Ready to join a gym...any recommendations?
vlp1968 replied to gingerjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I belong to LA fitness and love it. I have been working with a great personal trainer on weights. Whatever gym you choose- good for you! It's not easy to get started but well worth it. One in close proximity to home or work is a great idea as well. -
My appointment was uneventful. The nurse weighed me and went over medications. The surgeon didn't even look at my incisions. I should have asked him to. As a matter of fact a suture was hanging out that later caused a slight infection. Anyway- other than that, I am very happy with my surgeon and the care I am getting.

ATTENTION to those who are less than 3 months post-op and discouraged-READ HERE!!!

I wish I had found this forum before I had surgery. I was one of the people unaware of how long it would take to get restriction. I assumed it would happen right away. I also didn't realize how different feeling "full" would be. It is not the pleasant sensation it used to be, that's for sure. However, I have done really well with the band. I am taking the ups and downs as they come. I am kinda down right now because I just had a fill Monday. I Haven't been able to keep anything but water down since then. It's very frustrating and uncomfortable. I will go in for an unfill if it's still this way tomorrow. I have given up on the shakes until the morning. Hopefully with a little time to rest my stomach, I will be ok. Anyway, got off topic, noone should be comparing themselves to others, everyone is so different. Best wishes to all! -
First of all, congratulations on your weight loss! I am wondering if you need another fill. Sounds like you don't have restriction yet. I totally agree about food being a drug- especially the refined carbs, and fatty foods to an extent. I had the band to aide me in dealing with my food addiction. At times I am sad I will never be able to eat fries, pizza, chocolate et... again. However, I believe for me the best thing is to totally stay away. Keep up the excersise, that is great. However, as you know, it's not an excuse to eat junk. I suggest having a healthy snack waiting for you when you get home. It could be some nuts, lowfat yougurt, cheese sticks, cottage cheese. Whatever you like that is on the eating plan you are trying to follow. At first, I wouldn't worry about portions, that will come. Since you seem to want to work on some underlying feelings (feeling worthy) you might want to try Overeaters Anonymous. It is a 12 step program similar to AA. Don't know if it's for you, but might be worth looking into. Hope this helps and best wishes! You can do it!

Hi all, Here's my problem- had a fill on Monday (.4 cc) and am still having trouble keeping anything but water down. I know there is swelling that happens when you get a fill. My question is how long to wait before I go in for a unfill. I have had trouble before, after a fill, and in a day or 2 been fine. Just don't want to get an unfill uncessarily. Thanks!

fills....banded march 24th
vlp1968 replied to darkangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been told a specific measurement for the amount of food- 1 cup doesn't seem like too much to me. If you are not hungry I would say wait on the fill. Maybe postpone your appt. for a couple weeks and see what happens. Good luck, your doing great! -
I tried weight watchers but didn't really stick to the program. I do think it is a very healthy, sensible way to eat. As a bandster though, it may be a little high in carbs and not high enough in protien. You can probably do the program, just tweek it a little. The meetings are great! I think it will provide lots of structure to your eating.

I had an infection- but not at the port site. It was do to a stich he had left hanging out just a little. Try not to worry too much, I am sure you will be fine. Make sure to finish all the antibiotics. Best wishes!

I drink Myoplex lite- much less fat than myoplex. It has worked really well- not delicious but not bad at all. I like the chocolate.
-
Frankly, doesn't sound like a meal that will produce weight loss, or fullness. I would stick with lean protien and veggies. Also get 2 servings of calcium a day. At least that's what my nutritionist advices. Good luck!

I went away for a week and a half and was terrified to get on the scale. I knew I had eaten pretty well but hadn't worked out at all. To my pleasant surprise in 2 weeks I had lost 4.5 pounds. I hope you get a nice surprise. If not, as said above, just get back to what you were doing before vacation. Best wishes! Let us know how the scale treated you lol.

Glad to hear your fill went so well. I was nervous the first time too. My doc. gives a local so I don't even feel that long needle. Hope your fill leads to that elusive restriction!

How did you make your final decision??
vlp1968 replied to mimirae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it was a tool to get passed food addiction. I have other addictions, of which I had been clean from for almost a year. In that time, I gained lots of weight. I was turning to food as my last "fix". I knew I needed a tool to help me with the food. I was self pay ( I am sorry I didn't appeal the insurance company, but I was so anxious) and it was worth every penny. I have lost 69.5 pounds since Nov. 16th. I consider my surgery date my "clean" date. I am proud to say everything is going really well. -

Lite Snacking in between
vlp1968 replied to IndoorVoice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are doing great! My nut. says up to 3 snacks a day is fine. I too, love snacking on lite cheese sticks, cottage cheese and lf yougurt. It's a good way to get in the 2 servings of calcium my nut. says to have. Keep up the great work. Also- one warning. Your first fill may not cause restriction. It took me 3 fillls. Everyone is different. Best wishes! -
Anybody getting or have new BOOBS
vlp1968 replied to Malisafos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan to have plastic surgery about 6 months after reaching my goal (not sure exactly what that is yet). My boobs are surely sagging with the weight loss. I will also need a tummy tuck. Plastic surgery both excites and terrifies me. My sister had it all done, and I saw her recovery. It was scary how out of it she was for the first few days. She says she'd do it again in a heartbeat. Being under anesthisia for that long is very scary as well. Deffinately not a decision to take lightly. -
I've been banded since 11/08 and not doing so well..help!!
vlp1968 replied to eastcoastgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you have had a rough time of it! Sorry about that. Has the recent unfill helped? Not sure how to motivate you except to think about how good you felt while loosing. Setting mini goals may help. Such as a spa treatment when you loose 10 pounds. Excersise would help as well, if your not doing it already. It will help with the hunger and increase your metabolism. Higher metabolism = more weight loss. I really hope you can get back on track! Best wishes! -
Thankful for the band
vlp1968 replied to texassparkles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you are doing so well. Sorry for the loss of your friends husband. Take care! -
What you experienced is known as sliming. It happens from time to time. If your fill was real recent I would suggest you wait it out as swelling occurs after a fill. However, since your still having a hard time keeping much down after a week, I think you may need a slight unfill. I would talk to your doctor about it. Best wishes!

vlp1968 replied to ladytru84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your doing ok. Good for you to realize you wil probably need to slow down quite a bit once you have restriction. Good luck. -

I don't care attitude
vlp1968 replied to reginemichel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of fantastic advice. I would just add that whatever you are feeling is OK. Keep in touch with your feelings, that can help reduce stress. Best wishes! -
With restriction, you will find it's easier to pass up the "bad foods" that come into your path. I think the fact that there are temptations everywhere makes food more difficult to give up than other "drugs". I don't think it was a bad thing you removed yourself from the situation. Like already posted, talking to your husband about keeping your favorite foods away may be in order. Best wishes, you can do it!

Post-op issues - please help!
vlp1968 replied to heal-thyself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain sounds like gas pain to me. It's a little concerning you can't drink enough. Try sipping very slowly across the day. I think it is a great idea to touch base with your doctor Monday. Hope it gets better soon!
