I finally had a good week eating and excersise wise. Lost 4.5 pounds. It feels really good. I am doing a pretty much south beach diet. The good fats and good carbs. Counting calories, keeping at about 1200. Doing cardio about 5 days a week and weight training with a trainer 4 days. I am journaling everything I eat. I was off track for months, starting with a trip to Europe the beggining of oct. Before I - knew it, it was Thanksgiving and then Christmas. 25 pounds later - uggg. The good news is I am feeling back in control.

Surgery Done And Done, Both Doing Well!
vlp1968 replied to bev712's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never really had trouble with pills, even when my band was tighter than what it is now. The only times I had a problem was when my band was too tight after a fill, and nothing was staying down. That is so awsome you and your husband are doing this together! You also did a great thing clearing out the house of everything you won't be eating. I think you both are on the road to success! Make sure to start excersising once your dr. clears you. Maybe you can go on walks, or to the gym together. The whole experience will undoubtedly bring you closer together. -
Newbie With Question About Post-Op Diet
vlp1968 replied to Toddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is confusing that dr's vary so much it the post op diet regiment. I was told 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies then solids. I had no problems. I bet I could have tolerated food after a few days. I would follow your dr.s instructions. -
Yes, fish is probably your best bet. That is less likely to get stuck than chicken or steak. Take small bites and chew. Fish and a non-starchy veggie would be a perfect meal. Also, even if you get stuck, it's really not that bad. At least that's been my experience. I get a pain kind of in my chest and a funny felling in my throat. I then go to the bathrom, cough a bit and it comes right up. Its not like vomiting, say when you have the flu, there's no heaving. Again, this is just my experience. Enjoy your evening out.

Post Lap Band..can You
vlp1968 replied to Amanda Ehlich Titus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was tight, I couldn't eat rice, bread or pasta. They all came right back up. Band is looser and I still have trouble sometimes with bread first thing in the morning. It coming up is not that horrible. If you really like rice, I would try it. Be careful of the carbs (ie eat it in moderation) and brown rice has lots more fiber than while rice. -

How Do U Know If U Had A Slip?
vlp1968 replied to tym4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my surgeon, if the band slips you suddently can't keep anything down, even water. -
Help, I'm Gaining Weight!!!
vlp1968 replied to JennK2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it could be your thyroid. I lost my insurance at one point and stopped taking my thyroid medicine. I swelled up big time. I wasn't weighing myself back then, but I am sure I gained tons. Your issue deffinately seems to be water retention. I wouldn't worry about my weight, keep doing what your doing and get a workup done by your pcp. Good luck! -
I too have been slacking the last few months. Went on a trip to Europe in Oct. then it was Thanksgiving, then Christmas. 30 pounds later uggg. I was in a pattern of depriving myself (ultra low carb, low fat, low cal, high protien diet) and then bingeing. Can now excersise again, had to take a break after surgery. That has helped me get back on the right track. I also decided not to have such a strict eating plan. I have introduced a bit more fat and some healthy carbs (whole grains, starchy veggies, beans). I 'm on my third day, so far so good. My only issue has been eating too many nuts and too much cheese. Cut back on that yesterday and the scale moved.

Love to hear these NSVs!. I think it's easy to get focused on that number on the scale which can lead to discouragement. I am struggleing to get back on track after some regain, going for 3 good days in a row. Hopefully some NSV's to come soon!

Unrealistic Weight Goal ??
vlp1968 replied to pink dahlia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the others that your facilitator was way out of line. However, I personally think you may look a little too thin at 125 given your height. Like someone else said, 125 may look different on you now. You may find another 10 pounds or so goes a long way in keeping body parts like your face from looking as saggy and wrinkly. That being said, I wouldn't worry about it now. You have your whole journey ahead of you. Good luck and keep up the great work! You had an awsome first month! -
I agree- alchohol in moderation is ok. Just be aware of the calories in the drinks and I know for me it can give me the munchies and with a buzz I'm more likely to cave to the cravings.

