20 days post op... and not feeling full
vlp1968 replied to JanicaPeterson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal for your hunger to come back once the selling from surgery reduces. That's good your calling the doc. maybe you can get in earlier for a fill. Not to be negative, but the first fill may not produce restriction. It took me 3 fills. Good luck on your journey! -
Worked out with my trainer- 30 minutes of abs. Took a break from cardio- will do 40 minutes on the treadmill tomorrow morning.

1 Year Out- Still Loosing Hair
vlp1968 replied to KimberleyTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair starting thining so I went to the dermatologist. He said it was probably due to the rapid weight loss. However, he said it could be an underactive thyroid or a new medicine I started. May just be something to wait out. Much to my relief he told me I wont go bald lol. Best wishes. -
I like to eat marinated meat. I buy perdue perfect portion chicken breat. They are individually wrapped, I throw the bag in the freezer and take one out at a time. I also like marinated lean pork loin. They come in a variety of flavors. You just bake it in the oven for about 30-49 minutes. I eat low fat cheese sticks and almonds for snacks. Also, berries and cottage cheese. Cottage cheese comes in snack packs with are just the right amount. Hope this helps, good luck.

Looking for sugar free protein bars----any recommendations??????
vlp1968 replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat Atkins bars. I think they have 8 grams of fat. I don't think it's significant, most other things I eat are very very low in fat. Remember, your body needs some fat to absorb fat soluable vitamins. Best wishes! -
afraid that surgery wont work for me...
vlp1968 replied to feelfat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band will not be a magic cure. As said, it is only a tool. A very helpfull tool once you have restriction. For sure, the fact you like "real food" as oppossed to sweets is not a reason the band won't work for you. Good luck! -
Very sad at the moment...
vlp1968 replied to missgypsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you need to find healthy habits that will help you grieve and then move on from your sisters death. Excersise is a great idea. You might also try journaling- just let the pen go and write down what your feeling. Don't be afraid to accept support from the people around you. The main thing is to not let your feelings get bottled up. Best wishes! -
40 minutes on the treadmill- walk 2 minutes/jog 2 minutes.

how did you tell your family you were going to have the lap band?
vlp1968 replied to babyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may be surprised at the support you get. For me, it was acually my mom who suggested I look into it. My whole family has been extremely supportive. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. -
Accountability thread for October Bandsters!
vlp1968 replied to kcg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in Nov. (the 16th), figured it's close enough. I would love to have reached my goal within the year. I have 19 pounds to go. However the weight loss has slowed, as is to be expected. A goal of 100 pounds is probably more realistic- which means 12 pounds. Great thread- thanks. -
reclaiming my individualality
vlp1968 replied to Bently's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What adagray said about pushing down feelings is right on. A big reason people overeat is too stuff there feelings. It is great you are asserting yourself! Your husband probably just needs some time to adjust. True love will survive even though one partner looses lots of weight, and in additon, becomes more assertive. Keep communication with your husband open. I think you will be fine. -
I thought my band had slipped......
vlp1968 replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad your band didn't slip! From what my doc. says, the symptom of a slipped band is that suddenly you can't keep down even clear fluids. Best wishes! -
Today is my 1 year bandiversary!!!
vlp1968 replied to Teacher2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have done great- congrats -
You have to factor in the calories. Drinking is lots of calories. To have a healthy diet, I wouldn't do it to often. I think you will find what works for you. Rememeber, no carbonation, so that means no beer. Best wishes!

Did a step aerobic routine I do at home- it's about 35 minutes.

How much weight have you lost?
vlp1968 replied to babyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Nov. 16th, 2009. I am very happy with the result, only regret is I didn't do it sooner. I have lost 88 pounds as of last Sun. I eat very healthy, stick to a lowcarb, lowfat, high protien diet. I do cardio about 5 times a week, and do weights with a trainer 3 days a week. -
You have done great! I would change up what your doing. If your already working out, change what you do (from teadmill to bike et..). Adding weights will increase your metabolism as you build muscle. Varying the amount of calories you eat is also suppossed to help (eat 1200 one day, 900 the next et..). Good luck! Keep up the good work and you will see that scale move.

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!........I hope
vlp1968 replied to bgn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great! It's so tough on vacation, I am very impressed you lost weight. Keep it up! -
Since you can't really keep down water, I would go in for an unfill for sure. I know there may be some swelling, but since even water is giving you trouble I would think your too tight. I have had to get an unfill after my last 2 fills. I was very hesitant to do it, but it made all the difference in the world. I had restriction after each unfill.

3 weeks in .....
vlp1968 replied to Enchantress1908's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow- you are under a lot of stress and don't seem to have a lot of support. Have you looked into a WLS support group in your area? That may help a lot. Are you excersising? That can be a great stress reliever. I hope your son behaves himself in daycare! Best wishes! -
Hi all you jocks out there! I worked out with my trainer and then did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I was doing 40 but increased the intensity so I backed off, will get back up to 40 over the next week. I was walking/jogging for 3 minutes of walk, 2 minutes of jog. Now I am walking for 2 and jogging for 2.

Can't wait for my first fill.
vlp1968 replied to Katybanddiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is too bad you have to wait so long for a fill- but you can do it! That is great you are eating right. You will see the scale move for sure. Excersise would be great to add, if you haven't already- and it helps with hunger. Remember why you did this, keep that goal in mind when you are deciding what to eat. Of course, keeping busy helps a lot too. If you stick to the program you are well on your way to a brand new, healthier, life. As far as your first fill, just know that it doesn't always cause restriction. It took me 3 fills to get there. Best wishes on your journey! -
Swimming is great, you won't sweat and it's easy on the knees. I would start out slow and gradually increase your duration and intensity. Whatever you decide to do- get moving, it will really help your weight loss.

Most fruits and fruit juices okay?
vlp1968 replied to mondk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Juice shouldn't hurt your band but is not ideal for weightloss. There are lots of calories in juice, and no fiber. You are much better off eating your calories. Liquids slide right through the pouch into your "big stomach". -
A heartfelt revelation
vlp1968 replied to marissa1k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have a great attitude. Our bodies are amazing machines, sometimes we forget that.
