Total Unfill The Week Before Thanksgiving - YIKES!
vlp1968 replied to JaffreyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep eating the right foods, even if your portions are larger than what you will have with restriction. Also, you may want to "cheat" a little on turkey day. I think that is ok, but watch the leftovers. I did weight watchers once and they said it's a holiday not a holiweek! You can get through this time, stay focused on your goals. Hope it all goes well. Dec. 1 will be here before you know itl. -
Sliming is when "slime" comes out when you "throw up". I guess it's mucus. PB is when stuck food comes out. Basically it's spitting up. The offending food comes out fairly gently. There aren't any heaves involved. I cough alot to make the food come up. I feel fine afterwards. At least this is my experience.

Hungry, Hungry Hippo!!!
vlp1968 replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. Restriction will come. For now, I would focus on eating the right things, even if your portions are larger than they will be once you are restricted. I also highly reccomend the South Beach diet. Good luck! -
How long before you know if.....
vlp1968 replied to MaineJackie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the feeling comes on gradually. I have learned to stop eating as soon as I feel stuck. Sometimes walking around until I burp makes the feeling go away. Other times it has to come up. -
Feeling full faster but not satisfied?? :*(
vlp1968 replied to BillyTheBear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have felt the same way to an extent. I find I am not feeling "satisfied" when I eat. However I am not hungry anymore. The band really works in the morning, but by the end of the day I get pretty hungry. I just got used to the fact I won't feel that pleasant satisfied feeling you get from a nice large meal, but not so large you feel sick. The band has changed my relationship with food. Best wishes! -
Thoughts on nutrients, fast food addiction, this forum and willpower.
vlp1968 replied to WrenBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the idea of food addiction. I have several addiction issues, and consider food one of them. Luckily I have tivo so I can pretty much avoid the food comercials. I disagree that this site is not a praise site. I think it's great when people post there accomplishements, especially when it doesn't have to do with the number on the scale. -
I was hungry about 3 days after surgery. Following the post-op diet wasn't real hard. I just knew I had to follow orders until my stomach was healed. I had no problems keeping down liquids or mushies or solid food when I got to that stage. Good luck on your journey! Keep us posted on how your doing.

Yes, I think you may not be eating enough. Sounds like you are too tight. You should be able to eat at least about 4oz at a meal. You may want to think about having an unfill. That may solve your Thanksgiving day problem too, you will be able to eat. Stick to turkey and veggies and you should be fine. If anyone questions you, just say something like "I am watching what I eat". Enjoy the holiday!

Life after surgery and b4 your first fill
vlp1968 replied to mnguest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told protein shakes for the first week, mushies for the second. I then went in for a checkup and was cleared for solid food. The diet wasn't hard to stick to, I felt like it just wasn't an option to go off the post-op diet. I got hungry about 3 days post-op. Took 3 fills to get restriction. -
Help! Don't know what to do :(
vlp1968 replied to Princess_Gottalose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have experienced the same thing. One day able to eat with no problems, others not able to keep anything down. There were times I almost called to go in for an unfill, but then things got better. Right now I am in a pretty good place, hope it stays that way. I think you are right in that you don't have a slip. Above advice can't hurt, make sure to take small bites and chew well. Also, I have found I can't tolerate bread or pasta, there might be some foods you just don't tolerate. Pay attention to what your eating that doesn't stay down. Good luck! -
How can you tell if you were overfilled?
vlp1968 replied to Cudleeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the above post, you may need to have some fluid taken out. Even a very small unfill can make a world of difference. When was your last fill? If it was more than 4 days or so, I would call your doctor. I hope you are keeping fluids down. If your not, call your doctor right away. You don't want to get deydrated. I hope you feel better soon. -
I was on mushies over thanksgiving last year. I ate sweet mashed potatoes at the big meal and regular mashed potatoes the next day. I was so excited about my band I didn't even feel deprived. Enjoy the holiday!

Help! Any info will be appreciated.
vlp1968 replied to bluemoon1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can loose weight before restriction if you eat right (low carb, low fat) and excersise. Be aware that restriction may not happen at the first fill, for many it takes several fills. Took me 3. Know it will happen, may take a little patience. Good luck on your journey. -
That's great. Keep up the good work!

What kind of diet are you following
vlp1968 replied to tabatha lynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
isaviolinist- great advice, you are doing well and it is showing with weight loss. 10 pounds a month is fantastic. I too have lost weight successfully. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. I eat lowfat, lowcarb, high protien. Losts of chicken, fish, tuna, boca burgers. I drink a protein shake for breakfast (i am pretty tight in the morning. For snacks I eat nuts, beef jerky, cheese sticks. I workout doing cardio about 5 days a week and do weights with a trainer 3 days a week. I don't eat sweets or fried foods. I pretty much stay away from high sugar and/or high fat foods. Just what works for me. Since I am maintaining I introduced whole grains and healthy fat. I think everyone needs to find a plan that works for them. I feel like I am not able to do some things in moderation, so I just stay away all together. Good luck on your journey! -
If you need a fill I would start there. Also changing up your excersise may help. Varying your calories from day to day (ie. 1100 one day, 900 the next) may help too. It's about tricking your body so it will let go of that last bit of fat. Good luck!

How are your meds? I have bi-polar and know how important being on the right meds at the right does is. I also agree whole heartedly with the above post, get moving. Just make yourself do it, it's not an option not to. It will spur on weight loss and help your mood as well. Good luck!

Sorry you are having a hard time. I hope it works out soon! Good luck!

Freaked out by food getting stuck and throwing up!
vlp1968 replied to irisheyesrsmylng's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you might be too tight- you shouldn't be throwing up. As you said, eating too fast can also be the problem. It might help to have snacks if your not already. If you don't let yourself get too hungry it should be easier to eat slower. -
Surgery was January 2010, weightloss has stalled!
vlp1968 replied to krstjump03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great your working out! I think you know what you need to do- eat the right foods and continue with the right portions. Cut out the sweets. Being halfway is awsome! You can loose the next half too. Good luck! -
So here is a question, are you rewarding yourself at your goals?
vlp1968 replied to Cangel76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having plastic surgery as my big reward for reaching goal-tummy tuck and breast augmentation. I also went shopping for new clothes. I didn't reward steps along the way- but posted them here. -
Does anyone ever NOT get a fill?
vlp1968 replied to BostonPA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have good restriction, I don't think you need a fill. Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones that hit restriction right away. I think you are doing great! Don't mess with what's not broken. Being overfilled is miserable for sure. Keep up the good work. -
I disagree with the posters about waiting it out several weeks. I don't think it would take that long for your stomach to settle down. I know how it is to hesitate on an unfill, I have done the same thing. Each time I ended up giving in and getting an unfill. I was miserable for nothing. I still had restriction after each unfill. Your fillls are much cheaper than mine. I am self-pay and they cost me 146 dollars, and that's with the surgean fee waved for the first year. I would get an unfill as soon as possible. Until then, stick to protein shakes and water. Like others have said, you don't want to get dehydrated. Hope you feel better soon!

meal and diet suggestions needed.
vlp1968 replied to qwiksilva1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat a lot of chicken and fish too. I also like lean pork loin. It comes in different flavored marinades. I like the honey mustard and terriaky. You don't say if your working out. If your not, I would start. It really works wonders for weight loss. Start slow and gradually increase your duration and/or intensity. I would also journal what you eat, then you can see what your eating. I did it on paper but lots of people like to use apps online. One is fitday.com. Hope this helps.
