  1. I have been there! About 4 days post surgery I got my appetite back, and like you put it, came back with a vegence. I couldn't wait to get to mushies, unfortunatley that didn't help either. I dealt with significant hunger until I had 3 fills. Sorry to say, hunger might be something you deal with for a while. On the other side, some people don't worry about loosing weight until they get restriction- I was so ready I stuck to a stringent diet. All the best! You can do it!
  2. You are absolutely right- you do not have restriction. If you did, you never would have been able to eat that much food. However, I think your choices were right on. Lots of people on this forum say they didn't loose weight until they got restriction. Just tell your doctor how it's going. He should do a fill for sure. If not, find a new doctor!

    Making Lists

Bring a pillow for the ride home- to but between you and the seatbelt. Chapstick will help the dry lips you'll have. Of course, bring something comfy that you can slip over your head for the ride home, I brought a nightgown. I hope your surgery and recovery go smooth as silk. Good luck!

    Mushy Food

I didn't blend- although I made shakes with the bullet on medifast a while back. Clean up is easy- you attach the cup you will drink out of right to the bullet. For mushie phase I ate scrambled eggs (egg beaters), cottage cheese, applesauce, yougurt. Follow what your surgean, nutritionist reccomends.

    Banded in Nov 2009

I was banded Nov. 16. I have lost 58 pounds. I have had 4 fills, some working better then others. Restriction has been off and on for me. I have 7ccs ( I think) in a 10cc band. I have been doing well with excersise- cardio 5-6 days a week and weights with a trainer 3 days a week. Thanks for the thread- it was nice to post my progress.
  6. I am jealous. I didn't have very long of no hunger after surgery- probably about 4 days. After that, I was starving. I was banded on Nov. 16. Now, I have restriction off and on with fills. Can't wait for that to be more consistent. I am sticking to the food and excersise plan and am pretty pleased with my weight loss- 58 pounds.
  7. Sounds like your there. You are full for 3-4 hours after eating. Enjoy it, the band my loosen as you loose weight. I was there, then lost it. The last fill didn't quite get me back there. Going to call (right now actually) and see if I can get in for another fill sooner then my scheduled one. You are doing great!

    dinner ????

I know you are already eating it, but I love turkey chili. Scrambled eggs were on my mushie food list. Also mashed potatoes. You could also probably have a mushed up sweet potatoe. Hope this helps.

    cocktails??

I don't think it will hurt you. That being said, alchohol has a lot of calories. I prefer to just stay away. You do what's right for you. Enjoy the party, focus on spending time with your friends.
  10. Drasan- I meet with my nutritionist every time I go for a fill. Like you, I don't agree with everything she says. I just yes yes her at the meeting and move on. Maybe this will work for you.
  11. I understand your frustration! I get dissapointed if I don't loose more than 2 pounds. You are doing all the right things. I only lost 3.5 pounds the week after surgery. And not much the week or two after that. However, I lost 8 pounds the week after that. I think they put saline in the iv at the hospital. You are right it's probably water retention. Hope you get a bigger number next week. All the best!
  12. Can you force yourself to down 2 protien shakes a day, even if your not hungry? Just a thought.

    1st fill

If it stayed down ok, I think your fine. However, it is probably better to follow your doctors instructions.

    so far to go....

You are doing great! 48 pounds down is awsome. Try to focus on the positive and take it one day at a time. As they say, it's a marathon not a sprint. All the best!

    Newbie Questions

If you can't keep fluids down, call your doctor asap. You don't want to get dehydrated. If you can keep fluids down, I would do shakes for 2-3 days. Give the soreness a chance to subside. Best of luck!

    Cheese & Nuts

I eat lowfat chesse sticks with no problem. Have stayed away from nuts.

    Just not hungry?

Are you vomiting at all? If you can't keep food down for more than a few days I would call your doc. If you can't even keep fluids down, I would call asap. Have you tried protien shakes?
  18. I didn't eat pureed food. I was told I could have cottage cheese, applsauce, oatmeal, yougurt, scrambled eggs, creamy Soups. Check with your nutritonist and see if she is ok with that.

    Burping?

Absolutley! Sometimes I need to walk around until I burp and can then return to eating. I almost always burp a bit right after I eat.

    After Surgery Diet

I was on liquids for 1 week, then soft foods for a week. For soft foods I ate cottage cheese, apple sauce, yougurt, egg beaters and oatmeal. I think that was pretty much it.
  21. I would see if your doctor will do another fill. 6 weeks seems like a long time.
  22. For me it was three fills. I too felt a lot of hunger until then. Don't be discouraged. The fills will work, just need to be patient.
  23. What you describe is totally normal. I am having pretty much exactly the same sensations you are. Goes to show how important eating slow, chewing well and taking breaks (to see if the pain the chest is on it's way) are. Best of luck!

4 weeks on - I can eat anything

I too was very hungry once the swelling of surgery was gone. It was all I could do to stick to the liquid then soft foods. I was afraid the band was never going to work. However after 3 fills I felt lots of restriction. Restriction is when you feel full after eating your aloted amount (whatever your dr/nutritionist advise). Full does feel different. For me it starts with a slight pain in my chest and feeling like I need to burp. If I eat beyond that point I vomit. For now, I would concentrate on eating the right foods (lots of protien, lowfat, lowcarb), chew chew chew and seperating your drinking and eating. If you eat larger quantities of the right foods until you have restriction that's ok (at least in my opinion).
