HELP What should I do
vlp1968 replied to keepinfaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that a week or so on liquids may be a good start. You don't mention is you are feeling restriction. If not, go get a fill for sure. In the meantime, you might want to focus on eating properly (low fat, low carb yada yada). Even if your portions are larger than when you have restriction it will be a good start. As already posted excersise is super important. Do what you can and gradually increase the intensity and or duration. You can do this! -
I did cardio 6 days in a row! Yeah me lol. 40 minutes Walk/jog. I also met with my trainer 3 days. This thread is great-it's part of what helps keep me motivated- so I can post it here. The scale has reflected my progress I am happy to say. Keep up the good work everyone!

Question, and eating out advice
vlp1968 replied to ambermar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting a take out box is a great idea. You probably shouldn't eat more than 1/2 of what they give you. You can ask for a takeout box with your meal. Then put 1/2 away before you even eat. Most places have something you can eat- like grilled fish and veggies or a chicken ceasar salad. You may want to stick to a few places you know have something you like that is on your eating plan. Best wishes! -
Finally broke the 240 mark

That's great! I am always very excited when clothes that didn't fit do. Keep up the good work! -
How long did it take until you got restriction?
vlp1968 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 3 fills over 2-3 months to get restriction. Very few people get restriction on the first fill. Hang in there and know it will happen. -
Yesterday and today did 40 minutes of walk/jog on the treadmill. Worked out with my trainer yesterday- 1/2 hour of abs.

Help!!! Hair falling out!!
vlp1968 replied to Kkrc10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair started thinning so I went to the dermatologist. He said, much to my relief, I wasn't going to go bald. He said your body goes into a state of shock after rapid weightloss. I was lucky to start out with a thick head of hair. Your hairloss should stop in a few months. -
Need some encouragement
vlp1968 replied to XxMariposaxX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree excersise is key! I was at a stall in weight loss and uped the intensity and frequency of excersise. It got that scale moving again. Are you journaling? Are you getting enough fluids in? You may want to take your measurments, sometimes people don't loose weight but loose inches. Try not to beat yourself up and move on from here. Everyday is an opportunity to do the right thing. -
My feeling is that everyone can benefit from improving their eating habits. You make want to make a lean protien, veggie and starch for your family. You can eat the lean protien and veggie. Good luck!

Eating more 10 days after my first fill
vlp1968 replied to stevey820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may have had some swelling that took a while to go down. It took me 3 fills to feel restriction. You may want to call your doc. and see if you can get in sooner to get another fill. I wish I had done that. Good luck! -
What have I done to myself!!!
vlp1968 replied to shelyshely's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very typical for hot liquids to go down easily- they loosen the band. You may be having difficulty when you eat too fast or don't chew enough. Hang it there! It just gets better and better. -
I agree with the protien. I don't know is slimfast has enough. I drink EAS carb control. You can get it at walmart.

Got to the gym and did 40 minutes on the treadmill walk/jog. Makes 5 days in a row for cardio. I am taking the next 2 days off as I am going out of town. Back to it Monday for sure! Everyone is doing great!

Just had my first fill, a little bummed....
vlp1968 replied to bigpops's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very normal for your first fill not to provide restriction. It took me 3 fills to feel any kind of restriction. Hang in there! -
Getting Back On Track
vlp1968 replied to confusion182's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You seem very determined to get back on track. I am not working either and know how hard it is when you don't have a lot of structure to your day. You can do it! Best wishes. -
Advice on strategies for when you want to binge and can't
vlp1968 replied to jenontheband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To stop turning to food when in an emotional state is a tough one to stop. I see a counselor and that helps a lot. Highly reccomend it. Try to get to the source of your feelings and find a productive way to handle it. Food only comforts for so long. For example, if your lonely, call someone on the phone. Don't be afraid to express your feelings to those around you. Talk can be great therapy! Best wishes! -
Skipped my trainer (bad girl, I just didn't want to get out of bed). Good news is I did 40 minutes walk/jog on the treadmill. I hope I see the payoff on my weigh in day- Sunday!

i haven't been doing things right..
vlp1968 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you may not be eating enough. Your body can go into starvation mode if you don't eat enough calories. That's great your swimming- keep it up and do it as often as possible. The workouts will really help the weightloss. Good luck! -
I do the EAS chocolate shakes too (carb controled).

Meal guidance sought from those non-newbies
vlp1968 replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daily diet is very consistant, here's a typical day: Breakfast- 1 protien shake (EAS reduced carb) after a 40 minute workout. Lunch: 1 small can of tuna with 1Tbl. low fat mayo and 3 Kavili crackers (10 carbs and 50 cals for the crackers) Snack- 1 snack pack of cottage cheese and 1/2c blueberries (berries are low in carbs compared to other fruit) Dinner- 4 oz of chicken and some sort of non-starchy veggie and maybe a lowfat cheese stick Snack- 1/4 c almonds and if I haven't already eaten it 1 lowfat cheese stick. (My nut. says to get 2 servings of dairy a day) -
Tips n Tricks- Snack Advise Please?!?
vlp1968 replied to mrslamica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Iagree with the reduced fat cheese sticks- I eat them all the time. Nuts in moderation are a good snack option as well. I eat 1/4c almonds as a snack almost every day. There is some fat, but it's healthy fat. I think it' the fat that helps fill me up. Good luck! -
Questions: Confused and mad.
vlp1968 replied to nursesandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get hungry about every 2-3 hours, have since getting banded. Depending on how I am doing fill wise, I get satisfied with what I eat. I allow myself some snacks. Eat 4-5 times a day. I know it's different then what lots of people have talked about but it has been my experience. Good luck! -
40 minutes on the treadmill walk/jog. Felt great, I have started pushing myself a little further.
-
It was a great great start! You have taken a huge step. Excersise will increase your speed of weighloss and ensure your gaining muscle not loosing it. Keep it up!

Had the band in for three weeks, considering removal.. advice?
vlp1968 replied to Veleda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow- you have had a hard time. There are lots of success stories on this forum. I have had very little side effects. Only trouble was after the last 2 fills I couldn't even keep down a protein shake- had to have unfills. Frustrating, but tolerable. I don't know if you could still have lots of swelling from surgery. Work with your doctor and let us know how you do. Good luck!
