  1. Since you can keep food down, you are probably fine. However, since your worried I would put a call into the doctor.
  2. I count net carbs. While I was loosing I kept it around 25. Now that I am maintaining, I am just focusing on getting good carbs (whole wheat bread and pasta, beans, yougurt et..) No refined carbs (white flour, white sugar)

    Restriction post op

Another thing to try is watering down the protien shake. That has helped me when I have had swelling after a fill.
  4. I too am on the fence about a 14 year old having WLS. I think it depends on the child. I also think often, there are others in the family who are obese. I think it should become a family affair to get healthy. The shopper needs to buy healthy foods and prepare them in a healthy way. I don't have an answer for teens who sneak food. It all becomes a very touchy subject. A parent doesn't want to make a child feel worse about their weight problem, but wants to help in any way possible. I have had a weight problem all my life and hate to see children go through that. Oh and I missed the first episode of biggest looser. I was out of town and my tivo taped over it- I forgot to put it on the do not delete mode. Oh well- there is the rest of the season.
  5. It was about 4 months post op for me. I was so excited! I had lost about 40 pounds and started working out. My blood pressure has been fine since.
  6. I have been very succesful with the band, about 104 pounds in 10 months. I did go through what many do, being to loose and hungry sometimes and to tight and getting sick other times. There have been times I wish I had gastric bypass but that comes with it's own complications. Long story short, yes I am glad I have the band.
  7. You are doing great! I am glad you took your doc.s advice. I have found lowcarb is very important for weight loss. Keep up the good work!
  8. I agree with the above post- excersise really does do wonders. If your not already doing it I highly reccomend you start.

    100 pounds down

That's awsome! I know how excited I was to get to the 100 pound mark, it brought me pretty much at goal too.

    First Fill Yesterday

Yes, it's perfectly normal not to feel restriction after the first fill. It took me 3 fills to get restriction.

    Day four getting better.

Glad you are feeling better. Good luck on your journey!
  12. That is great! I just gave 4 bags of clothes to my sister. We went shopping for some new ones. I was excited to fit into some petite 6's.

    Plateau...Help!!

Since it sounds like you have good restriciton- you say your not hungry I would try eating some more calorie dense food. You may want to have say chicken sausage instead of turkey or salmon is pretty calorie dense- meats with a higher fat content. That being said, I tend to agree with Betsy that it is kind of myth you go into starvation mode. Good luck!
  14. That is great you are going to excersise. It has been the key to my succes. When I have stalled, I uped the intensity of the workout and started loosing again. I am at goal- lost 103 pounds in 10 months. You can do it!
  15. I got restricion on my third fill, I think it brought me up to 4cc. It took about 3 months.
  16. My doc. said you suddenly can't keep anything down. If you can't keep anything down after a fill, then you are too tight. Slippage only happens in 3% of cases.
  17. It is tough at the beggining! Just know it does get better. Restriction will come and you will love your band.

    Scale Obsession?

For the most part I only weighed myself once a week, first thing in the morning. Now that I am mainaining I weigh in every day. If I gain 3 pounds or more I plan on doing something about it, probably go on liquids for a few days.
  19. Pilates is great for strengthing your core muscles. However I don't think you burn alot of calories. I would add some cardio.

    Goal Setting

I think it's borderline realistic. I lost an average of 10 pounds a month in the beggining. Start working out if your not already- it will work wonders toward getting to your goal. Good luck!

    I went shopping

I always make a list before I go shopping. I buy just what's on the list. It will get better, you will find it habit to eat the right things.

    How much is enough??

I agree with all the advice you've gotten. I would add maybe you need a slight unfill if you can't eat enough. Good luck!

    Sweet spot!

You both are doing great! Keep up the good work.
  24. Don't let the questions bother you. They are just determening if you need a fill. I get asked the same questions from a nurse, and then the surgeon before he does a fill. Don't feel discouraged if you don't feel restriction yet, it took me 3 fills to feel any kind of restriction. Good luck on your journey!
  25. Wow- all day is a long time. I had 2 different type of preops- one was at the hospital where they took blood, checked vitals, made sure my pcp had sent everything in they were suppossed to and did a chest x-ray. I also had a few hours of a preop class. They went over what to expect on surgery day and the first couple weeks after.
