exercising and not losing
vlp1968 replied to natismi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try not to focus on the number on the scale. Are your clothes looser? Since your working out, you may be gaining some muscle, which weights more then fat. I suggest you stay off the scale, except for once a week. The natural flucuations in your weight will drive you crazy. -
I made my first goal today!!!!!!!!!!

I vote to celebrate with a spa treatment. They are my favorite way of rewarding myself. I love a massage and a facial. Congrats! -
I think you will know more once you get to solid food. That is when restriction really comes into play. Fluids just slide right down to your big stomach. Don't hesitate to call for another appointment if this fill doesn't do the trick. Best wishes!

I am at the 6 month point as of today. Things have gone really well. Restriction has come and gone, but I have been able to ride the waves of hunger. I still vomit once in a while, and am starving other times. Go figure. I am off all of my weight related meds (high cholesterol, blood pressure and diebetes). I have lost 73.5 pounds. I started at 217. My goal used to be 120 (I am only 4'11) but now I think I want to go a little lower- maybe 110. We'll see as it gets closer I guess. Was hoping to reach goal in a year, and that seems to be very doable. Well- hope everyone out there is doing well. Just wanted to share. I love my band!

I use straws. Infact, when I get water from the doc. after a fill they give it to me with a straw. As stated above, I find it easier to take nice small sips using a straw. Guess every doc. if different.

Some doctors do a fill while you swallow barium- that way they can see how much restriction you have by how fast the barium goes through. Mine doesn't do that. He bases the amount of fill on what I tell him- as far as how hungry I am et... It's easy- he injects a local and then uses a long needle to access the port. I don't even feel the big needle (although it was a shock the first time I saw it). Afterwards, he always has me drink water to make sure that goes down fine. Congrats on your surgery, I'm sure your fill will go just fine.

Water RETENTION!!!
vlp1968 replied to catalyst4thecreator's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you swollen around the ankles? If so, this is not good for your tissue. You may want to ask your doc. for a diuretic. -
Sounds like you are doing great! Hope in continues!

So aggrevated with the scale!!!!!
vlp1968 replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't compare one scale to another- they are all going to be slightly different. I go by my bathroom scale in the morning, after using the bathroom. I only get on it once a week. I don't even think about the weigh ins at the doctors. That is fantastic your clothes are looser and your face is looking thinner. Focus on those positive things! You are doing great! -
A small pillow for the ride home, to put between the seatbelt and your lap. I had read about it and was so glad I did it, made the ride home much more comfortable. Best of luck!

Venting and Questions.....???
vlp1968 replied to Megg40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
800 calories isn't very much. Your body may be in "starvation mode". I would actually try eating more, and you may see that scale drop. Hang in there! It will happen! -
I would ask for a fill at your next appt. I had my first fill 6 weeks out. Just be aware the first fill may not do it. It often takes several to get restriction- took me 3. Until then, hang in there. I suggest focusing on eating the right things, even if your portions are bigger than they will be with restriction. Best wishes!

Constant Nausea - 2 years post-op
vlp1968 replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's lasted for some time now. Have you talked to your doc.? I would if I were you. Feel better! -
Where will I be in 3 months? 12 months?
vlp1968 replied to tinksmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are right- everybody is different. Sounds like you are doing great. Not sure what to tell you about what size to buy. Maybe make small misestones by buying only a couple size smaller then you are now. It will feel great to fit into the clothes and it won't take forever. -
Are you eating enough?
vlp1968 replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you may be a bit tight if you can't eat enough calories. I would suggest the possibility of a slight unfill. -
Very confused..Pls explain
vlp1968 replied to Northern Mist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's typical to have trouble with dry meats- they get stuck easy. Also typical to have some swelling after a fill-and therefore trouble keeping solids down. If you ever have trouble with fluids call your doc. asap. Sounds like you have some restriction- it will increase with additional fills. I wouldn't rush it- you seem to be doing very well. Trust me, being too tight is way worse then being a little loose. Best wishes! -
Great job! No reason to be hesitent, nice to see a positive post.

A quarter of the way to my goal!!
vlp1968 replied to giggles&curls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice work! -
Congrats! You have done great. 2 things to suggest. One is varying your calories day to day, for example, eat 1200 one day, 900 another, 1400 another. Also, vary your excersise. Doing these things is suppossed to kinda trick your body into loosing that last bit of fat. Good luck!

HELP! Sudden tightness
vlp1968 replied to StarbuxQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad your seeing the doctor Monday! Hope all goes well. -
Sounds to me like a normal feeling. I get a pain in my chest when I am full, gets worse if I eat just a little too much. It's worse right after a fill. Not sure about the gas pain, I never had any. Best wishes!
