Stalled! Need Suggestions
vlp1968 replied to Lakeshia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think loosing weight has anything to do with luck. It's a matter of taking in less calories than you burn. It takes careful food choices and excersise. -
You may have swelling from the fill. As long as liquids stay down you might want to give it a few days. Sticking with protien shakes for a few days, then trying solid food again might be a good idea. Don't wait too long, I've been there and suffered needlessly. A slight unfill could do the trick. The doc. probably won't take out the whole fill, just a bit. That could put you in the elusive (at least for me) sweet spot. Best wishes.

My Birthday, & I Want Alcohol. Had Lap Band Surgery 11/21/11
vlp1968 replied to DLEMA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to consider that it could really set your weightloss back. Alcohol has lots of calories, and it may reduce your inhibitions enough that you eat things not on your plan. I would tread carefully. You don't want to ruin a whole weeks work in one night. -
5 Months Since Lap Band Surgery And Only Lost 30
vlp1968 replied to KimJ384's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agee- your weight loss is right on target. My 2cents, as it is in many of my posts, is are you excersising. It would really boost that weight loss along. Start slow and gradually increase the time/intensity. I started out walking slowly for 20 minutes on the treadmill. I worked up to a very brisk walk on an incline for 45 or jogging for 30. If you already are working out, bump it up and/or try something new. Best wishes, you are doing great. -
To Soon For Glass Of Wine After My Lap Band Surgery?
vlp1968 replied to Lookaway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my opinion it's not going to harm the band or anything. I would factor in the calories though, and they are empty calories. Use moderation for sure. -

Trying To Find My Way Back
vlp1968 replied to mems's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat as above posters. 2 years out- lost 107, gained back about 25. This week is going great so far. I got back to basics- journaling, making the right food choices and working out. I've lost 4 pounds so far. I agree that doing protien shakes for a couple days or so might help you get back on track. Kind of "cleanse the system". Good luck, you can do it! -
What Is Your Advice about Lap Band Fill ?
vlp1968 replied to futuremodel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, doesn't sound to me like you need a fill. You say you are rarely hungry and kinda force yourself to eat. As long as your not pbing alot or anything I think you are in a very good place. As far as concerns about eating different foods, I think your band will force you to eat carefullly and in small quantiites. I think you will be just fine. Enjoy the Holidays! -
Am I Loosing Enough Weight Fast Enough?
vlp1968 replied to betinaraquel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is my advice, 2 things. One is to eat a lowcarb/low fat/high protien diet. I eat eggs or a protien shake for breakfast, lean meat and a non-starchy veggie for lunch and dinner. I snack on a 1/4c nuts 2-3 times a day. I also include 2 cheese sticks in one of those snacks. Very rote, but it works for me. The other piece is working out. If your not doing it already, I highly reccomend you start. Start out slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. You can do it! -
I have been really struggling since I went away the begining of oct. Never really got back on track with diet and excerisise and then it was Thanksgiving. I have had a great day today, going back to basics. Journaling, weighing in once a week, excersise and lots of fluids. I lost 107 pounds- weighed 110 (I'm really short) decided to maintain at 115. I was 135 this morning. Uggg 20 pounds and Christmas is right around the corner. My plan is to stay focused until then, enjoy the holiday, but not go overboard, and then of course back on track for the new year. It's scary how fast the weight comes on and how hard it is to loose it. Wish me luck! Thanks for reading.

How Do I Know??
vlp1968 replied to legnarevocrednu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you are doing really well. Yes, hiccups can be a sign to stop eating. It's called a soft sign. Others are burping and a runny nose. Keep up the good work! -

Is This Normal? Stuck After 5 Months With Lap Band
vlp1968 replied to jennypenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tracking your food is a great idea. Also, if your not already, start excersising. There are so many benefits, just one being weight loss. There is something about excersise that helps with food choices. I started out very slowly, walking on a treadmill for 20 minutes. I gradually increased my duration/intensity. I walk on an incline pretty briskly for 45 minutes. It's so tough to get started, at least it was for me, but it's become a matter of routine. You can do it! -
About 6 months post op I started loosing hair. I went to the dermatologist and he said it was from rapid weight loss. He said your body goes into a kind of shock. It stopped a couple months later. I didn't take any kind of supplement, and ate about 80 gms of protien a day. I was lucky to have started out with a pretty thick head of hair.

