I'm 3 weeks out. I followed the food plan for 5 days of each week they suggested and just tried things to see how my stomach could handle them. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because I've had no problems with anything I've eaten. Even yesterday my daughter had a beef jerky on the way home from Wally World and I took a bite and chewed and chewed and chewed and chewed. Yes, they can be chewed to mush. It tasted so good. I'm not really sure what restriction feels like because for so many years I considered myself full whenever my stomach hurt from over eating. I've really had no problems with stopping whenever I am no longer hungry. I've always been a foodaholic but I'm not finding it that hard to stop eating. I think part of that stems from the $ signs I see that I spent and think I don't want that to be wasted money. Heaven knows I've wasted enough in the past on diet stuff and have failed at everyone. This time is going to be different. I've even been able to not eat the Easter chocolate that is laying around here. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast, refried beans with a little salsa and cheese for lunch. I'm getting hungry so I'm going to have some deli turkey breast and green beans, and perhaps jello or applesauce. Later the milk shake with an extra scoop of flavorless whey protein. I've lost 19 pounds so far. Tomorrow I'm calling to get an appointment for a fill at the end of the month. :nervous

Wondering about Mexico
LLSibley replied to cindilouwho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done in Monterrey, Mexico with Dr. Zapata. He worked with Dr Sanchez until Sanchez was killed in a shooting of some sort. Anyway Sanchez was very instrumental in getting the lap band FDA approved in the Us. I believe he was a leader in the development of procedure. I had a very good experience there. I went through www.ready4achange and they basically took care of everything for me. My only regret I have is that when people say contact your surgea, it's kind of hard to do. Of course I haven't had any problems yet to contact my surgean about. Of course you also have the language barrier outside of the hospital and motel but my son and I did manage. -
I'm 3 weeks out and have a question about water. Everyone talks about sipping the water or else they have problems. I've been able to drink my water just like I did before surgery. I don't guzzle it like before but I just drink out of a glass with gulps and not sips. Is something wrong with me that I should be concerned about?

I've been so busy I usually just take time to read my e-mail, much less answer it. Between the day care (and the kids have been wild this week with weather change and Easter) , working on my Pampered Chef business, and making flower girl and bridesmaid dresses for my son's wedding in May I keep out of trouble. I have had some major accomplishments I think. Last Sunday, 2 weeks out, I had lost 15 pounds. I put on a pair of jeans last night that I attempted to wear to a football game last fall and they buttoned and zipped, even without laying on the bed. I'm anxious to get on a scales again. I don't even own one. They were always my mortal enemy. It's about time for kids and have other computer work to do. Have a great day and if I don't hear from you all before Easter have a Happy Easter.

Today I had tuna salad for lunch and it was the first food I've had to chew. I put egg, finely chopped pickle, and fat free mayo and enjoyed every bit of it. I have to say I really haven't been hungry like I thought I would but I can't say I've ever felt full either. I've been able to pass up some really good temptations which has surprised me. Will this not feeling full continue until I get a fill? Perhaps this thread isn't the one I should be asking that on since we're all fairly new at this game.

I was banded 3/19 and although I haven't weighed since I had great news this morning that I had to share. I have this pair of black pants (because they make you look slimmer, lol) that I have worn as my only pair to look nice in. When I bought them they fit perfect. Just 2 weeks ago I could still force them on and use a button extender to button them and then zip them as far as I could. I'd add a long blouse so no one knew. I put them on to go to church, no button extender, zipper all the way up and both buttons on the waist band are buttoned and they are not cutting into my waist. Numbers are everything (although I do wonder how much I've lost) but the way your clothes fit will tell a lot. I'm so excited.

I won't have to buy anything for awhile because I have bags of clothes all the way down to a size 12 that I can grow into. Then I will be able to raid my daughter's closet because she has more clothes than she will ever wear. I really don't want to buy something I won't wear very long . I'd prefer waiting until I reach goal to get new clothes. There's always second hand stores that have lots of nice things if you will just look.
-
I also need to buy a scales so I can weigh on the same one every week. Even if they don't weigh with the doctors scales they will be consistant with itself. My plans were to try to get to the clinic at least once a week to weigh but I have an in home day care and can't seem to get rid of my kids in the evenings before the clinic closes. Good luck on your post visit. I know you'll find you've lost a bunch too. I'm looking forward to seeing someone I don't see very often and have them notice a weight difference. This is all so exciting.

