Are you excersising? If not, I highly reccomend you start. If you are, bump it up some and/or change up what your doing. Excersise is such a huge piece of the puzzle. It increases metabolism, burns fat, decreases appetite and I find there is something about it that helps with food choices. Don't beat yourself up about the 5 pounds, but I think it does mean a change in what your doing needs to happen. Good luck. I know how tough maintainance is, I have struggled and struggled with it.

I was told by my doc. that if the band slips, you can't keep anything down, even water. Doesn't sound like that's the case with you. Of course, if you are concerned call the office for sure. Good luck

I have packed up all the junk food in my house. It is going to a friend for her kids, what she doesn't want is going to my trainer (whether she wants it or not, I'm sure she'll be happy to take it off my hands!). I was caught up in buy one get one free items. Used it as an excuse to buy crap. Told myself I would just have a little, once in a while. Yeah right, 40 pounds later..... This is huge for me. I really feel like I am ready to get "back on the wagon". Actually that includes drinking too, I was having wine, which made me hungry and reduced my inhibitions. NO MORE! My goal is too loose 15 pounds, Then I will see where I'm at. I have been by told I was to skinny 40 pounds ago. My other issue is I had a TT about 3 months after reaching goal. That was a mistake I think. I should have waited probably another 6 months at least. I am really worried that gaining and loosing the weight will affect the TT results. I am hoping if I only loose 15, maybe 20 my stomach wont sag. What will be will be I guess. Thanks for listening. I am using skin firming cream- figure it can't hurt for sure. I need to moisterize anyway.

vlp1968 replied to lovex5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started loosing a lot of hair about 6 months post op. I went to the dermatologist, and he assured me I wasn't going to go bald. He said the body goes into kind of a shock from rapid weight loss. it stoped a few months later. -
4 Years And Reflux...what To Do?
vlp1968 replied to cheytra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't think you need a fill. Just the oppossite, it's my understanding acid reflux comes from being too tight. I don't knowif that is the case with you, or if it's a problem you would have even if you didn't have a band. It is great you are going to go the your dr. Hope you feel better soon. -
Please Help, Very Scared!
vlp1968 replied to Carriedaway78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You did the right thing calling an office. Hopefully you will here from them very soon. Sounds like you need a bit of an unfill. The band can tighten suddenly for no particular reason, it's happened to me. All the ER would probably do is give you an IV so you don't get dehydrated. If water is staying down, be sure to drink as much as you can. That's too bad you don't have a dr. your seeing, I hope you find one today! -
As pretty much already stated- caffine is a diuretic and increases appetite. That being said, I am a huge coffee drinker. I switch to decaf after I work out. I have been successful at loosing weight.

Personal Issue... My Rant
vlp1968 replied to Idaho Jenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too wonder if his attitude has anything to do with the week with Grandma. I agree, he needs to be picking up his toys regardless. You might thing about taking the toys away for a bit. If he can't pick them up, he can't play with them. Good luck! Parenting is never easy, surgery or not. -
I am sorry your discouraged. You are doing the right things, the scale will move. Sounds like you are weighing yourself every day. In my opinion that is too often. Especially since it's discouraging you. Try to stay off the scale but once a week and record your weight. You certainly didn't gain a pound of fat, it's just natural flucuations in weight. Hope this helps!

Hi Laura, Here's my story. I was banded 11/09. Lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. Howeve the band hasn't been the tool I hoped it would be. Restriction was elusive. I would be very hungry, get a vey small fill and then not be able to even keep shakes down. I was in a good spot for a few weeks here and there. When my band was tighter I wasn't able to eat Pasta, rice or bread. Everything else went down fine and I experienced significant hunger. If I could do it over, I would give the high protien diet a chance, I hadn't dieted in years when I decided on WLS with the encouragement of my mother. This is just my story. As you have probably read, there are many success stories. It's a big decision, do thourogh research so you can make an informed decision. Good luck!

Hi all, After being off track since oct. (vacation and then holidays) I am finally on track and motivated. I haven't eaten perfect over the last couple weeks, but did loose 2.5 pounds. I am so excited to finally see the scale going in the right direction! I have been very consistent with the excersise, sometimes going to the gym twice a day.
-
Are you on shakes and then the 1 meal? The instructions do seem confusing, 1 meal but 2 veggies. Should you eat 2 servings with your protien as the meal or eat another serving of veggies at another time? I would call again and get it clarified. Congrats on being on the preop diet- you are on your way!

How Long I Need To Wait
vlp1968 replied to waitingpatiently's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would hold off on the abs- just think, you have the rest of your life to work on a 6 pack lol. It just doesn't see worth ripping a stich or whatever could happen. Wait for your drs. go ahead would be my advice. -
I agree- I wouldn't do sit ups at all. Just tell them you had surgery and dr. said you can't.

You are on a roll! Start the excersise for sure, it's a huge piece of the puzzle. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

First Week Post Op Wt. Loss
vlp1968 replied to earthsmile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't do a pre-op diet. In fact I had many last meals (last chinese, last mexican, last mcdonalds et..) I only lost 3.5 pounds the first week, despite sticking to the protien shake diet. I think some of that was because of the saline they put in your IV during surgery. I lost pretty steadily after that, 2-4 pounds a week, usually closer to 2. -
Words Of Encouragment!!
vlp1968 replied to Crybaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! I agree with changing things up, especially your excersise. You muscles get used to one form of cardio- can you do the bike or swim instead of say the treadmill? Increasing the duration/intensity of your workouts may help too. Adding weight training may also help. Most of all, just know that if you continue to take in less calories than you are burning that damn scale will move. I know how frustrating a stall is. -
Secret Foods That Has Made Your Journey Easier?
vlp1968 replied to okiekatt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
stephyanders- I second the fage greek yourgurt. I put splenda in it, takes away a lot of the tang I don't care for. I eat it with 1/2 c fiber one for breakfast. cereal has 1/2 of the daily fiber your suppossed to get. Applesauce sounds good too. -
I Am So Beyond Frustrated...
vlp1968 replied to MandiMand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Snacking with the kids came up alot. How about healthier snacks, that would benefit you and the kids. Fruit comes to mind, whole grain crackers is another. At the very least try to buy things the kids like, but you aren't too tempted by. Good luck! -
I agree- go for a bar higher in protien and lower in carbs. I like Atkins peanut butter bars. Atkins also makes a granola bar that is better on the go because it isn't covered in "chocolate" that melts.

Going Well, Except 1 Thing
vlp1968 replied to amandacoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just want to second that you seem to being doing just fine. I had the same experience with chest "pressure" and feeling like I had to burp. Keep up the good work! -
Hell Yeah! My Triumphs!!
vlp1968 replied to simoneshirbet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You go girl! Keep up the excellent work and you'll be at your goal for Hawaii. You will have a fantastic time whatever your weight is, it is absolutely beautiful. Kudos -
I would get in to see your surgeon asap. Doesn't sound like your eating too much, sounds like you are too tight. I have had my band suddenly tighten. I bet with a small unfill you will feel much better. Sorry about your hair, you might want to see a dermatologist. I did, and he told me it was from rapid weight loss and would subside. He assured me I wouldn't go bald. He was right on both counts. Feel better soon!
