Drinking while eating???
vlp1968 replied to extraonme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut. said no drinking 15 minutes before or after eating. Less than most, but it's been working for me. I actually feel more satisfied once I start drinking- go figure. -
You sound ready to get on the fast track to weight loss. Good for you. If your not already, I would start an excersise program. It has made all the difference for me. Start off slow and gradually increase the intensity and/or duration. I agree with the above advice to track what you eat. I did it for the first 4 months or so. Then it became second nature and I stopped writing it down.

I faintd once due to very low blood surgar. Also low blood pressure could be the cause. That's good your getting checked out thoroughly. Feel better!
-
I have exactly the same experience with burping. As far as a slipped band, you all of sudden wouldn't be able to keep anything down, not even water. It's more the vomiting with heaves and all that that cause a slip. Like if you get the flu.

Starting over- Changing my doctor

Good for you changing your doctor. I hope you are more satisfied with your choice. -
have any of you wished you did gastric bypass instead
vlp1968 replied to racheyrach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been very successful with the lapband- lost 107 pounds in about 10 months, and reached goal. However, there have been times I wished I had bypass- all that waiting for restriction, needing to go in for unfills when I was too tight. Overall though, lapband is much less risky and you don't have the absorbtion problems that gastric bypass can cause. It is also a much safer surgery. Best of luck in your decision. Either way- you will do great! -
3rd day post op - is this normal?
vlp1968 replied to tko7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My guess is that you have some delayed swelling from the surgery. However, I would call your doc. and let them know what's going on. They certainly know more than me. Hope you feel better soon. -
I was told 60 grams of protien a day.

Need a Pick Me Up! Struggling in Bndstr Hell!
vlp1968 replied to Nicole74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great! 30 pounds is awsome. It's really hard when you don't have restriction, just know it will come. During my first couple months post-op I thought the band was never going to work. But alas after 3 fills it did. Keep up the good work! -
how many days a week do YOU workout?
vlp1968 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do cardio on the treadmill about 5 days a week and work out with a trainer 3 days a week. Excersise has been key to my weight loss. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. That never would have happened without working out. You can do it. Just start out slow and gradually increase the intensity. -
craving sweets more than ever
vlp1968 replied to rpm2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice is to not buy the sweets at all, even if they are on the healthy side. If you live with people who want them, have a talk with them and elicit their support. Explain it's just too tempting to have the treats in the house. Keep up the counseling and excersise, they are both very important. Good luck! -
I would suggest you reduce your carb. intake, seems to be on the high side. Even things like apple sauce are pretty high in carbs. Fruit is a natural sugar, but still a sugar. You would be better off eating an apple because you would get some fiber. Best wishes!

Wow- that's pretty much a pound a day! That's awsome. However, expect it to slow down, and don't get discouraged.

Need a pick me up...
vlp1968 replied to newstacy09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost 117 pounds in 10 months- at my goal. Excersise has been key- when I stalled, I increased the intensity of the excersise and the scale started to move again. I also ate very low fat and low carb. Lot's of lean protien. You can do it! -
I too am so glad I got the band. I reached my goal in 10 months. I spend a little more time hungry or too tight but it's all been worth it.

Should I have fluid removed???
vlp1968 replied to dlynn44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been a week since your fill- so swelling should have gone down by now. I hope you are getting lots of fluids in. If your vomiting, you may want to go on liquids (protien shakes) for a few days and see if things settle down. Hope you feel better soon. -
Exercise and time spent in the gym???
vlp1968 replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, it's not just the calories you burn during the workout. Cardio increases your metabolism across the day. I do 40 minutes on the treadmill about 5 days a week. I walk for 2 minutes, jog for 3. I also do weights with a trainer 3 times a week. I highly reccomend it if you can afford it. I think it's money well spent. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn across the day. -
Please help! Stalled...need meal ideas!
vlp1968 replied to lapinmich1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some Ideas: Boca burgers Perfect portion perdue chicken (it's marinaided) Hormel chili (although it has 20 carbs) Lean pork loin- comes in different flavored marinaids) Fish For Snacks almonds- 1/4 cup low fat cheese sticks low fat cottage cheese berries or other fruit if you are not doing an extremely low carb eating plan Hope this helps -
Recommitting to my band and exercise!!!
vlp1968 replied to Froggie D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is great! Sounds like you know exactly what to do and are ready to start doing it. You can loose that last 40 pounds! Best wishes! -
You probably have some swelling due to the fill. That takes a few days to a week to settle down. If your keeping down liquid protien and water, I would wait it out a few days. Of course if your really miserable you might want to go in right away. Hope you feel better soon.

I totally agree with above posts about excersise. It has been essential to my weight loss. It's tough to get started, but it will become second nature before you know it. It will be a part of your daily routine. If you can afford it, I highly reccomend a personal trainer for weight lifting. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn all day long. As far as food choices, I do low carb and low fat. Lots of lean protien and veggies. Good luck! You can do it!

PLEASE HELP I'm Concerned!
vlp1968 replied to vega1star's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The mass your feeling is probably your port. Maybe your incisions hurt more because you are off the pain meds. I would put a call in to your doc. and just let them know what's going on. Congrats on your surgery. -
Weight Gain.. 3 yrs. post op
vlp1968 replied to rmahoutx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's good you are aware of the weight gain and want to do something about it. Sounds like you need to go back to basics when it comes to food choices. What did you eat before when you where loosing? I would go back to those foods. Of course, keep up the cycling! You can correct this minor bump in the road. -
If your band slips, you all of a sudden can't keep anything down. If it happens, you need a surgery to correct it. As far as moving to mushies, I wouldn't think one day would make much of a difference. Good luck!
