I need a kick in the pants!
vlp1968 replied to footballjunky3061's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I don't believe in fasting. Your body needs nutriton and energy everyday. I would go on the liquid diet for a few days. That might help you get back on track. Good Luck! -
Need a good protien shake to keep me full.
vlp1968 replied to neesh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like myoplex lite shakes. They have 20g protien and less then 5 grams suger. I think Atkins shakes have too much fat. -
Throwing up all the time
vlp1968 replied to michellemo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. Not being able to keep anything down is not okay by any means. If your doc won't see you I would go to the er. I believe your situation to be an emergency. -
My doc does the fills right in his office. You might want to find a more convenient situation. That is, find another doctor.

I love south beach. I don't think of it as a "diet" but a way of healthy eating. Getting the "right" carbs and the "right" fats.

If your stalled, this worked for me...
vlp1968 replied to stephaniel71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swear by myoplex lite bars. 20 grams of protien and 190 calories. Less then 5 grams sugar. You can get them at walmart. No mixing involved. -
To fill or not to fill?
vlp1968 replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would keep the appointment since you are hungry between meals. Just tell your doctor exactly how you feel. He'll know how much to put in. Keep up the great work! 60 pounds wow! -
Is the wii fit plus a second board to buy or just an additional disc? Thanks

too full at the end of the day.....
vlp1968 replied to kimr55760's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would wait longer before you drink after a meal. Of course you need plenty of water, but could probably get it in even if you wait 2-3 hours after eating. Hope this helps. -
I swear by the myoplex lite bars. Very little fat, 20 g protien and they taste fairly good. Atkins bars have significant fat. You can get them at Walmart. Have a great trip!

Anyone taking in 60-70g protein
vlp1968 replied to sKiPpY_C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 40-60 grams of protien. I usually get about 50. Adding canadian bacon to my breakfast has helped. You might want to throw in a shake. I drink myoplex lite, it has 20 g. of protien. Hope this helps. -
I feel the same way. Just don't know when one more bite is going to be too much. I guess slowing down is probably a good thing to do.

What is happening to me? OMG!
vlp1968 replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope this didn't happen but it may be that your band sliped. My surgeon told me if it slips I will have trouble keeping anything down. If it continues I would call your surgeon just to be sure. Best Wishes. -
I eat myoplex lite bars (I drank myoplex lite shakes during the liquid phase). They have 15 grams of protien. I find them fairly tastey. I use them when I need to eat on the go. I get them at Walmart.

The above post gives lots of great advice. My hardest thing is eating slowly, thanks for stressing how important that is.

I wouldn't go if I were you. I think it's too soon. Sounds like you would be very tempted by the beer. Keep your health goals in mind when making this decision. I was invited on a cruise that I turned down. The drinking, eating and gambling was just too much of a temptation. Maybe you can postpone it? Best of luck to you.

I am happy for you. You are doing great and have an awsome attitude! Keep up the good work.

Almost 4 weeks since surgery...Can I have a freakin drink??
vlp1968 replied to Tiggerangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand drinks will make you "drunk" more quickly. Probably not bad news lol. The only concern is calories, as I think you already know. Have a good time at the bar. -
Sorry you are having such a rough time. Hang in there. Your hungry because the liquids go right through the pouch into your "big stomach". Unfortunately I found it didn't get much better with soft foods. However after 2 fills I feel some restriction. Give it time, you will grow to love your band! Best Wishes

Just had my first fill and can start on solids today...Now what?
vlp1968 replied to withtheband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had to chime in and say the Southbeach Diet is fantasic. It's what I'm doing as well. It's about the right fats (unsaturated) and the right carbs (fruit, whole grains and dairy) -
I would wait a couple days if you can keep down fluids. I couldn't even keep fluids down after my first fill but by the morning I was fine. If I wasn't I would have called the surgeon for sure. Call immediatly if you can't keep down fluids.

what did u eat for breakfast?
vlp1968 replied to dowhatitdo1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unlike most people (so it seems) I wake up hungry. I workout before I eat and then I have a 1/2 cup whole grain cereal (fiber one, cherrios) with strawberries or blueberries and 3 slices of canadian bacon (lots of protien) -
I just don't get it.......
vlp1968 replied to toddee1099's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Previous post is right on the money. Thanks for such a clear explanation. I have to admit though to sticking to about 650 calories and am loosing 3-4 pounds a week. My nutritionist has ok'd this. By the way, I am very short, 4'11. -
Be aware that there is significant hunger involved. It takes most people a few fills to feel they are satisfied with less food. The actual surgery was a piece of cake for me. Only asked for pain meds in the hospital once. Took the perkeset I was sent home with occasionly. I found the worst pain was when moving around a lot. The band is a great tool (I've lost 32 pounds in 2 months) but you still have to do the work. I count calories and protien grams. I log everything I eat everyday. Hope this helps in making such a big descision!

I have been on several cruises and they do have healthy options. Portions are also fairly reasonable. Stay away from the alchohol of course. Have a great time!
