Recommendations for Post Op Diet
vlp1968 replied to Savanna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as shakes, I like Myoplex lite. They have 20 grams of protien and 170 calories. On soft food phase I ate cottage cheese, yougurt, apple sauce, mashed potatoes at thanksgiving (no gravy, lots of calories and fat) SF jello and SF popsicles. Best wishes! You are starting a whole new phase of your life. -
3 days postop- sleep question
vlp1968 replied to chubnomore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told I could sleep on my stomach and did. No problems arose. -
Any ideas? First real problem
vlp1968 replied to TiffanyPink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope this isn't the case, but your band may have slipped. It's been a while since your fill and you say you've been fine for now. My doc said if the band slips you can't keep anything down. Don't mean to scare you. I would call your doctor asap. -
I am not working so I know how it is to be bored, the food cravings kick in big time. How about making a craft instead of food? Just a thought.

More than miss eating itself, I miss that nice full feeling after eating a somewhat large meal. Fullness feels different once you have restriction, kind of an uncomfortable feeling. Sometimes I get chest pain when I've eaten just a little too much. However, getting banded was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I have no regrets. Best of luck!

Its not always rainbows and butterflies...I NEED HELP!
vlp1968 replied to givempills's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing free weights 3x a week. I really, really, reallyreallyreally dont want anymore surgery and if I can do anything/everything I can to keep from having to have cosmetic surgery after I reach goal I am going to do it. Great your doing weights but I hate to tell you that it will not prevent saggy skin. Unfortunatly there is nothing we can do about that. No excersise, no cream. I too am hopeing I will not need plastic surgery. However, I will have it if it's needed. -
What should I do?
vlp1968 replied to Woodstock girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally agree. I would call the doc. asap and tell them what is going on. -
My nutritionist said 130 carbs a day. Have to admit I am probably getting 50-70 all from heathy options. I only keep track of protien and calories. Generally eat very low fat (ie. eggbeaters instead of eggs, only very lean meat).

I am down 42.5 pounds and did my first closet clean out. Found a couple pairs of pants that fit pretty good. I too, have quite a few sizes in my closet. Trying to buy as little as possible until I reach my goal.

I eat lots of fish- mostly tuna and salmon. Cheese sticks and yougurt for snacks (U need 2 servings of calcium a day). I found chili (1/2 cup) stays down well. I also do protien shakes and bars to be sure to get the required 60 grams of protien. I used to eat losts of chicken breast but since my third fill can't tolerate it. I stay away from fruit except for berries because of the high carb. content. I eat whole grain cereal (fiber one, cheerios) sometimes. I log everything i eat, counting calories and protien grams. I find this really holds me accountable. Hope this helps.

A couple things you might try. One is to change up your workout routine. As I understand, your body gets used to the same routine and doesn't burn as much fat. I have also read that varying your caloric intake keeps your body guessing as well. For example, have 800 one day, 1400 the next e... Hope this helps. Good luck, you've done great.

Post Surgery Depression
vlp1968 replied to nebraskahickchi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I strongly reccomend you begin seeing a psychiatrist. I believe them to be much more experienced at prescibing psyc. meds. Tell your regular dr. since I am feeling so deppressed, can you reccomend a psychiatrist. Hope the appt. Friday goes well. -
I only lost 3.5 pounds my first week after surgery. Then a few weeks later lost 8 pounds in one week. I think they may add saline to the iv they give you post op. So hopefully you will see a big number down the road. Hope it's soon!

Third fill did it for me, hope it's the same for you. Best wishes!

Post Surgery Depression
vlp1968 replied to nebraskahickchi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if it was the surgery or not. My advice is to work with your doctor. I'm assuming you have a psychiatrist who prescribes your meds. Call for an appointment asap. -
Weight Watchers Question
vlp1968 replied to Stacy1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a formula but I don't know what it is. I did WW a couple years ago. They should have that info either in there literature and/or online. Best of luck! I think WW is a great, healthy program to follow. -
Veteran Banders - Please help me determine restriction or stuck
vlp1968 replied to curiousinoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since my third fill, I have had trouble with any kind of meat (chicken, turkey, chicken suasage) but can do fish. I can also keep down all liquids. I eat protien bars, cereal, tuna, yougurt, LF cheese sticks. Think I am too tight? -
The myth of exercise and weight loss
vlp1968 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my two cents- excersise may not be necessary to loose weight but is vital. If your not working out- your loosing muscle which equals a lower metabolism. On the other hand, if you are working out you are gaining muscle- which equals a higher metabolism. Not to mention excersise helps control blood pressure, diebeties, heart disease. The list just goes on and on. It is too valuable a resource not to take advantage of. -
Well- I don't have to tell you that a big mac was not the best choice. It is "slider" food and goes right through into your "big stomach". Also- it took me 3 fills to feel restriction, some people it takes even longer. You could think about making an appt. for another fill. Best of luck!

What do you wish someone had told you BEFORE your surgery?
vlp1968 replied to Jennerator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had been told about all the hunger at first. I was starving until my third fill. Also- be aware that fullness does not feel the same as pre-band. It is actually a somewhat uncomfortable feeling- a pain in your chest kinda like heartburn. At least that's been my experience. I am glad I did it though. Down 40 pounds in about 10 weeks. -
I agree that it could be a slip but hope not. My doc said the sign of a slip is that all of a sudden you can't keep food down. Follow your dr's instrucions. Best wishes.

14 Days out and.........
vlp1968 replied to BandedBeauty66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is perfectly normal to be hungry until you have had fills. How many fills it will take seems to vary from person to person. It took me until my third before I felt restriction. Until then, just do the best you can. Practice slow eating with lots of chewing. Try to eat the right foods even if it's larger portions than you will eat with restriction. -
Sounds like you are getting back on track! My suggestion would be to start an excersise program if you haven't already. If you are already working out, increase the time and/or the intensity. Best of luck.

100% whole wheat pasta would be a much better choice then white pasta. The taste may take a little getting used to. It is better because of all the fiber, your body will metabolize it slower. It is a good source of carbs.

I bet after a few days you will be able to eat more. Protein shakes can help a lot. I use myoplex lite. You can get itat walmart, 170 cal. 20g of protein.
