For me, when I have gotten off track I wait a few days to weigh myself. Somehow I just don't want to see the number I think it will be. Guess there is some denial going on there, but I have gotten back on track without seeing that scary number.

2 And Half Post Op....kinda Down
vlp1968 replied to f1stborn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been overweight most of my life. Weight was like a roller coaster. Always either gaining or loosing. I was banded 11/16/09. I lost 107 pounds in 10 months. That was eating ultra low carb and low fat and working out just about everyday. I have regained about 40 of that loss. I am struggling to get back on track. I think when we want to loose weight we want it gone yesterday. It just doesn't work like that. This time I am eating a balanced diet, still excersising. I feel like I never really learned to eat like a "normal" person. What I am saying is patience is key. Find a healthy diet you can stick to for the long haul. I have done the just shakes thing and couldn't stick to it (except the post op diet) and ended up feeling deprived and bingeing. -
I would call your surgeons office and ask. Keep in mind the calories alchohol has, and they are empty ones. Also, I know for me it causes me to overeat/eat things I normally wouldn't. My advice- stay away from it.

As already said, you may or may not have excess skin. It depends on many factors such as age, genetics, pregnancy, weight flucuations through your life et... I strongly advice keeping the weight off for a year before getting surgery. I just couldn't wait and am sorry. I gained back about 40 pounds since my tt. I got too thin, so I am hopeing if I loose 25 ish I won't have sagging skin again. I also got a face lift, which I am not sure I would have needed if I was just a bit heavier. good luck!

Please Help!!!! Frustrated And Angry!
vlp1968 replied to Mrs. 2012 Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there, it usually takes a few fills to get restriction, for me it was my third. I hope that is the case with you. 15 pounds in 3 months is really right on track. That's a little over a pound a week if I am doing my math right. We can expect to loose 1-2 pounds a week. That's great your working out, keep it up. The scale will reward your hard work, just try to be patient. I know that it's hard. How often are you weighing yourself? You might want to try just getting on the scale once a week or so, if it's discouraging you to get on the scale it's not helpfull. Good Luck! -
I went to the dermatologist when I started loosing hair. I too was lucky to start will a thick head of hair. He said your body goes into kind of a shock from rapid weight loss. He said it would stop, and it did. My hairloss started about 4 months post op and lasted until about 6 months post op.

Is This Normal?... Or Am I A Total Fatty
vlp1968 replied to ready4animprovedme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are doing just fine actually. I have suggested to others that they focus on eating the right foods and portion control will come with restriction. Right now, with no fill it's pretty much like your not banded. It will get better! -
My hair started to fall out about 4-5 months post op. I was lucky to start with a thick head of hair. I went to the dermatologist, and much to my relief he said I wouldn't go bald. He said the body goes into kind of a shock after rapid weightloss. It stoped for me about 3 months later. Hope it stops for you too.

I eat it with fiber one for breakfast. I add a splenda because the yougurt is a little tangy for me. Ranch dressing for veggies is a great idea.

I hope staying at my parents for 5 days will help me get back on track. My parents are very supportive and eat healthy as a lifestyle. I had 2 vacations almost back to back and that's been tough. Actually, I was having a tough time before that. Anyway a "detox" isn't why I came but I hope it will be a bonus. 2 good days so far.

What Is The Restaurant Scene Like?
vlp1968 replied to Sombra1718's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of good advice already given. I generally stick to a lean meat and veggie when I go out to eat. If it comes with a starch and I don't want it, I ask for extra veggies. Never had a problem with that. For me, there are a few resturaunts in my area that I know has a dish I like. I love Ruby Tuesdays Creole catch. It's broiled fish and comes with zuchinni and spaggetti squash. They say on the menue it's about 350 calories. A little higher in cals then most my meals, but I see no harm once in a while. I stay away from mexican even though I love it. The chips are a killer and nothing very band friendly on the menu. I like a chinese resteraunt that has a "diet menu." They are steamed dishes with a sauce on the side. Usually shrimp or chicken. Not all have this option but I have found several that do. Many resteraunts have there menu online. You can check it out and see if there is anything appropriate. Also, planning ahead can make it easier not to succumb to the temptation of the "bad" stuff. Hope this helps. -
3 Years Post Op And Have Gained Back Most Of My Weight
vlp1968 replied to laurasweetlo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I was at 110 at a low and am now 155 as of this morning. Wow it even hurts to type that. I have had no problems with my band. Since I lost the weight I have choosen to keep my band very loose. That may be a mistake, something I'm still pondering. I don't have any easy answers and am curious as to what others have to say. -
I agree- you may be doing too much too soon. I would stick to walking for another couple weeks. You could call your doc.s office and see what they reccomend.

6 weeks for me

I think you are right on track!

A snack is a good idea. I eat1/4c nuts and find them very satisfying. I measure because they are very calorie dense and have significant fat. Low carb though.

Weight Gain After Plastic Surgery
vlp1968 replied to betheboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there It's tough without restriction. I would focus on eating the right even if the portions are larger than they will be when you get back to a sweet spot. My goal would be to maintain right now, if you stop gaining that would be a good first steo. Good luck -
Don't hesitate to go in. I had several fills that put me over the edge. Each time I waited for days, thinking it was swelling and once it settled down I would be in a good place-wrong. After the unfill I had decent restriction. Hope you feel better soon.

How Did I Possibly Go From 200 Lbs To 124 Lbs And Back To 176 Lbs?? :(:(
vlp1968 replied to Joybgunter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have had some weight gain- 40 of 107 lost. I don't know how it frieken happend. Anyway, I am told I got to thin so of the 40 I want to loose 15-20. Not feeling real motivated- have a couple vacations coming up. Overall I am struggling. I will be happy if I don't gain any weight over the next month or so. After my vacations I will hopefully get back on the wagon and start loosing. I had a tummy tuck and am very worried I ruined the results of that with the weight gain. I guess only time will tell on that. Get a fill and get back to basics. You can do it! -
Two Weeks Post-Op - Questions!
vlp1968 replied to JessRess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't think of it when I was on mushies, but since realized refried beans count, if you like those. I did a lot of cottage cheese and apple sauce. Continue with some protien shakes as a supplement to get more nutrition and protien. Congrats on the begining of your journey- you are off to a great start! -
You probably won't see your port, but will feel it a bit if you press on it. My port didn't stick out until I lost quite a bit of weight.

How Important Is Exercise?
vlp1968 replied to supportRO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are so many benefits to excersise- it will impove your cardiovascular system and your pulminary system (lungs). Not only do you burn fat while your doing it, it increases your metabolism all day long. It's really tough to get stated, took me about 4 months post op. I started out will a slow walk for 20 minutes and gradually inreased my duration/intensity. I now walk briskly on an incline for 45 minutes, twice a day when I can. Just do it!
