Lifted spirits
vlp1968 replied to futurelooksbright09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 pounds is great! Keep up the good work. -
For me, I throw up when I get stuck. Sometimes I have to kind of make myself throw up by coughing. Like said above, you should be on liquids for now. My doc. said liquids for a week, mushies for a week then solid food. I didn't get stuck at all at first. It happened when I had a fill that was too much. Good luck on your journey!

Please Help me.....
vlp1968 replied to shutterbug6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have the option to put it off a week, I would. Everybody recovers differently, you don't want to do too much too soon. Personally, I probably could have done a road trip a few days out, but I tend to have a high pain tolerance and do well with anethesia. As others have mentioned, be sure not to drive while taking pain meds. Congrats on your impending surgery. Also, if you decide to have surgery, then go away for the weekend, bring a pillow to put inbetween your tummy and the seatbelt. I found the jostiling of the car a bit painfull. -
By the name, I am guessing it is quite low in fat. It's not surprising you were always hungry, fat helps us feel full. You also want to make sure you are getting in at least 60gms of protien. Personally, I swear by a low carb, high protein and moderate fat diet. I eat cheese and nuts which contain some fat. I go for lean sources of protien like chicken and fish. I also love marinated pork tenderloin. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I would have been fine to go to work after 5 days as long as it wasn't a physical job. Doesn't sound like yours is. If you are just sitting during training lectures I think you will be fine. However, as has been stated, everyone is different. Congrats on both your surgery and new job.

Getting/Staying Motivated
vlp1968 replied to TracyNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's good your in therapy. Keep up the walking! I would get the junk out of the house, if it's not there you have to go to a bit more effort to eat something not on a healthy eating plan. Focus on eating the right foods, even if your portions are larger than they will be once you have restriction again. Sorry you are having a tough time, try not to be too hard on yourself. Take care. -
Appetite after banding.
vlp1968 replied to Leeyahh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have no appetite, and are getting sick once in a while, I would not get a fill. Talk to your surgeon about the throwing up. Is it certain foods like bread or pasta or are you maybe not chewing enough. Take care. -
Can I take time off?
vlp1968 replied to Hopes of a Dream!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's ok to go a little easy on yourself while you work out your school stuff. I would monitor your weight closely- maybe weighing in everyday. Your goal can be not to gain any weight, keep it in a range of about 3 pounds. Focus on eating the right things, even if your portions are larger than they will be when you are less stressed. Also, looking at other ways besides eating to relieve stress would be great. I agree with the above post that excersise is a great stress reliever, not to mention the calories burned. Something like yoga or meditation is something else to try. Best wishes! -
I lost some hair after about 7 months p;ost op. I went to the dermatologist and he assured me I wouldn't go bald- much to my relief. He said it was my body going into shock after rapid weight loss. After about another 3 months the loss stopped. I was lucky to start out with a pretty thick head of hair.

after sugery intimacy...
vlp1968 replied to ShrnkN2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with above post, "try a different spin" AKA try different positions. Have fun! -
I have had sudden tightness sometime after a fill, but not as long as you. My dr. took some fluid out and I was fine. I would go back to your doc. and describe what's been going on. I can't imagine why he won't take a bit out.

Nearly 2 years post lapband; semi failure
vlp1968 replied to TooFat4Ever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It might not be what you want to hear, but I think your nutritionist is right. You need to change your diet and/or up your excersise. Weight loss comes down to burning more calories than your taking in. Going on a liquid diet (high protien shakes) may jump start something for you. I find that can help me get back on track. Good luck! -
Good for you gettting back on track! Keep up the good work.

That's awsome! I too fit into small sizes and got off all my meds so I know how good that feels. Keep up the good work!

CALLING ALL HUGE WEIGHT LOSS PEOPLE
vlp1968 replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. I ate very low carb and low fat. Lots of lean sources of protien and veggies. After a few months I started working out. I started out walking on the treadmill, gradually increasing the intensity/duration. Now I walk for 1 minute jog for 4 for 40 minutes. It was very difficult to start working out but now it's second nature, just part of my day. Good luck! -

Sorry you are having so much trouble. I hope your surgery goes well! -
I would add to figure the wine into your calorie consumption for the day. You should be fine. Enjoy

vlp1968 replied to ADifferentAlli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! Restriction will come. It took me 3 fills to feel any restriction. Keep up the good work sticking to your eating plan. Continue to follow your dr. instructions. Congrats on the weight loss so far! -
I keep getting stuck! Help!
vlp1968 replied to Ms_C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to the doc. for an unfill for sure. You have suffered a long time. I would think if you are still getting sick he will surely do an unfill. Discuss with him how much to remove, describe what's going on. -
regret city....what have i done?
vlp1968 replied to brooklynn2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are having a hard time. I think what your feeling is perfectly normal. You are giving up a good friend- food. As far as bread goes, I couldn't eat it while I was loosing- got stuck every time. However, since I reached goal I keep my band very loose and can now ieat bread and pasta- as long as I chew well enough. So I am saying, it's not forever. Once you have restriction and are loosing weight I hope you feel differently. Best wishes! -

Low Carb, High Protein Diet
vlp1968 replied to kdyke111909's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did lowcarb/high protein. I ate lots of fish and chicken. Also marinated pork loin and flavored chicken sausage. I snack on nuts, cheese sticks and berries. I ate only non-starchy veggies. Hope this helps. -
I started seeing lots of hair in the shower frain and noticed my hair getting thinner. I went to the dermatologist and he said not to worry, I wouldn't go bald.. He said your body goes into shock with such rapid weight loss and that causes some hairloss. For me I would say it started about 6 months after surgery and lated about 6 months.
