, mine have really died down. My fiancé and I just closed on our house yesterday so I've been doing lots of walking around and cleaning so that has prob helped tremendously. The more you walk the better you'll feel. This is coming from the girl that called her mother crying bc she was afraid she was going to die in the middle of the night lol. I'm a drama queen when it comes to pain. Speaking of, take your pain medicine!! I only take mine at night and it gives me crazy dreams but it helps. I hate feeling bloated too. I look fatter in my stomach than I did before surgery lol. I see my surgeon for my one week check up on Monday and I'm wondering if he's going to let me go to puréed foods. I would poop butterflies to be able to eat some mashed potatoes and gravy and some applesauce lol. I hope you feel better soon and I hope I as well as everyone else newly banded feels better soon. This thing has to work right?? lol. Sorry for the novel! Merry Christmas! -
Night 2 at home and don't feel right
amber2604 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys. It's night 2 at home. I'm not in as much pain but I don't feel right. I can't really eat much. I've nibbled on pudding but that's it. I can keep it down as well as water. I'm just very shaky feeling and can't keep my eyes open. I'm starting to get worried bc I feel so odd. -
Ok so I was banded yesterday morning. I have been able to sip water and keep it down but the thought of food makes me want to throw up. I'm on full liquids btw. I can't tell if I'm full or just not hungry. Any suggestions? I feel terrible and have done nothing but sleep all day.

Well it's official! I'm being banded on the 20th at 7:15 am! About a year ago I started looking into this procedure and here I am a year later actually getting it done!! It feels great! I'm VERY nervous though. Not really about the band. I trust my surgeon and know that it will work. I'm just terrified of being put to sleep. See, this is my first ever surgery. Seriously. Never had wisdom teeth removed, broken a bone, never even been admitted to the hospital so I'm very nervous about that. I'm also not looking forward to the post op diet (yuck!). I also thought it was weird that I don't have to do a pre op diet. He said he doesn't require one except the day before we can only have a clear liquid diet. That just seems strange to me bc most things I've read or seen have said different. But, whatever! I'm nervous but very excited about the changes to come!

I LOVE this post!! I have been thinking of some of my goals and here they are in no particular order: 1. Crossing my legs comfortably at my desk. 2. Being able to comfortably sit in the floor and read with my kindergartners during reading time. 3. Looking amazing in a non plus sized wedding dress in June. 4. Being able to greet my fiancé at the door and jump into his arms and wrap my legs around him. 5. Buying cute clothes 6. Wearing shorts during the blazing heat of summer 7. Buying cute bathing suits 8. Being able to pick out cute stuff from Victoria's Secret for my lingerie shower 9. Shower time (for myself and with my hunnie!) 10. Going to the gym and not being stared at like "seriously fat girl?" 11. Looking great on my honeymoon 12. Being able to go to a restaurant and order what I want, not what will fill me up 13. Wearing cute knee length boots during winter! That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure I'll have a million more when I post this. I am banded tomorrow and will start the process if being able to start crossing off the things on this list!! That's all I

I'm being banded tomorrow and I'm so nervous but I'm also so excited! I skipped out on a Christmas family get together today just so I wouldn't want to eat lol I am very blessed though that I had a surgeon that only made me do a clear liquid diet the day before surgery which is today. So, surgery tomorrow then I start full liquids Tuesday. I'm hoping I can live off of pudding, yogurt, Popsicles, hot cocoa, and protein shakes for two weeks! Good luck to those pre and post!! I'm ready to get this over with. I've never had anesthesia or any type of surgery. Like not a broken bone or never had a tooth pulled. That's what I'm mostly afraid of but when my wedding gets here and next Christmas when I look in the mirror it will be all worth it!!
-
I am dying here lol. One minute I'm so excited, the next I'm trying to talk myself out of it! I'm nervous about the anesthesia mostly, not the actual surgery itself. I start clear liquids Sunday then when I come home (next day) I start full liquids. I think I'm going to go ahead and start clear tomorrow just bc I want to be certain to have an empty stomach on Monday! I'm also kinda worried about something. We can't eat or drink after midnight. Well, I pee right when I wake up and when I get there I am supposed to take a urine based pregnancy test. If I've had no liquids and already used the bathroom, what if I can't pee?!? lol It sounds petty I know but at this point the worry wart side of me has kicked in. I'm just ready for this to be over and be losing weight! What about you?

Why did you choose the band over bypass?
amber2604 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just finished my fifth of seven required weigh-ins for my surgery. It's looking like I will most likely be having my surgery in October or November. I have been dead set on getting banded but recently I found out that one of my friend's sisters had bypass and now she is trying to talk me into having that instead. I like the band because it is slow and gives you a chance to tone up as you lose weight rather than have a rapid weight loss and a bunch of saggy skin. My only dilemma is that I want to lose a lot of weight fast because I am getting married next Summer and I want to look as best as possible, but I also want to go with the safest route because that is more important. Also, has anyone ever had complications with slipping or getting sick with eating certain things? Can you ever eat "real" food again or do you have to always be on a healthy "Food Pyramid" type diet? I also teach 3rd grade so I was wondering the type of difficulty I would have with going back to work? How long did it take you to feel comfortable moving around? I know this should probably be somewhere else but I wanted to hear from people who have actually had it done. -
Hey guys! As part of my insurance requirements, I must have six consecutive months of weigh ins by my family doctor in order to have surgery. My question is, should I be losing weight? I mean, the obvious answer here is yes, I'm eligible for surgery so I of course NEED to lose weight. Should I be consistently losing though at my weigh ins? I know that at the end of the six months I will still be eligible but will my insurance not want to approve me because it shows I can lose? This may be a stupid question but any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
