Crazy appointment with my PCP yesterday..
vlp1968 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you like your pcp except for the ignorant weight loss comments I would just let it roll off my back. You know you are doing all the right things. 8 months to goal is not typical results with the lapband. Best wishes! -
Foods for best weight loss
vlp1968 replied to Yetta2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think lean meat and non-starchy veggies. I love perdue perfect portions- they are marinated chicken breast that come in different flavors. They come individually wrapped, so you can just throw the whole bag in the freezer and defrost one at a time. I also like marinated pork loin- again it comes in different flavors. You just bake it on a baking sheet in the oven for about 45 minutes. I snack on berries, low fat cheese and nuts (1/4 c). Hope this helps! -
Moving quickly without exercise
vlp1968 replied to kittyfran's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awsome you are going to join a gym. Start out slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. Excersise will surely help the pounds to continue to fall off. Never mind the improvement to your cardiovascullar system et.... Nice job! -
Isn't it just the best feeling to fit into smaller sizes. I had the same experience of bringing clothes too big into the dressing room. I think it takes a little time for the mind to catch up to the body. Keep up the good work!

How am I supposed to feel
vlp1968 replied to Amanda1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What your experiencing is totally normal. You probably have swelling from the surgery. I find that since banded I don't have the same full feeling. It's more of a feeling of not being hungry anymore. Congrats on your surgery! -
Another 8 pounds gone!

Fatigue at 10 months out
vlp1968 replied to hiddnstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I found excersise boosts my energy level tremendously. I highly reccomend it. There are just so many benefits to it, including weight loss. Start off slow, being carefull of your knee of course, and gradually increase your duration/intensity. Hope you feel better soon. -
I agree- you didn't gain 5 pounds of fat in a few days. Get back on track and it will fall right off. Best wishes!

You want one that's high in protien- I use Myoplex lite- 20 gms of protien. You can get them at Walmart. They do have 20 carbs. If you are going very low carb Atkins bars are a good choice. Hope this helps.

That's great you have such good support. He sounds like a keeper! Glad your relationship is in a good place.

If the scale is frustrating you I would stop weighing yourself everday for sure. Your weight will naturally flucuate a bit. You may want to put the scale away somewhere so it's not so tempting to hop on it. I think later in the day you weigh more due to food and drink in your stomach. I only weigh in first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom. I got on the scale once a week while I was loosing. I weigh myself everyday now that I am maintaining. I look to stay within a range of a few pounds. I kind of base what I eat (or don't eat) on what the scale says.

How much weight have you lost? I am tired of this question!
vlp1968 replied to Keia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally- I am very proud of the weight I have lost and don't mind the question. However, if I did I would probably say- I don't weigh myself, but I am feeling great. If that's all you give them they will probably stop asking. Just a thought- best wishes. -
Hang in there! It does get better. Until you reach restriction, I would concentrate on eating the right foods- high protien, low carb, low fat. Your portions may be larger than they will be when you have restriction, but at least you shouldn't gain. I know it's hard, but you'll get through what is known as "bandster hell". It took me 3 fills to feel restriction. Good luck! One more thing, if your not excersising I would start. It works wonders for weight loss. The benefits are just too numerous to pass up. Start out slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. You can do this!

NSV - I'm super excited!!!
vlp1968 replied to Timoyal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't fitting into smaller clothes just the best feeling! I think it meant more to me than seeing the number on the scale move. Keep up the excellent job! -
Keep in mind everyone is different. It took me 3 fills to get restriction. I don't think many people feel a difference after 1 fill, but maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. Hang in there, restriction will come.

Way to go! You are doing awsome. That's great to focus on nsv's, especially when the damn scale just isn't moving. Keep doing what your doing and the scale will reflect it.

Are you hungry between meals? I wonder if you need a slight unfill- and that will make eating the healthy stuff more tolerable. Yes, junk does go down easily doesn't it? Just melts in your mouth. Personally, while I was loosing I stayed away from junk (anything high fat and/or high carb). You may find if you do this, your cravings will subside. Best wishes!

I find that nuts really fill me up- I measure 1/4 c. and eat them for a snack in the afternoon.

Hi all, I have been in maintaince mode since Sept., having reached my goal. I had a couple bad days and gained like 2 pounds. Over the last three days I have been very much back on track, eating like I did when I was loosing. However, each day I have gained 1/2 pound. 1/2 pound wouldn't worry me, but it happened 3 days in a row- 1.5 pounds seems signicant to me. Anyway, I went on an antiobiotic (cypro) for a UTI the other day and wonder if that could be it. Anyone know if antiobiotics can cause weight gain?
-
While I was loosing I ate very low carb-about 30-40 gms a day. The carbs I got were from non starchy veggies, berries, and nuts have a few carbs. I lost 107 pounds in 10 months. I also watched my fat intake- although I didn't track it. I stuck with very lean protien options such as chicken, fish and lean pork loin. Snacking on nuts was my only significant source of fat. Congrats on your surgery and good luck.

Pinch me I must be dreaming!
vlp1968 replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's awsome! It feels so good to fit into smaller sizes. Keep up the great work! -
Good for you. Not knowing what to say when complimented is a nice problem to have. Don't feel like you have to tell them about your band, it's your bussiness. I like the idea of just saying your watching your carbs and eating less. Also- as a response to a compliment, I usually say something like "thanks for noticing". Best wishes!

Awsome! I know how excited I was to get off my bloodpressure, diebetes and high cholesteral meds. It was a great doctor visit! Congratulations!

Minor Meltdown in Dressing Room
vlp1968 replied to emsbugbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awsome! Keep up the good work. When I went shopping after reaching goal I kept taking sizes that were way to big into the dressing room. It was a great feeling. -
That's a great NSV- keep up the good work!
