Sorry you are having a hard time. Are you journaling your inake? That can really help. I agree that doing the preop diet for a few days may help. Try not to beat yourself up about the bad choices over the holidays. Its so hard when there is temptation around every corner. Are you excersising? If not I highly reccomend it- it is a huge piece of the puzzle. Since your life is so busy it will take some planning on your part to stick to a healthy diet. Can you bring your lunch to work? Pack it up the night before. I like to plan in the morning pretty much what I will eat all day- that way I can be sure to get in all my protien, appropriate carbs and fat et... I even think about what time I will eat. I don't think it's obbsessing, just planning. My last thought is, do you need a fill? If your experiencing a lot of hunger I would talk to your doc. about it. Best wishes! You can do it!

Great to hear about all the accomplishments. I also love shopping now. I now shop in the petite section ( I am 4'11") and actually have a little trouble finding clothes small enough for me. I never thought that would happen. I am so happy I got banded. Here are some things that have happened: increased confidence will start to date move around soooo much easier eat to live, not live to eat off all my meds for diebetes, high cholesteral and high blood pressure enjoy excersise- well most of the time lol

Starting an excersise program is key to effective weight loss. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. That's about 10 pounds per month, so your 50 to-60 goal in 6 months should be doable. I at lowcarb, lowfat and high protien. Good for you getting back on track! Good!

I don't believe that creams or excersise reduce excess skin. Once that skin looses it's elactisity it's gone. Surgery is the only answer imho. I just had a tummy tuck and bood job- I am thrilled with the results.

I get EAS Myolplex lite- cholate is my favorite flavor. I buy them by the case at Sams- or you can get them at Walmart. The make a lowcarb version as well. 20 gms of protein. Hope this helps.

You don't say how much you lost- but whatever it is is great. The first few weeks are for healing, not weight loss. Follow your docs. instructions as far as your intake. Measuring your food and journaling what you eat may help you in eating the correct amount. Excersise is also great, increases your metabolism so you burn more calories all day long. Good luck!

Cereals high in Fiber and low in sugar would be the best. Fiber one, cheerios and shredded wheat are all good choices. Although, they still have a lot of carbs so you may want to eat it in moderation.

You are doing well! Your weight loss is right on track. Sounds like you are being careful cleaning the stalls. I had a tummy tuck and boob job Dec. 1. I can't workout for another 2 weeks. I miss it and can't wait to get back to it. I also know how much it well me maintain my weight. Best wishes!

Fear, Who's afraid of not losing and or gaining it back
vlp1968 replied to ddray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have lost a nice amount of weight since Sept. I would say keep doing what your doing and you will continue to loose. My only advice would be to excersise if you haven't already. I am at goal and have been maintaining since Sept. I fear gaining the weight back. I didn't "cheat" at all while I was loosing. Not once. However lately I have been eating some high fat, high carb food. I had one what I would consider a "binge". I have ordered chinese and been going out to eat. I continue to keep the right stuff in the house. I weigh in everyday and cut back if I hit 112 (I am very short-4'11"). I did pass up a free dessert at Olive Garden the other day. The waitress droped some of my food and the manager came over to apologize and offer the dessert. Without thinking much I said "no thanks, I don't do dessert". This board helps a lot and I hope to be able to make healthy choices most of the time and keep portions correct. -
Trying to make a list, can you help?
vlp1968 replied to B.B.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink Myoplex lite shakes. 20 gms of protien. You can get them by the case at Sams or in packs of 4 at Walmart. I drank 3 a day for the first week post op. Good luck on your journey! -
I ate low carb and low fat- lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. Be sure to get at least 60 gms. of protein in- I ate lots of tuna, fish, chicken breast, lean port loin. I stayed a way from all bread, pasta rice. I ate berries for fruit- they are pretty low in carbs. I was taking in probably about 25-30 carbs a day. Hope this helps. Good luck! Good for you getting back on track.

