Questioning If I Can Do This
JoiaRox replied to Andrew0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on your insurance, really - we can't answer that. I'd offer, though, that if you're having problems now, you're going to have problems with the sleeve. Are you seeing a therapist? Sounds like you could use some counseling regarding your food addiction...just my helpful hint! -
I just did a blog post about this! http://singinglapbander.blogspot.com/2013/06/goals.html

Are you allowed yogurt yet? Everyone varies, but I was able to satisfy the "hunger" with Greek yogurt and thicker protein shakes (blend 'em up with ice and milk!) until I was allowed to progress to soft foods.
-
I loved mine when I made it - used only 1 scoop of Unjury Chocolate Splendor, though, in some SF chocolate pudding mix.
-
Holy CRAP - I'm glad I don't have her doctor! Transitioned to soft foods yesterday...at 4 weeks out.

:::waves to Molly::: Hi!! I had my first Protein bar yesterday (4 weeks out), cooked veggies today (one of those "Just for One" Jolly Green Giant things - carrots & broccoli) and am allowed up to 1T/day of Peanut Butter now (although I use PB2 in my shakes in powdered form). Won't be trying the other items until I'm 6 weeks out and transitioning to regular diet!

I had no drain, nor did my doctor ever discuss it...it wasn't until I got on this forum that I heard about these things! Ew! I had a one-night stay in the hospital (planned in advance) and a speedy recovery. I'm 29 days post-op today, have been back at work for 3 weeks and am doing just fine!

My recommendations (and I'm not a nutritionist): Up your Protein to 70g/day minimum - try to exceed that! Drink 64oz water/day. Minimize carbs (my doc recommends no more than 50g/day for best weight loss) Don't drink any beverages that contain calories - don't drink your nutrition! The one exception is Protein shakes. If you still need them to get to your daily minimum, do it. Strive to get your nutrition from solid foods, though, as the sleeve works best when you aren't "sliding" things through your sleeve. If you start with those four, the scale should move and your overall health will improve! Focusing on those as your goals shouldn't allow you to overeat on calories - essentially, it's more about the macronutrients (protein, carbs) that you put into your body rather than the calorie count. I would also recommend that you take a Multivitamin of some sort, at the very least, to ensure that you're getting everything you need.

Loved it on purees - I used Fat Free refried beans and shredded cheddar melted into them...sometimes melted a Laughing Cow cheese in there! Deeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!

I had this problem about 10 days out of surgery - switched to a different brand (now using Opurity) and all is well. I did some research and found that many people have nausea problems with Bariatric Advantage.
-
At 10 days out, I was on full liquids - that included any "cream of..." soups, as mentioned above - just had to be sure to strain any chunks out! Anything that required chewing was still a "no no" back then.

2 days post-op! When will this pain subside
JoiaRox replied to shannyd4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're only 2 days out from major surgery - of COURSE you're in pain, and it's normal! Keep listening to your body - sleeping, walking around & sipping liquids are your only jobs for now! -
has any one else not had success ? :(
JoiaRox replied to cmt49829's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's where I think counseling will come in handy - clearly, there's more going on in your head/heart than can be controlled with a weight loss tool like the sleeve. You've got to get to the root of THAT to be successful! -

I'd recommend two things - go see a nutritionist and go get counseling. Sounds like your head isn't in this game. If you were eating protein first, making good food choices, etc., you would NOT be gaining. What's going on? -
Hell, try being stalled Weeks 2-4 post-op. My scale FINALLY went down a smidge today, but we'll have to wait and see if that trend continues!
-
I'd agree - we should be consuming 64oz of water per day, with or without the sleeve - and that's a minimum! Also, my NUT has me on a minimum of 70g of protein per day...most days I exceed that. If you're following the recommendations you were given, try exceeding them and see what happens!
-
I finally went down this morning (4 weeks post-op today) after a few weeks of slight movement. Keep doing what you're supposed to - the weight WILL come off once your body has adjusted! You'll continue to go through cycles of stall, lose, stall, lose for the entire process...don't get impatient now!
-
Post-op I've continued to track my caloric intake with MyFitnessPal, primarily because I need to track my Protein so that I can ensure I'm meeting the 70g/day minimum my NUT set for me. I'm still giggling each night when I "complete" the day's entry - MFP tells me each night: *Based on your total calories consumed for today, you are eating too few calories. Not only is it difficult to receive adequate nutrition at these calorie levels, but you could also be putting your body into starvation mode. Starvation mode lowers your metabolism and makes weight loss more difficult. We suggest increasing your calorie consumption to 1200 calories per day minimum. Sorry MFP - it's just gonna have to be this way for awhile! I giggle because I don't think I'd ever seen this warning prior to having my sleeve! At least, not consistently each day!
-
I track every morsel that goes into my mouth and only eat when hungry. I'm getting, at minimum, 70 grams of protein per day, 64oz fluid and all of my vitamins. I keep an eye on carbs/calories, but really only for observation purposes. I don't "try" to eat up to anything other than my requirements...just turns out that way! I have no clue how people are only getting a few hundred calories AND meeting requirements.
-
During the puree stage, my doctor said that I can have anything that doesn't require chewing. So, his answer would be no. I do know that there are others on this thread whose doctors skip the pureed stage altogether, though, as long as patients chew, chew, chew!
-
Heck, I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow and I average 1,200 calories a day. My PA and NUT are just fine with that, as long as I meet my protein and fluid goals.
-
Can I just say? I'm totally not thrilled with your husband's lack of support. What happened to wedding vows? Support? Love?

New DM onset - a1c is 7.8 - please help

Honestly, whether or not to go on medication is at the discretion of your doctor. Your logic is absolutely sound on this, but your doctor may have a different opinion.