I Want To Eat Cereal!!!
vlp1968 replied to spoiledbratt97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Choose a 100% whole grain cereal such as shredded wheat, grapenuts. The Kashi cereals are pretty much whole grain I think. I agree- watch the milk. It will turn it into a slider and milk has a lot of calories. I would try it with yougurt. My dad eats greek yougurt and cereal almost every morning. -
Experienced Bandsters 70+lbs- How Did You Do It?
vlp1968 replied to Fabulous Sasha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like I should clarify this with the fact I have gained 30 pounds from my lowest weight. I was a little too thin so my goal is to loose 20 of it. I am deffinately struggling with maintainance. I lost 107 pounds in 10 months. I worked out 5 days a week- 4 are with a trainer doing weights. I started off slow- just walking slowly for 20 min. on the treadmill. I gradually worked up to jogging for 1/2 hour or walking briskly on an incline for 45 min. My diet was very low carb/low fat/ high protien. I was very regimented in what I ate. A protien shake for Breakfast, lean meat and veggies for lunch and dinner. I snack on nuts and cheese in limited quantities. I didn't allow myself any treats during the 10 months, or for a few months after that. Well, that's my story. Good luck! -
How Often Do People Weigh Themselves?
vlp1968 replied to Gizmo29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was initially loosing, I weighed myself once a week and recorded it. When I started maintainance I starting weighing myself every day, with idea of staying within a 2-3 pound range. Well, I have had some regain, I'm about 20 pounds heavier than I want to be. I continue to weigh everyday, at this point it's become such a habit I can't help myself. I'm on a 2nd good day in a row. I want to loose ten before I visit a fried in Feb. -
I agee Kashi's are good. Any cereal that is mostly whole grain is good. Don't be fooled by ads like the ones for kellogs saying they are made with whole grain. It's a very small amount. Stay way from the "kiddie" sweetened cereal. Grape nuts, cheerios, shredded wheat are all good choices.

What is the matter with me? I had 2 great days. Then I go and buy icecream sandwiches because they are buy one get one free. what an excuse. Anyway, not even sure how many I've eaten. Plus I drank some wine. What the hell??? I lost over 100 pounds and have gained back about 30 in the last 6 months. I can't seem to put more than 2 good days together. Can't workout yet because I just had a boob job. Any advice?
-
Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I am feeling very motivated today. Going to eat high protien/low carb/ low fat. Just like I did when I originally lost the weight. I am visiting a friend in Al. in about a month. Would love to loose 10 pounds, I think it's doable. It will include the initial weight loss that always happens when I start eating right again.

I have had a hard time since a trip to Europe the beggining of Oct. Then of course there was thanksgiving, christmas, new years. I have put on 30 pounds from my lowest weight. I was told by a few people I lost a little too much weight. I have going to loose 20 and see how I look and if my jeans fit. I can't workout right now because I just had a boob job 12/21. I had my trainer put me back in the schedule 1/10. I hope the doc. okays that. It will be 3 weeks. Yesterday and today have been great eating wise. I have broken up my daily food into 6 mini meals. I think this will work well for me. I also started journaling again. Let's hope my motivation continues. I think I'll be in a good spot if I can just put 3-4 good days together. I never want to be fat again! Thanks for listening.

Any Bi-polar (or Other Mental Illness) Lap Banders?
vlp1968 replied to tabithainbremerton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was diagnosed with bipolar at the age of 26 or so. Have had 3 major manic episodes, 2 of which landed me in the hospital. Escaped the hospital by the skin of my teeth the third time. I've had my ups and downs since then. Been doing great for about 3 years now, stable on meds. I too had to meet with a psychiatrist before surgery and was completely honest. She talked a lot about addiction transfer (I have other addictions besides food). I was successful loosing all my excess weight in about 10 months. 30 pounds has crept back on. I plan to loose 20 of it, I got just a little to thin, or so people tell me. As long as I loose enough to get back into my jeans I'll be happy. -
Are you excersising? It's a huge piece of the puzzle. If your not, I highly reccomend you start. Start out slow and gradually increase your duation/intensity. If you are working out, try changing up what your doing. Good luck!

Has Anyone Gone Back To Preop Diet To Get Back On Track?
vlp1968 replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried going back to liquids to help get back on track. Some tries have been more successfull then others. I have been like a rollercoaster since I lost all the excess weight about a year ago. At this point I am 20 pounds above my target. I think it's worth a try for sure. Good luck! -
The post op diet is for healing. Try your best to stick to doctor's orders. I know it's hard, but you can do it!
