Getting Scared and a little Sad
MissMelissa replied to MissMelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess it's just freaking my out because I hear all these people talking about not being able to eat different thing and getting full on half a cup of food. The weight I have lost has been from dieting aka weight watchers. I'm just fearful of never reaching restriction. -
Getting Scared and a little Sad
MissMelissa replied to MissMelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of that weight loss is pre-op. -
I think it’s the band because my stomach growls all the time even when I know I’m not hungry at all. I have heard other people talk about the growling and just say it’s a side effect of the band you have to live with and is well worth it. Not sure about the bloating thou never had any.

I was banded 1/26/2010. I think after surgery I had restriction for about 2 weeks. Since then I have not really had any restriction and don't have a problem eating any foods at all. I have been doing weight watchers to try and stay on track but I'm just so sick of doing it. I get a fill on Monday and I'm hoping SO much that maybe this will help. I got banded for the purpose of not having to be counting points all day and feeling hungry now stop. Is the way I'm feeling now banster Hell? I hope so. I'm starting to get scared that this is not going to work. Will things be a lot different once I get my fills? Is it totally normal that I don't have restriction right now?

Why does it happen???
MissMelissa replied to tryingtofindme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn’t be vomiting. If you are you need to contact your doctor. More than likely they need to take smaller bites and chew chew chew. Also DON'T over eat. These are all things that cause vomiting. Also if you feel stuck don't keep eating. Walk it off till you feel better then finish. -
Whenever I'm craving something big like that I tell myself…. Go get something healthy and if your still hungry then we will go get it. Works every time. If you really really do want something I thinks it's ok to indulge a little. Just eat slow and only half and make yourself wait 30mins before you even think about eating the other half.

I was wanted to see what others thought about owning a scale. I just got banded on 1/26/2010. When I was moving last year my scale was broken and I never went out and got a new one ( I was prego and really hated scales). When I did own a scale and I was dieting I would weight myself like 3 times a day or every time I went into the bathroom…. lol. Sometimes it could really be discouraging and sometimes a little motivating. Should I buy a new scale or just see my weight whenever I go to the doctors? Banded 1/26/2010

Well I went out and got a scale the day that I posted this and have not been happy with it. I think my doctor’s scale is like 5 pounds lighter than mine. In fact I’m pretty sure. I have been perfect on my post op diet and have only lost like a pound. :sifone:

OH. Maybe I should put it in the basement. That way I'm not always walking by it and wanting to look.

If only it was that easy for me. I have no self control.

Feeling like someone is standing on my chest
MissMelissa replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep this is normal. They didn't give you one of those things you breath into to practice your breaths. I have no clue what the name of it is but you have to practice keep the little ball between the lines. It is suppose to help. Banded 1/26/2010 -
HAHAHA…. That’s too funny I use to make my partner hide the scale too. I have no idea how much weight I have lost. I go to the doctors on Friday so I'm sure I'll find out then .It is actually the first time I can ever remember looking forward to be weighed at the doctor's office.

had lap band and surprise hernia repair
MissMelissa replied to lisaky71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. It seems like my recovery has been the same as everyone else. I did feel as thou I was bruised (like punched in the center of my chest) but I didn’t now know if that was from the banding surgery or the hernia surgery. Banded 1/26/2010 -
When I woke from surgery I had a sharp pain in my should. In fact it was the first pain I even noticed. When I told my nurse about the pain she reached over and touch exactly the spot I was talking about without me even showing her what area I was talking about…. So it must be somewhat common. She told me it is gas and I will have pains like that over the next few weeks…. Which I do have sometimes in that some spot from time to time. I'm not sure if this really helps though because you seems to be like 6-8 weeks post op and I would think the gas would be out of you by now. Banded 1/26/2010

I know you not suppose to drink an hour before and an hour after you eat….. But what if it’s the end of the night and you know you’re not going to eat anymore. Can you go ahead and have a drink after? Banded 1/26/2010

Why I'm considering a lawsuit...
MissMelissa replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not read anywhere that this is a cure all. In fact I have been told you have to work with your doctors constituently and keep up your fills. It usually takes 5-6 fills to find your sweet spot. If you didn’t have the money to maintain this maybe you should have thought about that before having the surgery. Also if you are a snacker and someone that has no control this is NOT a tool for you. I was told from the get go that if you want you can get around the band by eating candy and chips and drinking liquids when you’re not supposed to…. everything will just slide thru. Eat only three small meals a day Eat slowly and chew thoroughly (15-20 times a bite) Stop eating as soon as you feel full Do not drink while you are eating or an hour before or after Do not eat between meals Eat only good quality food Avoid fibrous food Drink enough fluids during the day Drink only low-calorie fluids Exercise at least 30 minutes a day Sorry if this came off rude but I’m just trying to be straight with you. -
Every doctor is different. My doctor had me on 3 days of liquids then a week and a half of munchies. Then back to normal till my first fill. Banded 1/26/2010

I’m a newbie at this… I know I just had my surgery but I already feel tons of restriction. When I started on my soft foods today I could only eat like half a cup and I’m stuffed for hours. Is this going to go away because I don’t have a fill yet? Do some people never need a fill maybe, or could my stomach still be swollen from surgery?
-
I was wondering if I drink a protein shake to replace a meal do I still have to wait an hour before and after to drink again.
-
Do people always need a fill?

Surgery date set for January 26th!!!!!
MissMelissa replied to shannie83301's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went great yesterday. I didn’t have any nausea thank god. My surgery was at noon and I got out around 5:30pm. I was in some pain but it wasn’t too bad. I think the hardest part was feeling like your stomach was moved and I had this odd back pain. It was just this odd feeling that took me all night to shake but has gone away now. I was hungry last night but that may have just been because everyone was eating taco bell… lol. I had like 3 popsicles and that seem to do the trick. The doctor told me that I had a bad hiatal hernia especially for my age (24) which he fixed. Which I’m so happy about because I have been on heartburn meds since I was 19 and now I shouldn’t have heartburn anymore! Yay!!! Hope everything goes great for you today meandtheboys. **can’t wait to hear more from everyone and how you all are doing. Please keep posting stuff over the next few weeks. I love reading how everyone is doing and it’s nice to have people going thru the same stuff as you. GOOD LUCK! -

MissMelissa replied to shannie83301's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm already to go back for surgery. The doctor said he would be back in an hour to take me back. I think I was more nervous about the pregnacy test they gave me. I didn't really follow the pre-op diet except for giving up pop and some how I was down 6lbs when they checked my weight. I hope everyone else is doing good. I'm thinking about you all. Good luck.