Now for a scale victory, I went to my daughter's to weigh after church and of course she has just one of those cheap scales but she says it weighed 2 pounds light from the last time she was at the doctor. According to her scales I've lost around 15-17 pounds. Wow, am I excited. Next time maybe I'll be below 200 for the first time in I don't know how long.

I was just wondering if anyone has more pain at the port site incision than the others? Also how long did it last? I just wonder although it's not great pain. I'm one of these people that always worry about everything.

BMI 39... should I eat more??
LLSibley replied to meeg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a BMI of 36. I was banded 3/19 in Monterrey< Mexico by Dr. Zapata. It cost me $6990 plus airfair but that was their cheapest price. They have other options that include airfair, free fills for life and etc. I had absolutely no problem except for the language barier outside of the motel and hospital. The price includes motel, pick up at airport, motel, hospital. The website is www.ready4achange.com. -
I was banded 3/19. I was that way and it would stop and then start up again. I began an investigation to see why it would come and go by really paying close attention to what I drank and when it would hit. I found when I drank chicken boulion it would hit about 30 minutes later. The solution was easy, eliminate that from my diet. I was so excited to day to have a bm with some shape to it. It really will happen.

Hello from Texas... (just got banded yesterday)
LLSibley replied to tkgolightly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you need to talk to your doctor. I had none of these problems. I was given an antibiotic to take the day before and for 5 days after. You need to take care of yourself and let your husband take care of the kids for a few days. Did you not get an diet schedule before you left the hospital? You need to be on clear liquids for a week. Be sure you call your doctor. -
Today is day 15 after lap band and this morning I got up with very little pain in my port site. Of course after work today it will probably be back but really feel good. Wish I had a scales to see how much I've lost.

I was banded on 3/19. I wondered if I had done too much today to make it hurt. I was less careful than I had been. How long are you suppose to wait to bend at the waist or lift something over 12 pounds? I'm sure I was told but at my age I'm doing good to remember who I am.

I also had my lap band just a week ago in Monterrey, Mexico with Dr. Zapata. The only problem we encountered were outside of the hospital and motel with a language barrier but we managed. The group we worked with was Ready 4 a Change. Go to www.ready4achange.com for info. I paid $6990 plus air fair. They have different price levels that offer different things and also financial funding options. Check it out.

Hi all, Today is a challenge in a way. I have an in home daycare and this is my first day with kids. Lucky for me only half showed up today. It's almost time to fix their lunches. That was one of the big reasons I got so big because I'd eat whatever they didn't. I'm keeping juice and plenty of water available so I don't accidently put something in my mouth. Can we chew sugar free gum? I believe that would help me at this time.

What time are the meetings in Mt. Pleasant?
-
Hey, Mt. Pleasant Bandsters, I would sure be interested in finding out more about your meetings like when and where. I was banded a week ago and feel I will need as much support as I can get. I live in Omaha, just down the road a ways. From what I've heard about people here in Omaha/Naples we have several people who have been banded. Please let me know more info and if anyone banded can come.

I appreciate the feedback. I really thought that was probably the reason but nowhere on any forum I've checked out had mentioned it. Tomorrow I'm starting on pudding and mashed potatoes.

I guess I should start by telling a little about me . I'm a 59 year old woman who was banded on Monday, March 19 in Monterrey, Mexico by Dr. Zapata. Of course I haven't done any weighing yet but probably will next week sometime. I've read many places about how many people don't loose the first week or so but I can't imagine that when the liquids you comsume have so few calories in them. I know I'll do fine these first 4 weeks on restricted diet but already am concerned about later. A friend was done on 1/31 and has lost 22 pounds but another friend has been over a year ago and lost only 38. I know this isn't a miracle weight loss but sure want it to work at the price paid for it. I've been on every diet in the world I believe. I've succeeded at each only to fail again. I really hope this forum will be a constant support to me.:girl_hug:

Hi all, I'm a new bandster from Omaha and would be interested in this group. Can you give me more info. I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico on March 19 so I'm still in the clear liquid stage. Of course I may never find this site again even is I have it bookmarked. Linda
