Starting to regret getting Lap Band
vlp1968 replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree that I would find a different doc. before thinking about bypass. Also, Betsy gave some great advice, keep a log and go in with specific data. I don't understand why they won't give you a fill since your telling them your hungry. My doc. does fills without flouro. and he always listens to me. I have never been refused a fill, although for 2-3 I had to get an unfill afterwards. Good luck to you! -
That is great! I know how excited I was to get off my diebeties meds, then high blood pressure and high cholesteral. It's a great NSV!
-
That's awsome! I was so excited to get off my diebeties medication. You must be thrilled.

My doc. has me on just clear liquids for 24 hours after a fill. Then I can go to solid food. Seems different docs have different guidelines. I would call the office in the morning and check.

I don't think thowing up once means you don't need a fill. Broccolli is a food I cut out since it gave me trouble. Also, as you said, you may have eaten it too fast. I would work on slowing down and see how things go. When it gets closer to your appt. you can decide if you need a fill or not.

8 Days post op and question?
vlp1968 replied to Becca29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think telling you you may not loose anymore weight was just a warning. If you eat right and excersise you will surely loose weight. Best wishes on your jouney! -
The Big Day Is Tomorrow!

You have a great attitude. My nerves kicked in the night before the surgery- couldn't sleep. Best of luck to you, I am sure you'll do great! -
Question for the veterans or newly banded??
vlp1968 replied to purple3797's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest you eat often. Don't let yourself get too hungry, that's when you run into real trouble. I eat 5-6 times a day. Hang in there and I hope you can schedule your surgery soon! -
Psycologist or Dietician?
vlp1968 replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with all the advice above. I wonder if there is a bariatric patient support group in your area. I go to one once a month and find it very helpfull. Good luck to you! -
The fill is pretty easy. The doc. will locate the port, use a local and then access the port (the needle is fairly long but you won't feel a thing). I am told liquids for 24 hours then back to solid food. You may have swelling which will make you tight for a few days, then it wears off. Don't sweat it, you'll be fine.

You have every reason to be very proud of yourself. Over a hundred pounds in 9 months is just fantastic. Keep up the good work! -
First band adjustment today
vlp1968 replied to jane uk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your first fill seems very normal. It is probably larger than others will be, the port and it's cord need to be filled with saline. I didn't have restriction after the first fill, took me 3. You will be one of the lucky few if you get restriction on the first fill. Just know it will happen. Good luck on your jouney. -
Did you cheat on you post op liquid diet?
vlp1968 replied to nancy_marie_00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on full liquids the week after surgery, then mushies for a week and then solid food. Seems like some dr's progress patients more quickly than others. Since your so hungry, I would call the office and see if you can progress sooner. Hang in there, it gets lots better. Good luck in your journey. -
I suggest lots of protien, fiber and water. They should all help with the hunger. Good luck and hang in there. It does get lots better.

My Bandversay and I need help
vlp1968 replied to Whillow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you excersising? That was key for me to get the last of the weight off. My weight loss would stall and I would increase the intensity of the workout and boom, the scale would start moving again. There are just too many benefits to excersise to not do it. You can do it! -
Question about Restriction
vlp1968 replied to DenverDrew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Full is a very different feeling once you have restriction. Like another post said, you want to get a feeling of being satisfied. By that, I mean not hungry anymore. For me I need to eat often, usually 6 times a day. 3 meals and 2-3 snacks. Hope this helps. -
What's On Your Grocery List?
vlp1968 replied to glam_gabbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like marinated meats. I buy perdue perfect porton chicken and lean port loin. The both come in a few different flavors. I also eat Hormel canned chili alot. As far as snacks I like almonds, cheese sticks, fruit, beef jerky. -
Did I fall off the bus horribly?
vlp1968 replied to ashleighP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you did pretty well. 300 cals for a meal is reasonable. Like others said, you didn't get the burger and fries. Wendy's and Taco Bell are on my list when I need fast food in a pinch. Chili at Wendys and one taco at Taco Bell. Good luck on your journey! -

Me with 70 off after 9 months
vlp1968 replied to sld21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nicely done! Keep up the good work. -
You say you don't have restriction, yet you get sick on 1200 calories. That sounds like restriction to me. I would talk things over with your doc. Hope you see that scale move soon!

Any runners out there?
vlp1968 replied to conservachick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that you want to build up speed and distance slowly to avoid injury. Have you been walking? You might want to start with walking for 3-4 minutes than jogging for 1-2. That is fantastic you are starting a program, it will really help in weight loss and maintaince. Good luck! -
You have had to focus on fighting cancer rather than weight loss. I am glad you are almost at the finish line in terms of the cancer. I don't understand why your doc. thinks your in the green zone when your hungry all the time. Maybe give your doc. clear data on what your eating and how long your staying satisfied. Best wishes!