Thinning hair, suggestions, thoughts
vlp1968 replied to Cangel76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair starting thinning (lots of hair in the shower drain) so I went to the dermatologist. To my relief he said I wouldn't go bald. He said your body goes into a kind of shock due to rapid weight loss and that it would subside. It has gotten much better in the past few months. I am 14 months post op. I was lucky to have started with a pretty thick head of hair. -
"That Full Feeling!?!?"
vlp1968 replied to mhelms_2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was tight I would get an uncomforable feeling in my chest. It would go away in about 15-30 min. I am now maintaining and chose to have quite a bit of an unfill. It is pretty much like I don't have the band anymore. I wanted to be able to eat Breakfast (I was very tight in the morning) and foods like whole wheat Pasta and whole grain bread. I also now get the same feeling of fullness I did before being banded- which I missed a lot. I have been closely monitoring my weight (weighing in every day) and so far am doing well. -
Keep the "fat" comments coming.....
vlp1968 replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't believe what some people think is ok to say. I am glad your not letting it discourage you. However, I think it's something you should get out in the open. Let them know their comments hurt your feelings. I don't think it's ok to let them get away with what they are saying. It is abuse in my book. -
That's great your working out- that would have been my first piece of advice. You might want to change up what your doing. Muscles get used to the same excersise routine. Are you doing cardio? If not, I would start for sure- it burns lots of calories and increases your metabolism. You might also want to try varying your calories from day to day. That is- one day eat 1200 another 900 another 1400. It is suppossed to keep your body guessing about how many calories it will get on any given day. Congrats on the weight you've lost already- try to be patient with that last 15. It will happen. You are doing great!

I have had some vomiting when I am too tight- suffered longer than I needed too because I hesitated to go in for an unfill. Didn't want to be hungry. Overall, it shouldn't happen. When it does, it isn't that bad. It's not like heaves for anything- I cough and the food comes up pretty gently. I wouldn't let it discourage you from gettting banded. Good luck!

I miss the emails too- haven't gotten them since they updated the site. Don't know if there is a way to get them.

For those of you maintaining your weight loss
vlp1968 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I reached my goal about 31/2 months ago. Up until the holidays I avoided all sweets, fried foods et... Didn't step away from the low carb, low fat, high protien diet. I had some treats over the holidays- felt a little out of control at some points. I am confused as to wether I should allow "treats" while maintaining. What do you do? I weigh myself every day and cut back if I gain 3 pounds until I loose it. That has only been neccessary twice. I was doing great working out but haven't for the last month due to plastic surgery. I know I won't keep "bad" stuff in the house but I worry about things like going out to eat or to a party. I have a hard time when the stuff is put infront of me. I have a hard time sticking to a small portion. I tend to eat more than I planned and feel guilty about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -
Wearing old clothes again?
vlp1968 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you excersising this time around? That may make a difference. Also, I think I lost weight a little differently with the high protien diet than I have in the past. If the clothes are discouraging you, I would get rid of them. No sense in keeping something around that is discouraging. -
Trying to get back in the groove
vlp1968 replied to javalishus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's common to get off track during the holidays. There is so much temptation. I know I ate some things I normally stay away from. Don't beat yourself up about it, it's in the past. Focus on the future. Everyday is a new day to do the right things. Every time you eat is an opportunity to feed your body what it needs for good health. I suggest you do a few things- get all the junk out of the house start journaling what your eating get your 60gms of protien. drink at least 64 oz of water a day Excersise at least 3 times a week, Best of luck to you- you can do it! -
YOU ARE GOING TO BE HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY
vlp1968 replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to disagree with Misty. I think it should be understood that advice given is based on experience by a bandster. It is not a substitute for medical expertise. A lot of times I think people are looking for the comfort that they are not alone. Lets keep posts positive, negative ones are simply not helpfull. -
I agree- you probably don't need a fill since your hunger is very much under control. Your doc. will probably want to see you anyway, but honestly I don't think I would bother. Of course, the choice is yours. Congrats on your weight loss.

Did your Dr stop meds gradually?
vlp1968 replied to Southern Leo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had my bp meds cut in half and then discontinued. I was thrilled. Once you loose some weight (maybe 30 pounds or so,)- and hopefully start excersising- I would make an appt. with your primary. Good luck! -
Is it normal to feel this way?
vlp1968 replied to kirbymom02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree about the South Beach diet. It's very healthy and works. Sounds like you have a little restriction since you say you can't eat as much as you used to. 17-20 pounds is great! Sounds like you are right on track. Your first fill may or may not do the trick- everyone is different. It took me 3 fills to get there. Best wishes!
