Advice: Need to tell my boyfriend about the Band...
vlp1968 replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would get it out in the open. You can say something like "As you know, I have been working hard at getting healthy. Towards that end, I elected to have lapband surgery last year. It has been a great tool in my weight loss journey". -
Help, sudden tightness?
vlp1968 replied to rock_bottom_enthusiast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call the doctor and insist to be seen as soon as possible on an emergency basis- hopefully today. Since your last fill was so long ago, I am concerned an unfill may not do it. I hope it didn't happen, but you are showing signs of a slipped band. My doc. said if the band slips you suddenly can't keep anything down. Feel better soon. -
Need suggestions. I'm stuck.
vlp1968 replied to reverie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great. You are doing all the right things. Loosing inches is really the goal isn't it. It's about getting smaller, not lighter. Noone sees that number on the scale but you. I am sure you are shrinking because of muscle development. Muscle takes up less room on the body. That's why your scale isn't moving, but your shrinking. Keep up the good work! -
Sorry you are having trouble. I am wondering how much fluid the doc. put in during surgery. If there's any in there, I would say you need more out. Hope you feel better soon. What you are going through is deffinately not normal.

Problems Eating Certain Foods
vlp1968 replied to LauraBAP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't tolerate eggs either. It's a bummer because I like them and they are full of protien. I would just stay away from them if I were you. -
What you are experienced is totally normal. You had swelling after surgery, that's why you weren't hungry. The swelling has gone down so your appetite came back. Feeling full 30 minutes after is normal too. They say it takes at least 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain it's full. Sounds like you are sticking to a good eating plan even though your hungry, keep up the good work!

I have experienced the same thing. For me, it's either eating too fast or eating the wrong thing (bread, pasta). Sounds like you may be a little to tight since your taking small bites and chewing well. Have you had a fill recently? I would talk to your doc. about what's going on. Feel better soon!

Sooo confused about my last fill!! HELP!
vlp1968 replied to Princess_Gottalose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have experienced the same thing. Being very hungry, getting a slight fill (once it was only .1 cc). The fills put me over the edge and was sick. Doc. ended up taking more out than he put in. However, for some reason I had restriction after that. I would go in and talk to your doc. He could put less than .5 in and see how you do. Good luck! -

Already Feeling Discouraged
vlp1968 replied to DebH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be discouraged. They put saline in your iv after surgery, that is probably why you only lost 4 pounds. I think 600 calories is too low. Your body may be in starvation mode. I would try uping your calories to about 1200 and see how you do. Also, if your cleared for it, start excerisisng. It was key in my weight loss. Good luck on your journey! -
What a great idea to look it up online. No wonder the more weight you loose, the more energy you have. Keep up the good work!

What are the signs the band has slipped???
vlp1968 replied to GipsyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my doc. about it. He said if the band slips you suddendly can't keep anything down, even water. I would call your doc. about the flu if you are vomiting. Vomiting can cause a slip, the doc. can call in a prescription to help with that. Feel better soon. -
Glad to hear the band is working well for you!

sounds like you are on a good track- keep it up!

Body changes with exercise vs no exercise
vlp1968 replied to isaviolinist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think loosing weight with excersise has a differnt effect on the body than loosing it without. It's not in your head. You are building lean muscle, wich takes up less room on the body than fat. You are doing great, keep up the good work! -
What has been your weight loss?
vlp1968 replied to 4them's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair was coming out- lots in the shower drain- so I went to my dermatologist. He told me your body goes into a kind of shock from rapid weightloss. To my relief, he informed me I will not go bald. He also said it could be thyroid, so I agree with the above poster. -
Woke up this morning and was in the 130's!!!!yay
vlp1968 replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been maintaining for a couple months now. I eat very similar to how I did when I was loosing. I added some good carbs and fat. I also added a snack. I didn't need an unfill to be able to add some calories. You are so close to goal, keep up the good work! -
3 weeks Post-Op Gain 4lbs Help
vlp1968 replied to Timoyal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is still healing and adjusting to your new diet. Give it time. I know it's hard to be patient but just know you are doing the right things. Try not to get on the scale more than once a week, the natural flucuations will drive you crazy. Good luck and keep us posted on how your doing. -
Wow- your principal is tough! I think your best bet, as already suggested, is to get up earlier and walk. Doesn't sound like a gym will work for you. Start out slow and gradually increase your speed and/or time. You may even build up to going to a jog for a few minutes, then walk for a few minutes. This is called interval training, and is suppossed to burn more fat. You can do this! I hope your union is successful it getting your principal to have more reasonable expectations. Good luck!

I think a warm bath is a great idea- keep you busy and relaxed. It's normal for the band to be tighter in the morning, then loosen up. I eat nuts before bed- very filling. I suggest you eat your designated amount for the day, then brush your teeth. Drinking lots of water will help too. I think you just have to tell yourself it's not an option to eat anymore. Think of how good it feels to see that scale move and your clothes get looser. You don't want to ruin what has been a good day. Hope this helps. Good luck!

NSV I actually went to the gym.
vlp1968 replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You took a huge step! Excersise has too many benefits not to do it. Weight loss is just one of them. Congrats! -
If your finding yourself getting a bit hungrier I would talk to your doc. about a fill. Also, changing up your excersise and calorie intake may help. Do different cardio. Eat different calories each day, say 1200 one day, 900 the next et.. Hope the rest of the weight comes off soon!

where are you a year (or 2 or 3) later?
vlp1968 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Just wanted to check in with fellow Nov. bandsters. How are you doing with eating right and working out? I am doing well. I eat low carb, low fat, high protien. I am working out about 5 days a week cardio and workout with a trainer doing weights 3 times a week. Look forward to hearing from you. -
That's great! Hope you feel better soon.

Need suggestion, problems getting fluids down
vlp1968 replied to WeSue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agee, call your doctor, maybe they didn't take enough out. Or, your trouble could be due to swelling from surgery. I would see what the doc. says.
