Tape Measure Moving but Scale Is not
vlp1968 replied to agdunkle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a good thing for sure! You want to be smaller, not neccesarily lighter, no one can see that lol. -
Congrats! It is so exciting to fit into smaller clothes. I found myfelf bringing sizes that were way to big into the dressing room when I shopped after reaching goal.

Getting my 1st fill 2 days before vacation
vlp1968 replied to giogirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Especially since you already have 6 cc I would hold off until after your vacation. You don't want to be out of town and find your too tight. Also, it might be hard to stick to liquids then mushies while your on vacation. At the very least, let your doctor know about your plans if you decide to go in. -
Son of a Gun, Think I'm Too Tight!!!
vlp1968 replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you are tight. I would call your doc. and talk about how your doing and what should happen next in terms of an unfill. -
6 week surgiversary.....Stopped losing weight
vlp1968 replied to firstlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
13 pounds in a month or so is great! Keep doing what your dong and you will see results. My one piece of advice is to keep uping your workouts, gradually increasing time/intensity. Ideally, you want to work up a sweat. Good luck! -
I'd like your tips, tidbits, stories, experiences, advice..
vlp1968 replied to Yasuna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 2 pieces of advice, excersise as soon as your doc. clears you. It works wonders for weight loss. As far as diet, I eat high protien- lean sorces like chicken breast and fish. I eat lots of non-starchy veggies. When I was loosing I ate very low carb- no bread, pasta, potatoes et.. at all. Now I eat them in moderation. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. Hope this helps! -
Doctor Scale and Home Scale - which is correct?
vlp1968 replied to healthyroad69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a big believer in weighing in once a week- on the same scale first thing in the morning. I believe scales are different and your weight if afected by food and drink you may have had. -
I have a confession to make...
vlp1968 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, I would find a counselor who specializes in eating disorders. You need to get in touch with your emotions, and find alternative ways of dealing with them. Good luck! -
Day 11 Postop...somewhat discouraged
vlp1968 replied to jbaker5d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there is right! You are doing all the right things, the scale will show it. Just give it a little time. Your body is adjusting to huge changes. Be sure to excersise once you get clearance from the doc. It works wonders for weight loss! Best wishes. -
Woke up pain free for first time! And fill scheduled..YAY!
vlp1968 replied to bzbrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you are doing so much better. The fill is easy- I was never told not to eat before but follow what they say I guess. The nurse or doc. will numb the area and then acess the port- the needle is kinda long but you won't feel a thing. It's over and done with very quickly. Good luck. -
Surgery 4/18....getting prepared, prep help.....
vlp1968 replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bring lip balm to the hospital. You wont' be able to eat or drink anything until they do an xray and make sure everything is placed correctly. Your lips will get dry. Congrats on your impending surgery! -
DOES PROTEIN REALLY MATTER.......!!???????
vlp1968 replied to caramellyregina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes protien makes a difference. It will help you feel full longer and keep you from loosing muscle. I was told 60 gms but I think the more the better. I go for lean sources of protien like fish and chicken. Protien shakes can help up your protien level, especially if you don't have much of an appetite. Best wishes! -
I feel like I am myself depriving of food so i binge eat
vlp1968 replied to MoMa1640's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Therapy with someone who specializes in eating disorders may be something to think about. You may uncover reasons you overeat. Is there a weight loss surgery support group in your area? I attend one and find it helps a lot. Good luck! -
need idea for exercise dvd
vlp1968 replied to MaineJackie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely love an old Jane Fonda step aerobic tape from the 80's. You can find it on ebay, whoops I just realized it won't be on dvd, just vhs. My uncle put the vhs on a dvd for me. If you would like to private message me your address I can send you the dvd, I do the treadmill now. I think you could pick up a step at target or a sporting goods store. If your just starting to workout you can do it on the floor then add the step as your fitness improves. It doesn't require a lot of room either. Can't say enough about what a good workout it is, and kinda fun too. Best wishes! -
Anyone need a food related laugh this morning?
vlp1968 replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great. Nice story. -
Your weight loss is great! 25 pounds in a month is awsome! Sorry to say, your first fill probably won't make you feel any different. For a lucky few it does. It took me 3 fills to feel any restriction. As far as the procedure, it's fairly easy. The doc. (or nurse if that's who does it at your office) will inject something to numb you, then use a needle to access the port. The needle is kind of long, but don't worry, you won't feel anything. At least that is my experience. Good luck and please don't be down on yourself, you are doing just great.

Dr. Oz about WLS Monday
vlp1968 replied to 123crod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that what they ate isn't the norm. 4 tablespoons of yourgurt and broth? Where's the protien? In my experience, I have never felt full on such little food. I did think Dr. Oz did a good job presenting the pros and cons. -

Recommitment to the cause!!
vlp1968 replied to Nicynoo1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The basic premise of weight loss is that you need to burn more calories than you take in. That being said, I believe sticking to a low carb/low fat diet speeds weight loss. Eat lots of lean protien like chicken and fish. Stick with non starchy vegitables- no corn, potatoes et..) Also, excersise is vital to weight loss. Start out slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. Hope this helps and good luck! -
I remember how excited I was to get my first fill. However, it took 3 fills for me to feel any kind of restriction. For some lucky people one fill does it. I hope that happens to you, just be aware it may not. Good luck in your journey!

Goal is close, how to maintain
vlp1968 replied to thmsdoyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may find if you continue how your eating, your weight loss stops. If it doesn't, and you can't eat anymore you may need a slight unfill. Congrats on being so close to goal! -
I eat 5-6 times a day. As an above poster, I eat cheese stick and nuts (1/4 c) for snacks. From what you wrote, you are doing just great. Keep up the good work!

Yikes !! ..First Fill.
vlp1968 replied to Huggles1951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may have some swelling from the fill. It may improve after a few days. In the meantime I might to liquids for a couple days. If it doesn't get better in 2-3 days I would go in for a slight unfill. Hope you feel better soon.