How Often Do You Weigh In?
vlp1968 replied to Dawn200321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was loosing, I weighed in once a week and recorded it. While maintaining I weigh myself every day. I try not to let the natural flucuations drive me crazy. I think it's important that I stay within a range of a few pounds. That being said, I have had a hard time the last couple months, went to Europe and haven't seemed to really get back on track since. Now it's Thanksgiving and I'm about 15 pounds above my target weight uggg. I hope I can turn it around inbetween Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am going to go back to once a week weigh ins. Also start journaling like I was before. I figure what I was doing was working, so I should do that again to get the 15 pounds off. -
Excellent! Fitting into smaller clothes is just the best feeling! I think it's as good as, if not better, than the scale moving. Congrats! Keep up the good work.

After Post-op Meals
vlp1968 replied to newlybanded22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think lean meat and veggie. I eat chicken, fish, porkloin, tuna. For breakfast I have either a protien shake or eggs. I snack on 1/4c nuts and 2 cheese sticks. Pretty rote, but it works for me. Good luck and congrats on your surgery. -
LapBand Talk.com gets a "New " Face Lift..
vlp1968 replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
New look is ok. I really like that the message is included in email notifications. I don't like that you can't just put your curser on the post title and read it- you have to open it up. -
I would get a new scale. I too weigh myself every day. Mine seems accurate. If I don't like what I see, I try again, but it always comes up the same lol.
-
Doesn't sound like you need a fill. You are staying full for 4-5 hours on a 1/2c food- that sounds perfect. I think you are right about the carbs- I would cut out the crackers et.. I bet you will see that scale move. You can do it!

I just want to reiterate what was said in a previous post- a fill the day before flying across the country is probably not a good idea. You could end up to tight, and not be able to keep things down. In my experience I was fine the day/night of the fill but woke up in the morning and couldn't keep my coffee down. I'd hate for that to happen to you so far away from home. I strongly reccomend you wait until you return to have your fill. Just think, you won't have to worry about the liquid diet- but you did get some great ideas. Do what you think is best, I would tell your doc. about your plans.

A Tiny Thanksgiving Dilemma
vlp1968 replied to legnarevocrednu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would go- seems like you really want to. I agree, it's nobody's business but yours. Are you doing protien shakes right away? I did, but every doctor is different. I would bring over whatever it is your doc. has you drinking and say you are looking to loose weight. Not a lie at all. Hopefully, that will be the end of it. -
It's been 2 years today!
vlp1968 replied to vlp1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much!!! Your note made my day! What a compliment. As may have been apparent in my post, I have been doubting myself a little. But look at how far I've come! that's what I need to focus on. I walked on the treadmill on an incline for 45 minutes today, first time in a few weeks. It felt great. I went a little slower than I was doing, but I'll build it back up over the course of the next week or so. Ate well too! I plan to stay 100% with the plan until Thanksgiving. I hope I can just hop right back on track after the holiday. Thanks for your inspiration! -
Hi all, Well today is my 2 year bandversarry. I can't believe it's been that long. I lost my excess weight pretty quickly, 107 pounds in about 10 months. I ate lowcarb/lowfat/high protien/low cal. A protien shake for Breakfast, lean meat (chicken, fish, pork loin) and not-starchy veggies. I had one snack of 1/4c nuts and 2 cheese sticks. Very rote, but it worked well for me. That being said, the band wasn't the tool I hoped it would be. For the most part, I was either very hungry or getting sick. I did have a few weeks here and there where I was in a good spot. I was self-pay and the money was a huge motivator. Right now I am struggling a bit with maintainance. I am 15 pounds heavier than I want to be as of this morning. I am worried about the holidays coming up. I did the treadmill for 45 minute today. First time in a while. I have had a hard time getting back on track since a trip over seas last month. Hopefully today is the day. I have a week until Thanksgiving. Thanks for "listening". Any comments/advice on weight maintainance would be greatly appreciated.
