Fill Too Tight or just swellling?
vlp1968 replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice is since it's getting better, I would wait out the weekend. Stick to liquids if you are feeling really tight. Call Tue. morning if your not better. Best wishes. -
I am so sorry you are having a hard time. I have to say, I was successful in loosing my excess weight, but the band wasn't the tool I hoped it would be. I spent a lot time either hungry or getting sick. Did slight fills that caused me to be way to tight, even though I was hungry a lot before the fill. I was in a good place for a few weeks here and there, but I feel like I did it on my own for the most part. I kinda wish I had given it one more try before having surgery. I hadn't gotten on a healthy eating plan or excersised in years. I don't know much about the sleeve so I really can't comment on that. Just wanted you to know your not the only one who doesn't get good restriction with the band. Good luck!

Recent surgical patient worried about slippage
vlp1968 replied to lapbandpatient's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are just fine. I was on solids 2 weeks out and had no problems. My doc. said full liquids for a week, then mushies for a week, then onto solids. Seems like a lot of doctors call for more times on liquids/mushies. I would call your doctor and see if you can progess on to solids. On a side note, be careful about bread. It's an easy food to get stuck, and has lots of carbs. Congrats on your surgery and good luck. -
Calorie Counting VS Smaller Portion Sizes
vlp1968 replied to lea3277's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I counted calories and protien for the first 4 months or so postop. Now I don't track anything. It started to feel too much like a diet for me. I got into a routine in terms of my meals and planned snacks. I was successful in loosing all my excess weight, 107 pounds in about 10 months. I agree, everyone needs to find what works for them. Good luck! -
ONEDERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vlp1968 replied to dlynn1635's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing awsome! It's a real milestone to get to onederland. Keep up the good work! -
I second the protien drinks. Even if you have to force yourself a little, you want to get in enough calories and protien. Congrats on your surgery. Best wishes.

I agree on the excersise. It is a huge piece of the puzzle. Tracking your food may also be helpful. You may want to concentrate on eating the right foods, even if your portions are larger than they will be once you have restriction. Hang in there, it will come. Good luck!

removal of the lapband
vlp1968 replied to imdeelightful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Instead of having it removed, I would think about a large unfill. That's what I did after maintaining my weight loss for a few months. I wanted to be able to eat in the morning (when I was tight all I could tolerate was a protien shake) and have some bread, pasta, rice. I am happy with the way things are now. Just think of all the money you'll save lol! Good luck in whatever you decide to do. -
Camping trip and week 4
vlp1968 replied to connie sue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems to take 3-4 fills for a lot of people. Your probably hungrier now because the swelling from surgery went down. I would say I really saw a change after I lost about 15 pounds. Congrats on your surgery and keep up the good work. -
I think you are too tight for sure. I have been tight, and hesitated to go to the doc. because I though it might be swelling. Every time I ended up getting an unfill. I suffered longer than necessary. After the unfill I had pretty good restriction. I would call for an appt. monday morning. Tell them it's an emergency if they give you any trouble with fitting you in. My doc.'s office was really good about that. The doc even came in from the hospital on a day he's usually not in the office. Hope you feel better soon!

1st Fill and out to dinner
vlp1968 replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
glad things are going so well for you! Keep up the good work! -
I think it's the food in your stomach causing problems for sure. If you stop eating right before you go to bed you should be fine.

Onderland is when the first number of your weight is a 1- you are out of the 200's. A milestone for many people.

Sorry you are having a hard time. That's great you are motivated to get back on track. Logging your food is a great idea. You may be surprised at how many calories your taking in. I would reduce fat and carbs as well. I have eggs almost evey morning and lean meat and a veggie for dinner. I snack on nuts, beeries and lowfat cheese sticks. Excersise is a huge piece of the puzzle. It comes down to calories in, calories out. When you burn 36000 more than you take in you loose weight. Start out slow and gradually increas your speed/duration. You can do it! Keep up posted on how your doing.

Wow! 5' at 100 pounds. I am 4'11" and weight around 115. I wear size 0 at banana republic and chicos. In regular petites I wear a size 4. I cannot even begin to imagine being under a hundred pounds. My BMI is 23-anything below 25 is in the normal range.

10 days post op, same weight...
vlp1968 replied to pinknsassyemt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another thing to think about is that they put saline in your iv at the hospital. I wonder if that's why the scale hasn't moved, water retention. I know it's discouraging to be taking in so little and not see the scale move. Just know that if you keep doing all the right things it will eventually. Keep us posted on how your doing! -
Take progression photos of yourself
vlp1968 replied to LVGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took pictures in my bathing suit- I made a scrapbook. The psychologist involved with my wls team suggested taking a picture once a month- I added the suit and the scrapbook. She emphasized not to look at the pics with judgement, just give your brain a chance to keep up with your changing body. -
Need info from those who are struggling with no-restriction
vlp1968 replied to LargeMediumSmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been successful in loosing my excess weight, but the band hasn't been the tool I hoped for. In the process of getting fills/unfills I spent a lot of time either hungry (especially come late afternoon) or getting sick. There didn't seem to be much of a happy medium. I was in a good place for about a month here and there. After maintaining my weight loss for a few months I decided to have a large unfill. I wanted to be able to eat in the morning, before the unfill I was too tight for solids until lunch time, and eat some rice, bread, pasta. Would I do the band again? Probably not. I wish I had given it one more shot on my own, I hadn't "dieted" or excersised in years before I got banded in Nov. 09. Anyway, now my struggle is maintaining my weight loss. I weigh in every day and have managed to stay within about a 5 pound range. -
first fill and having trouble
vlp1968 replied to AprilJoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you have a good plan. You may have swelling from the fill. After my first fill I got in the car and threw up the water they had me drink. I probably should have gone right back in but I didn't. Couldn't keep anything down that night, but in the morning I was fine. If your still having trouble, call on Monday for sure. If your really tight, it may help to water down the protien drinks, it worked for me. Hope you feel better soon! -
you are doing awsome! Keep up the good work.

Yes, call your doc. You want to make sure the surgery is safe. You have the rest of your life a head of you, the few weeks it might take to reschedule is nothing compared to that. I imagine you are very anxcious to get it done- I know I was. Hope you can still go through with it!

When I was loosing, and my band fairly tight, I had a protien shake each morning for breakfast. I highly reccomend that. You should also be eating lunch, you want to keep your metabolism "revved up". How about scammbled eggs or tuna, refried beans, chili, soup for lunch. Something soft should stay down fine. Make sure you are getting all your protien in, even if that means 1 more shake before bed. I know its kind of counterintuitive, but I think you need to eat something through out the day. It may actually help you loose weight by keeping your metabolism high. Good luck!

2nd fill feel restricted....Maybe too much Update 1 CC removed today
vlp1968 replied to JWKJR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't wait too long to think about an unfill. When I was too tight I suffered much longer than neccessary thinking it was swelling. After an unfill, I had good restriction. I wouldn't give it more than about 3 days and see if your better.
